  1. The fact that this thread has gone this long without the Wire is just sad and pathetic. I'm embarrassed for all of you.

    QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 07:16 AM) Felix, they had a marathon on IFC this past weekend of the Aussie version of Wilfred. I agree it's a tad darker. I also like the love interest more in that version. The one on the F/X series makes me want to punch the screen whenever I see her. I find her incredibly annoying. Definitely agree. I think the Aussie version is just a much better show. It's not to say I don't enjoy the American version, but the Aussie version is simply better all around.

    If you're one of the two or three other people in this thread that enjoy the American version of Wilfred, I recommend checking out the Aussie version. Both are obviously pretty similar (American version steals some lines from the Aussie one), but the Aussie one seems to be a little different... maybe a tad darker. I'm only four episodes in right now, so I can't really say which I've enjoyed more, but I'm leaning toward the Aussie one currently.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Assuming this is true . . . So it's a good trade for KW because it dumps Teahen's salary yet the Teahen extension was a tremendous f***up on KW's behalf that next to no one thought was a good idea at the time? I love how KW makes bad trades to cover up for bad trades, that's been his MO over the past few years. So 6 years of Dan Hudson for a season's worth of good production from Jackson (which won us nothing), 2 months of Frasor, a probable mediocre prospect and maybe Type B compensation. Must we give away good starting pitching in every f***ing trade? Go over budget spending a s*** ton of money on players who don't produce so then you're apparently forced to dump good starting pitching for a reliever, a prospect that I assume will be mediocre and a supp. pick in a god damn seller's market because your team sucks and thus attendance is s*** and you need to start slashing payroll. I pray the prospect is good but I don't see why Toronto would throw in a minor leaguer that's worth a damn, it makes no sense. Tell me what you really think.

    Jim (or anyone else who might have any insight, which I doubt) -- I think I asked for some suggests on funk bands quite some time ago, and if I remember right, you gave me a couple of solid bands (whose names I have now forgotten, of course). I'm always looking for some solid funk, and my collection doesn't really range that far past Funkadelic/Parliament, Sly & the Family Stone and a couple of albums here/there (like Funk Spectrum -- awesome, awesome album). Anyway, if I remember right, you've got a little funk in you. Well recently, the glory of Pandora has basically started some funky guerrilla warfare on my 'weird rock' station, providing me with some (seemingly) solid funk bands: , and The Bamboos, to name a few. Add in the Wire bringing up , and I've got a ton of funk to go through. Are you familiar with any of these groups? I'm really only familiar with a couple of YouTube clips from each and the songs that have been popping up on Pandora, but I have no idea where to begin albumwise. Figured it'd be worth a shot to throw this out there. Otherwise I might have to just start from the beginning and go through the albums, one by one, which probably isn't a bad thing anyway!
  9. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Would anyone be potentially interested in splitting an OOTP 12 licsense It's a waste of money. I've been buying it every year since OOTP 6, and I've finally stopped. They haven't had any real progress in awhile, and it's not worth the $30 they charge (or even $15 as a split).

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) "Wilfred" sucks. Oh wow, you can make a guy in a dog suit hump a teddy bear. It's not original, it's just stupid. There is zero thought put into that moronic show, and there is there zero reason for a dog's persona to smoke and drink. But Franklin and Bash is? Different people like different things. Get used to it.

    Saw "The Trip" yesterday... very good. Definitely recommend it. The dynamic between Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon was fantastic throughout.

    QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 07:07 AM) That's not entirely true, but I have only heard dribs and drabs of their stuff other than the "The Mollusk" album that someone played for me probably 10 years ago and I thought was just about brilliant. The Mollusk is a seriously great album, as is the rest of their stuff depending on the mood you're in. Their s*** goes from being delightfully brown (Pure Guava) to low-fi punk (GodWeenSatan: The Oneness) to 'poppy' (or as close as you'll get for Ween with White Pepper) to a taste of just about everything on 'Chocolate and Cheese.' Definitely recommend their other albums as well (quebec, Shinola, 12 Country Greats and La Cucaracha to a lesser extent). I can't say I recommend The Pod to anyone right away as I still have issues listening to it, but it's got some decent tracks as well. It's just incredibly brown and tough to listen to, though. It's easy to listen a couple of Ween tracks and discount them as a juvenile band and nothing else, but that'd be a mistake. They definitely have a number of tracks that are designed to get a cheap laugh or two, but I think the contrast between those songs and their "serious" ones is really effective in making the whole album an enjoyable experience. They also have a lot of songs that are tributes to other bands/artists (such as the one I linked to in my previous post), and when listening to their catalog, it's clear how much they really love music and the people that play it. There's a huge appreciation for the people that came before them, which is one of their most endearing traits IMO. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 07:07 AM) I REALLY need to dig into their back catalog though because they are great. Thanks for reminding me about these guys. Any time. Over the past year or two, Ween has really become one of my favorite bands (alongside Mr. Bungle -- "California" is one of the best and most interesting albums I've ever listened to in my life). At this point, they're probably ahead of Zappa, but that could just be a tendency to favor the artists most recently in my mind. EDIT: I'm kind of embarrassed that I wrote a whole post about Ween and didn't even bother to mention that Deaner is a great, great .

    QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Excited that Breaking Bad season 3 has finally come out on blu ray/dvd....will allow me to dvr season 4 while I get through season 3 on blu ray. On another note, so I started watching The Shield since I've heard so many great things about it over the years but never managed to see it. I did this with The Wire and am very happy I took the time to go back and watch it. But I must admit I am not really feeling The Shield. I guess it's interesting that the main character is so flawed, and I'm sure that is part of the draw, but I just find the production value to be a bit weak and the acting sort of uninspiring. Not even close to The Wire thus far. Does it get better as the show got more successful/popular? I've never watched the Shield, but I have on intentions of doing that anytime soon. Pretty sure the Wire has ruined every other cop show that I'll ever watch again.

    QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) That is a great song. Great homage to Phil Lynott and the boys for sure. I'm likely the only one in here that appreciates them, but Ween is really an awesome band. Some of their stuff is just sheer brilliance.

    QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) Cowboy Song by Thin Lizzy is an extremely underplayed and unknown song for how f***ing awesome it is. This is so depressingly true about a large number of bands. Never really gone into Thin Lizzy all that much, but I know this song is a Thin Lizzy tribute, and that song is very awesome. I'll have to check out Lizzy sometime.
  18. I like my favorite players too, but to completely ignore everything that you claim to believe in just to make yourself feel better about a player you like is simply stupid. It's very possible to like someone and recognize that they aren't perfect and have flaws.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) You mean aside from the PER stats, right? I don't really consider PER a true efficiency stat. chw42 has gone on about it in this thread before, it's simply a very flawed stat. But sure, even using that, there isn't a significant difference between Smith and Richardson, which was my point in the first place. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) The only time I'll hate on advanced stats is when I'm looking through Rose-colored glasses. aka hypocritical
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) I still fancy Ellis. I'll take the pros over the cons. Ellis + Rose is just a bad combination (which isn't to say they are bad players, they both just have similar play styles and similar weaknesses). Both are inefficient players that need the ball to create, and neither is big enough or talented enough defensively to actually guard opposing teams 2s. Individually, they're both very good players, but I don't see how they could work together efficiently.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) I hate to burst your bubble, because I know you are just having a great time right now, I mean, like, the most fun you've ever had, but there's a big difference between the usage of JR Smith and Jason Richardson. Really, arguing that JR Smith is a better player than Jason Richardson just shows that anyone can cherry-pick stats. Over the last four seasons, Jason Richardson (313 games played) has been the more effective player across the board than JR Smith (308 games played), despite being a much more focal point of his team's offense. Richardson and Smith are nearly identical in PER over the past 4 seasons (16.74 to 16.675, slight edge to J-Rich). However, Richardson has the advantage over Smith in FG%, 3P%, FT% (and obviously and inherently points, boards, etc as he carries more of a workload). JR Smith, despite playing 9.5 fewer MPG over that span of 300+ games, turns the ball over more than Richardson. In the end, you've got two solid, but not ideal options for the Bulls come FA whenever that becomes feasible. To just check-mate this as Smith being the better player, or better shooter, or better scorer, well, that just ignores facts. The man can shoot the ball and would be an obvious upgrade for the Bulls, and I imagine he'd also be cheaper and age better throughout the contract. I guess the reputation that comes with JR Smith scares me away, but I think that reputation is more perceived than factual as I go through the Google logs. Depending on the CBA, I'd rather Richardson in the short term, but JR would be a solid consolation prize. So you've opened my eyes a tad to JR Smith, though I don't see why you are getting so worked up, c'est la vie. I never once said that JR Smith was a better player than Jason Richardson. I've only said that it is simply preposterous to claim JR Smith is a chucker who only scores because he shoots while Richardson is the opposite. I'll also point out that there is nothing at all in your post that talks about efficiency, which was your initial point in the first place. I also continue to find your new dedication to advanced stats to be nothing short of hypocritical. Keep at it though, as long as you're consistent about it from here one out.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I never said Steve was right. Oh, I know. You're smarter than that
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Richardson's been a pretty good shooter since he left Golden State though. His TS% has never dipped below .554 since he left the Warriors. TS% 2010-11: Richardson .555, Smith .550 2009-10: Richardson .574, Smith .515 2008-09: Richardson .571, Smith .576 2007-08: Richardson .554, Smith .603 2006-07: Richardson .512, Smith .585 Points Per Shot 2010-11: Richardson 1.18, Smith 1.24 2009-10: Richardson 1.24, Smith 1.12 2008-09: Richardson 1.24, Smith 1.30 2007-08: Richardson 1.22, Smith 1.35 2006-07: Richardson 1.11, Smith 1.27 Remind me again how one of these players is incredibly inefficient and the other is an awful chucker? ESPECIALLY when you factor in their age? Steve has literally no idea what he's talking about here.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:53 AM) Well, I'm seriously banking that Richardson isn't as bad as 2010/2011. CAREER TS%: Jason Richardson - .531 J.R. Smith - .547 CAREER PPS: Jason Richardson - 1.17 J.R. Smith - 1.21
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) As long as scoring and 3 point shooting mean the exact same thing then yeah I guess you are right. Rose and Smith had the same exact TS% last season, too. And again, so you don't get uppity as if I kicked your dog in the balls, ROSE IS A FAR BETTER PLAYER THAN SMITH. IT'S REALLY NOT CLOSE. I PUT THIS IN CAPS BECAUSE IF I DON'T YOU'LL OBVIOUSLY MISS THIS KEY PART OF MY POST. But if you're going to call Smith a terribly ineffective player at putting the basket in the hoop, then go out of your way to blast Smith for his inefficiency and his points per shot (2010-11 -- Smith 1.24 pps; Rose 1.27 pps | I'll also point out that pps isn't the best way to evaluate efficiency, as it ignores the type of shot you're actually taking, but you brought it up in the first place so I'll use your flawed metric), and yet still refuse to even imagine the possibility that Rose has efficiency issues similar to those you've suggested of Smith, then I really don't know what to say. Maybe I've overestimated your ability to put 1 and 1 together to equal 2, I don't know. I've preached about efficiency for the entire season in the NBA thread only to be told that stats are stupid and mean nothing from just about everyone (yourself included). I really can't handle the hypocrisy you've had in the last page or two.
