QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Me too. Picky eaters. Yeah, I still like everything mentioned. But then, there's spaghettios (which I have learned to at least tolerate if you add ground beef to 'em and LOTS of parmasean cheese). Never heard of galumpki, but I bet I'd eat it.
-
It's early still but so far I love everything you guys have mentioned. I can't think of anything that I hate. Well, except for Spaghettios. Blech!!

It's been several weeks now since I let out a good WOOOOOOOOO!!!! That felt real good.

I liked Hitchhikers Guide. I hadn't read the book and was kinda dragged along with my family to see the movie. I went into it totally not knowing what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. It was very weird and certainly not for eveyone's taste. As for David Lynch movies....yuck. Eraserhead was the most boring movie I've ever seen. Way over my head, I guess.

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) I'm a big fan of them. I have every tape of theirs. I also like They Might Be Giants, the BeeGees, Jethro Tull and yes.. I like Kelly Clarkson. My kids turned me on to TMBG. They're awesome. My kids have seen 'em live several times and even met them. They can be both humorous and, at least I think, musically very interesting.

cool link: QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Wow BigEd!!! http://www.espdisk.com/esp1037.html Pretty bad from what I can hear!!! Even the reviews on Amazon complain about people saying these guys couldn't play! Thank you for this one! Hey, thanks for the link. It was cool to hear again. I sold that record on eBay several years ago to a guy who worked for a company that was planning to reissue the album on cd. He wanted a nice copy for duplicating the original record jacket. Though it hurts now that I sold most of my records it's kinda cool to know that they're all over the world being enjoyed by people who really love 'em as much as I did or in that particular case was certainly put to good use. I sold a copy of Bubble Puppy's "Hot Smoke and Sasafrass (cool link: http://www.paperrad.org/animations/bubble.html ) to a guy from Bubble Puppy's daughter. Anyway, just remembered possibly the worst record of all-time: "Paralyzed" by The Legendary Stardust Cowboy (a must-own!).

QUOTE(juddling @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) My friends in college used to kid me about this all the time but i was and still am a big Huey Lewis and the News fan and Rick Springfield fan. I've got all the albums and seem both in concert a few times each. I've never understood why Huey Lewis and the News often get a bad rap. All they did was churn out some really big hits in the early 80's when for my taste there was a lot of bad music. Just for the record, Huey Lewis was born on the same day (July 5, 1950) as myself. Yeah, I know......

Another bad music great: http://home.att.net/~bubblegumusic/ltgarcia.htm Lt. Garcia's Magic Music Box, a latin-bubblegum music band. I bought this for about a buck many years ago and couldn't even play the whole thing. It's that bad. I probably still have it.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) I've never understood the "guilty pleasure" thing. If you like something, why should you ever have to feel "guilty" about it? If it's good to you, then that is all that is needed. Stuff like The Monkees is great music. They were HUGE for a reason, because they turned out great Pop tunes. I should have it in my "best songs" list, but "Pleasent Valley Sunday" is pure brilliance, easily one of the greatest songs ever. Bands like Journey had talent. The songs have aged poorly (almost as poorly as Styx), but there is a ton of talent there, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. You want "bad music"? I've got a ton. It's truely BAD music. Poorly played, poorly written, just downright BAD. THAT stuff I love. A band called "Luv Junkiez" I have a demo of, easily the worst band I have ever heard! Scott Stapp, he's one that can go into the truely BAD stuff. The music behind him might be decent, but his vocals are just plain terrible. Too forced. But I have been enjoying what I have heard from that solo CD, just because it makes me laugh pretty damn hard. Kid, please tell me that you're familiar with The Godz ("Contact High" on ESP lable)? If not, you have to check out this album. There have been a couple of other bands called The Godz but these guys were the first. I'm quite sure none of them really knew how to play an instrument. This album is a classic.

Kim Fowley created some really great bad records. Outrageous is a GREAT bad album and includes "Animal Man", "Chinese Water Torture", "Inner Space Discovery", "Up: Up/Caught in the Middle/Down" and my favorite "Barefoot Country Boy". All of Kim's albums are bad but this is the best/worst. The backing musicians included a couple members of Three Dog Night (before they made it big) and Mars Bonfire who penned "Born To Be Wild". Another album worth checking out was Fowley's earlier Love Is Alive And Well, a flower power relic. One track called "Super Flower" is merely Fowley "interviewing" a group of Sunset Strip teenieboppers. It's hilarious. Best song is "Reincarnation" which shoulda been a garage rock hit. Yet another Fowley album worth checking out is International Heroes from Fowley's glam rock phase. The cover is a shot of Fowley looking really scary wearing lipstick. Internatiional Heroes Lyrics: (kim fowley/kerry scott) Bobby and Sue still go to school Falling asleep and it ain't too cool Tom and jane stuck in the rain At every concert when the bus leaves early We're just wasting time Wondering what we'll find when it's all over I think I'll cut my hair off and start brand new again Why bother being different? we're all the same Hey friend it's gotta end I don't care what you wear, it's what you are that makes you a star International heroes, you got the teenage blues Change has gotta come soon or else we're gonna lose The noise I hear year after year ain't done nothin' but become unclear Hey everybody, what have we got? old clothes and records starting to rot Don't throw them away Open yourselves to the sounds of the future International heroes, you got the teenage blues Change has gotta come soon or else we're gonna lose International heroes, you got the teenage blues Change has gotta come soon or else we're gonna lose... lose... lose... lose International heroes, you got the teenage blues Change has gotta come soon or else we're gonna lose International heroes, you got the teenage blues Change has gotta come soon or else we're gonna lose

Stan Berenstain - who, along with his wife, Jan - created the Berenstain Bears, passed away. I dug the Berenstain Bears and read many of those books to my kids when they were little. They loved them. My condolences to Mama Bear.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) somebody to look for, thanks. Sure. I spelled his name wrong though. It's Pharoah Sanders. I would suggest his Jewels For Thought lp. http://www.dustygroove.com/prip/0/5/19350i.htm

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) honestly, i agree with you... while i believe miles davis deserves every bit of accolade he gets (thou does anyone else feel coltraine was better? i mean listening to coltraine/davis collaborations i can't help but feel that coltraine somewhat blows him outta the water) i'm just under the impression that we wouldn't induct jim thorpe into the basketball hall of fame just because he had an impact on all athletes. On the other hand, they should get some good artists in there to off set some of the crap they've put in. Pecisely. I couldn't agree more and about Coltrane too. Just for the record I enjoy Pharao Sanders even more.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Two words: b****es Brew. I was waiting for someone to mention that. He's still a jazz artist and has no place in the rock and roll hof, just my opinion.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Seriously, you're wrong. And I'm not a Miles Davis fan at all. Seriously, I think I'm right. There's no disputing Miles Davis belongs in a Hall of Fame but this is the ROCK and ROLL hall of fame. He doesn't belong there. Rod Argent of the Zombies and Argent has said he was a big Miles fan (as I'm sure were many other Rock artists) and that he was influenced by his music but come on, the line has to be drawn somewhere. Is John Coltrane going to be in the Rock hof too? Beethoven? Bach? I just think Miles Davis as a ROCK hof'er is too much a stretch.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) REDUCED to this? It's only the biggest stage on the planet in terms of viewership. I mean reduced to this in terms of what it means to be The Rolling Stones. Years and years ago, they'd have scoffed at doing something like a football halftime show. Going to see the Stones many years ago was an event of the so-called counter-culture. Now they're playing the Superbowl. It's just kinda weird. But then, I've always been kinda stuck in the past.
-
I find this weird and kinda sad that the Rolling Stones have been reduced to this. I guess I'm just too old. Could you imagine the Rolling Stones doing this in 1969. What's next? The Copa? What are they gonna perform? Street Fighting Man...Gimme Shelter?

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) A simple sign of what a joke it is: Rush is not in the Hall. Maybe they'll make it to the Canadian wing of the Rock and Roll hall....maybe.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) i'm not familiar with the R&R hall of fame selections, i mean, odessey and oracle is one of my favorite albums of all time, i just wasn't sure what consistency there was in the selections. personally, i think the whole concept is stupid. One of my favorite songs is I want Her she wants me... beautiful Yeah, that's a great song, as is This Will Be Our Year. What a great album, not a bum cut. Best of the Zombies: She's Not There Tell Her No The Kind of Girl Leave Me Be Don't Cry For Me Whenever You're Ready Indication I Love You (pretty big cover hit for a group called People) You Make Me Feel So Good (covered by the Buckinghams) Time Of The Season Funny thing about the Zombies and the success of Oddessy & Oracle. That album came out in either late '68 or in '69 and the Zombies had broken up in '67.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) do you think the zombies had enough material to get in? As a huge Zombies fan, yeah I do, but I'm admittedly predjudiced. They certainly had much more strong material than Percy Sledge and he's in based on one remarkable performance.

QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Miles Davis had a huge influence on all musical genres, rock and roll being one of them, and that's why he's being inducted. It's a stretch, yeah, but lots of people and groups are in the Hall and they aren't traditional rock and roll artists as most people would describe them. You have Buffalo Springfield in there, they were very short lived but were an enormous influence for the entire next generation of musicians. So it's an imperfect selection process. So you're saying Miles Davis had a huge influence on country music? Seriously, whatever influence he may have had on rock and roll was slight and not hall of fame worthy. It's ridiculous when true rock legends are being ignored and Miles Davis is in. Is Leon Russell in? Dr. John? Carol King? The Mothers of Invention?
-
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is so stupid it makes me sick What a load of crap. I liked Blondie a lot and owned all their albums but do they deserve this before the Ventures, J. Geils Band, The Cars, Turtles, Zombies? One could go on and on. Miles Davis as great as he was has very very little to do with Rock and Roll.

Congrats! The Sox are in Texas pounding the Rangers silly that day.

Sorry to hear this, but your uncle sure went out stylish.

How to make the best grilled cheese sandwhich ever
BigEdWalsh replied to sox4lifeinPA's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) consume yummy, buttery, cheesy grilled sandwhich. Sounds good and it's making me want one real bad! I occasionally make a grilled cheese quartet, using 4 different cheeses. Usually cheddar, swiss, cream cheese and pepperjack. It's pretty decadent.
