  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) So are you saying that you know for a fact that he didn't talk to his players about it before he went to the press? For that matter directly after? How about just to Frank? If you don't know for a fact then it is an assumption. I think his point is why tell the media this stuff (about attitude problems) at all..? Jackie just slap me if I'm assuming wrong.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) I have done that and it has gotten me no where. Must have missed that post or PM... In any event.. just let me know in the future and I'll make it right.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) If that is what you took from his comments then I guess so. I didn't see anything that was very private, JMO. His main job is to win and they are winning, so I guess your right. Calling an employee a "bad attitude" is something we would never know about... so yea.. I think it's personal and private. Like Jim said, and you agreed with, we don't know what goes on in the clubhouse.. "bad attitude" happens in the clubhouse.. we would never know about it unless someone blabed about it..
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Like I stated before, it is the way you post. How about in the future if you intrepret something as "rude" or whatever you feel it is, you inquire about it.. that way I can set things straight before someone gets bent out of shape and the name calling begins..
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) No, I don't believe part of being the boss is to be the bigger person. I think he is setting an example and taking a leadership role. He will not stand for a selfish type of attitude. He wants to play team baseball and could care less about individual statistics. That is a big stance to take and a big part of being a leader. It is his team. The team will play the way he wants. The attitude will be of team baseball. There is a lot of leadership in that. And apparently advertising private employee/employer issues is part of his forte also.. Whatever works to win I guess.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) However you want to look at it. It's unfortunate you choose to look at it negaitvely rather than take it for what it is.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) You do both. It is in the way you post. All in the assumption I guess.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) You don't want a PC Frank, but you want a PC Ozzie? Just a question because I am not sure where you stand on that issue. Is not part of being the boss being a bigger person..? Knowing when to keep a lid on clubhouse issues...?? I guess I do hold Ozzie in a different light. He should set the example. He's the manager.. he should be the leader.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) Then your other post towards me really had no point. I guess it was just an argumentative statement just to be argumentative. No.. I'm asking you a genuine question. I see your point, though I don't agree with it that Frank was being sarcastic in response to being the full time DH.. so let's remove that comment.. how is what Frank said about DH'ing THIS year justification for Ozzie running his mouth about last year...?? That's my beef with him. I don't even care about the "I make the line-up comment". I expect him to remind everyone every chance he gets that he's the "boss".
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) You right. You don't call names. You just insinuate things. I really don't want to get into it because it is the way you post and have always posted. That will not change and you don't care how you come across. So, really what is the point in getting into it. SSI.. as in the past.. if I want to call someone a name I just do it. No incinuating anything.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) How often do I have to say that both people were wrong in this instance? BOTH WERE WRONG! I am not taking sides. You are. Yea.. I am. Was that ever in question..? How is Frank in the "wrong" for the comments Ozzie chose to say about him from last year....? Did Frank make some comments about last year..?
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Did you not read the whole thing? Not just sad, but arrogant as well. You could have agreed to disagree with me as well. It seemed as though both of us kept on going. I am disagreeing with you.. I refrained from calling your names though.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Jim I never thought what Ozzie said would have a bad effect on the team's performance. I think he heard somethign that he perceived as a selfish statement. I think that if he lets selfish attitudes get out of control then it could lead to a detrimental outcome. I am not sure if you were talking about me or if I was included in this expert group or not. Just trying to clarify what I meant. How does one have anything to do with the other...? Ozzie couldn't have just said "Frank doesn't make the line-up" and be done with it...? Rather he choose to talk s*** from last year.. which ironically.. is completely opposite to the things he said about Frank last year.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I think my apology was sarcastic. I should have put that in green I suppose, but somethings are just blatantly obvious. Steff, you have a way about you. I don't know if it is arrogance or what exactly. I am not fighting with you or arguing with you, just making comments as to why I disagree with you. It is a message board and all I am doing is making comments on why I disagree with your opinion. If you think what Frank said is better than saying something team oriented then I think that is sad. JMO. I know it was sarcasm.. rather than just agreeing to disagree you become combative and sarcastic to others opinions.. it's your way. No big deal. Maybe if you had read the quote I would be more receptive to you responses. Now I'm "sad"... sigh.. typical.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Oh yeah. I am so sorry. That really makes it so much better. Where should Carl play? the outfield? I read both quotes and they sound selfish when put together. I think neither Ozzie or Frank are right in this instance. They both need to learn how to communicate in the media or shut up. You would think that a veteran player would know a better way to word things. You would also think a former MLB player and now manager would have better things to do than run to the media to discuss certain things. However, both don't know better and we end up with this ridiculous sideshow situation. Both of them, along with the media overblowing it, make the White Sox look ridiculous. I don't know what you're apologizing to me for.. And I don't care what makes anything seem better to you. My comments are MY OPINION. Obviously you don't agree with it.. I suppose you could just agree to disagree..

    Friday night lights..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Donna, TX high school just suspended a bunch of players for a freshman initiation that involved latex gloves and bending over. The coach tried to cover it up. When the School Board met to discuss firing him (duh), more people where there to voice their support. After all, they made the playoffs last year. :headshake They claimed the School Board was not showing support for the coach :headshake Football coaches are recruited and some of them also teach an abreviated schedule with almost unlimited comp time. As far as three sport athletes, it's the football coaches that drive much of this. They are under intense scrutiny to win games. They are interviewed a couple times a week, and more people can name the HS football coach than the principal. So they never miss an edge. Somehow teaching football year round to the team and supervising voluntary weight sessions, isn't actually practicing. Wow.. just wow. But like you and TRU said.. it's a way of life. I guess if I lived there or saw it first hand I wouldn't be so shocked by it. Do you guys have any idea what the % of HS players that go on to the pros is..?

    Friday night lights..

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) All i want to say about the story of Friday Night Lights is that it is awesome. I read the book many years before the movie came out, and the book is flat-out awesome. Steff, i know you probly won't wanna waste time reading the book now, but the book does the team and town more justice than the movie does. The movie is a bit juiced up. But overall the story is a great one IMO, and yes it's true. HS football is a HUGE deal in Texas. To anyone who saw the movie and didn't appreciate it fully...i recommend the book if you have time. I probably will now that you mentioned the differences. I didn't dislike the story.. I just really, really hated all the violence.
  18. I suppose we could go round and round about this... :rolly IMO it wasn't selfish and an appropriate answer and one I would have given in response to "Frank.. do you think you can DH every day" - since it wasn't "should you DH everyday?". Maybe you should read the quotes from Frank...??
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Wow, his kid was spilling stories to you huh? Apparently, oral diahrrea is hereditary. I'm not going to defend this.. mainly because it's something we have said in the past when hanging out with him.. but in the context of these comment were funny stories about players and not so much dishing details. At several points in the night Carl, Aaron, and Willie were part of the stories and they were right there with us laughing it up.

    Friday night lights..

One other think I wanted to ask.. do you guys down there hire special coaches for football..? Up here (when I was in HS and we went to state) the football coach was the male PE teacher.. Tex.. my one girlfriends daughter is 3 sport (basketball, vollyeball, and track). Is it different for girls down there?

    Friday night lights..

QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) haha yeah, we have a stadium.. they just put in that new turf stuff last season Wow.. that's pretty cool. You crazy cowboys..
  22. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) About this affecting the team negatively; if the team is really as close-knit as advertised, I don't see this altering their performance level. I see it effecting their respect for their manager level. Every time Ozzie opens his mouth about clubhouse matters is just one more reason not to trust him... anything you might say might make it to the papers. Not good, IMO. I think this team will win in spite of Ozzie. I honestly believe all of their hearts are 150% dedicated to a 100 win season and more than just the division title.. Crap.. I kinda just made a prediction..

    Friday night lights..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) How many regular season games sell out, in advance, in Chicago? Games in our 8,000 seat stadium regularly sell out. The local news will lead with HS Football, ahead of Cowboys, Texans, and any other sports highlights. The local stations will all have cameras at the top half dozen games, the local sports radio station has part time reporters at every area High School game, that's 20-25 games with live updates. McAllen has a population if 125,000 and 3 HS. We aren't nearly as crazy as some of the middle of nowhere towns with small populations. It's crazy fun. I haven't been to HS games with regularity.. but I don't recall on regular season game ever selling out when I was in HS. There was always room for more.. (standing on the sidelines or on the track at each end of the field by the end zones). Is it true that people have season tickets for HS games down there..?
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Now, we hear this again. I have not seen anything from Frank since opening day 2004 that wasn't good. My first thought is Oz wants to stamp his brand on this team so badly, he's willing to trash Frank. I have seen new managers in business try and move out the old employees and bring in "their people". Most of the time I sense uncertainty and a lack of confidence in the new manager's ability to take charge and lead. They see the existing employees as threats. Maybe we are seeing Ozzie's insecurities in all this. Frank played with Oz. Can you imagine Oz delivering a "you have to be able to lay down a sac bunt" and Frank is over there rolling his eyes and mentioning hey Oz, remember when you went 0-4 against Cleveland and twice failed to lay one down? It is not that easy. Even if Frank doesn't say it, Ozzie knows that Frank knows, how Oz really played.
