  1. OMG Murcie.. was that not hilarious?!?! I was on the line calling those morons to complain when he came back on. I was freaking out!!
  2. No way!! When did you hear about this...???
  3. Thank you, too. My dad said he did not see it but one of the other guys was about a half mile back and said while he couldn't see exactly what happened, that he heard the sound of the metal crushing and the truck hitting the ground. A half mile back... He got by it, but I guess they closed 55 down.
  4. Everyone accounted for... whew!
  5. Thanks eye.. My dad works from the Joliet facility off route 30, and Jim's son in Bollingbrook.. both travel the area frequently.
  6. My dad and Jim's son both drive for Bekins - and considering the area of this accident am increasingly concerned that I can't get ahold of them.... I've heard more horror stories than I care to remember.
  7. Not to defend, cause some truckers are assholes.. but sometimes they just can't help it. If someone slams on the brakes in front of them.. or they see something stopped ahead - remember they are 8 feet higher off the ground than you and can see a mile ahead - they have no choice but to take the best route to avoid an accident. Sometimes cutting you off is the better choice versus slamming into the car in front of him....
  8. On the way home last night right before 83 on 55 south there was a car that had lost control and went head on into a poll off the right side of the road... how they didn't take along a few cars with them I can't understand - there were skid marks all the way from the left lane. And then this morning at the corner of Indian Boundry and County Line Road some moron appeared to have missed the turn and drove into the ditch. He was ok.. standing out there on his cell phone looking like an idiot. It just amazes me the wrecklessness (is that a word..?) of some people.. I hope the others are OK. It'll be interesting to see what led to this. People in cars just don't understand that a TT going 60 mph is a lethal weapon.
  9. TARENTUM, Pa. - A man was charged with robbing two banks less than one day after getting out of prison for a botched 2001 convenience store robbery in which he held a can of ravioli under his shirt to simulate a gun, police said. Thomas Glenn Rokosky, 28, was arrested Tuesday morning a few minutes after someone robbed the First Commonwealth Bank in Tarentum, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Police said an alarm system sent a distress call directly to a dispatch center and helped them quickly locate Rokosky, of Tarentum, and his vehicle, which matched witness descriptions. Police said he also had a note demanding money from a teller. Simple arithmetic led police to charge Rokosky with another robbery the day before. Rokosky got out of prison on Monday and had just $12 when he was released, officials at the State Correctional Institution-Cresson told police. When he was arrested, Rokosky was carrying nearly $4,300, police said. The person who robbed the Tarentum bank got away with $2,500. Investigators then found out that another First Commonwealth Bank branch was robbed Monday afternoon in Johnstown, not far from the prison. Rokosky told police about the Johnstown robbery when they asked about it, saying that he paid a cab driver $100 to turn off his meter and drive him to Tarentum, about 65 miles away. Rokosky was supposed to meet with his parole officer Monday but "blew him off," Tarentum police chief Bill Vakulick said. Rokosky was still in jail Wednesday. Police say he has a criminal record dating to 1998, including four robberies or attempts in the Tarentum area that he pleaded guilty to in 2002. In one attempt, Rokosky threatened an unwitting clerk at a corner store in Natrona with a ravioli can. Rokosky ran away when the clerk was too afraid to open a cash register drawer.
  10. BERLIN (Reuters) - A hamster called "Teddy" sparked a police rescue mission after he climbed inside a computer printer and got stuck because he was too fat to get out again, authorities said Wednesday. "Contrary to his normal habits, Teddy climbed inside a PC printer and was unable to get out because of his corpulence," police in the northern city of Flensburg said in a statement, adding that they initially thought it was an April Fool's joke. Luckily for Teddy, a neighbor of his owner managed to free the hamster so the arriving police officer was spared the task. "After all the commotion, the animal was already peacefully asleep again in his cage, having escaped with nothing but a few bruises," said the statement.
  11. PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Police in Cambodia have been accused of extracting confessions from two teenagers by force-feeding them bananas until they felt sick. Koh Santopheap newspaper said the pair were subjected to the unorthodox interrogation after being arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of stealing five bags of soap powder from a car parked in the impoverished southeast Asian nation's capital. However, top Cambodian policeman Yim Simony denied any official wrong doing. "They were hungry and annoyed and they refused to answer our questions," he told Thursday's edition of the Cambodia Daily. "But after they ate the bananas, they answered the questions." :banghead
  12. :headshake LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California man has pleaded guilty to residential burglary after he set up a meeting with a woman on a rape fantasy Internet chat page, but instead broke into a different woman's apartment. Michael Todd Howard, 35, pleaded guilty in a court in San Diego on Tuesday in return for an expected sentence of one year in jail and probation, prosecutors said. According to court documents, last September, Howard broke into the home of a woman with whom he thought he had set up an encounter on what was described as a "rape fantasy" chat site. After he entered the wrong apartment, he hit and struggled with the 25-year-old woman inside, who told law enforcement officials she thought she was going to be killed. The victim stopped the attack by yelling and attacking Howard's testicles. Howard then asked for the name the victim used in the chat room and she responded by saying she had never visited a chat room and did not have a personal computer. As a part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges of intent to commit rape, false imprisonment and possession of illegal drugs. Howard will be sentenced next month.

And, in my opinion, a good thing that it works that way. Can you imagine all the folks adopting for "free $$" if they didn't need to have the expense to counter..?
  14. Agree.. but he did start off with a hot bat.

Here's some information... http://forums.adoption.com/t1435.html http://www.langsamstevens.com/newsletters/SEPT20011.PDF http://www.normanjohnsoncpa.com/fft/2002changes.htm Apparently your friends got credit for their EXPENSES and if the law has not changed they can claim the deduction for up to 5 years. But note this is for expenses only.. it appears you can not take advantage of the credit of you don't have the expenses to offset it.

I wasn't referring to your friends.. I was referring to your comment about the tax credit.... You might want to do some research into adoption not being "so expensive". They are very costly. Perhaps your friend got back a % of the adoption costs - which makes some sense since many legal fees are tax deductable - but I don't think it's a reoccurring deduction. My co-worker spent - between the actual legal fees and travel expenses - well over $20K for his children. Private USA adoptions often times include the medical expenses of the "mother" as well. It aint cheap to have a baby.

Fan.. she should have claimed 2 deductions on her taxes.. filed as head of household.. and gotten the EIC. Holy crap... I know it's touchy to talk about $$ with family sometimes.. but make sure she took all THREE and if not she should file an amended return ASAP. She's due more $$ back!!
  19. Eh.. save your breath. I hate Jerry with the best of them.. but I know he's not a lot of things folks claim he is. Guys like Aboz, , just need someone to blame..
  20. Rex.. My initial was that I suspected it was bulls***, and hilarious, and worthy of sharing. Did I ask about it, sure... but I always thought it was bulls***. Oh.. I didn't say "at all"..
