QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Thx, I'll be back in 2 hours then. Is McGuire there? He's Irish right? Spending St. Patty's in court, gotta love it. Players start in 10 minutes

QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) I agree with your comments about Pellman. However, I think he just said somthing that gives us a clue as to what Selig will say. He said he would recommend to MLB that the Minor league policy is the best because it was implemented without negotiations. Selig is going to blame the union for not allowing MLB to institute the policy they wanted. Both sides are assholes.. but I lean more towards the players being at fault for the sissy drug policy.

LMAO... ISSA referencing using a corked bat as cheating.. Sosa must be pissing his pants!!

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Maybe I misunderstood...is that what they would be doing? I thought they would be the face of 'Don't do roids' via television and so forth. A task force investigating roid usage... sounds to me like they would be responsible for investigating and reporting their findings to congress.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Frank would have to accept that position. They can't just make him do it. I hope he declines it.
-
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) Frank Thomas, along with Shilling, will be sworn in and made a member of an official Congressional Taskforce to investigate Steroid abuse in MLB. This was just reported on ESPNNews by Bob Ley What kind of wedge will this put between them and their teammates?!? Ummm... I don't think I like that. Players should not be put into a position to tattle on other players. An independent pannel should be formed. People with nothing to gain from outing, or hiding, the players using.
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) I was wondering that too, maybe after this second panel is done. I hope so.. I'm starving. Any word on ESPN the players stance if they don't get to them today..? I think this is running a bit longer than they expected. IIRC they end their day at 4pm and it's already almost 2.

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) That would be a distant fourth then, wouldn't it?
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) This Pellman guy is such a MLB lapdog. Agree. He is a complete asshole.

Anyone know if they break for lunch...?? And if so, how long?
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) Well I'm sorry about that. If I was in the same situation, I probably would think the same way. Just to be clear.. I was being sincere in saying I am glad for you.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) If thats the case, those are such a small percentage of what's out there and it wouldn't be much of a problem. BALCO took a while to be discovered..
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Yes I do, I've been playing baseball for 13 years and know some people in high school and college that have a shot at being a pro. No one has used steriods or has ever wanted to, we've talked about this routinely. Maybe we don't because we come from a city with good morals and know it's wrong, I don't know. We look up to these players, but we know what right and wrong is. I'm glad for you. I've seen 3 lives destroyed by roids. One a pro player. It was not pretty.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Ok now the goofball from Penn. wnats to know where the illegal steriods are produced. Where are all of the meth labs? If we knew this, we could stop the problem. Where great sums of money are involved people will find a way to make them. I wish these politcians would think before they talk. I believe he was referring to the medical ones.
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Never thought I'd see the day when the word "googled" would be used in a congressional hearing. I just thought the same thing.
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) I guess what I'm getting at is sure steriods are wrong and shouldn't be used. But it's not like the players are forcing kids to use them. Players shouldn't be blamed for the death of those kids. WT... do you know anyone who wants to, or has the potential to be a profossional ball player..? I've known several and know a few HS and college ones currently.. you would not believe the influence pro players have over them.
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I do agree with Juggernaut mostly. Sure I think steriods shouldn't be around the game, but it's not because of the players that took them. Sure maybe there was an indirect influence, Hu...?? It's not the players fault..? "Maybe" it's an indirect influence...?? Kids wanting to be like pro ball players.. take the drugs pro players take.. but the players are not "directly" responsible...? I apologize if I am misunderstanding, and if so could you please correct me. Thanks.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) "Baseball's new policy is designed to silence the critics and not to solve the problem." Great great observation. I absolutely love Lantos. He was awesome during the tobacco hearings also.
-
Lantos kicks ass!!!!! "you underestimate us.. we're not stupid"
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Probably sitting on his couch watching with a bag of pretzels...which he has proven can also be detrimental to your health. ROTFLMAO!!!
-
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) I disagree. They just asked the parents of the dead children if they believe their kids would be alive today if MLB players had made public statements against steroid abuse when their kids were playing sports. All of them said yes. Try to imagine the impact of those spots day in & day out during every game. Those spots could include %'s of fatalities, suicides, & other characteristics brought up in these hearings. That data being associated with iconic players of heroic stature would have a definite impact on high school players. Now try to imagine players in the game getting caught at the same time these ads are airing daily. PR death. GMAFB... they already know roids are bad and wrong. No need to say don't do them... slap the s*** out of the players doing them.. make them an example.. and scare the s*** out of the kids that want to be ball players by letting them know that if they do them they will NOT make it into professional sports.

Uh oh.. Texas Rep Marchant is talking now... wonder if Bush is watching this..

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Dr Volkow's voice is driving me insane. I feel like Kramer when the Entertainment Tonight lady comes on. Agree.. but she is making some great points.
