Good move. This last month is just an audition for 2008 anyway - might as well get Fields used to LF. Maybe they can bring up Bourgeouis to cover 3B - I'd like to see him at the ML level in September, to see what he can do. And Pablo is not a horrible defensive 3B - plus it would be good for him to get some time on the field before the season is out.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) Unity '08.com NPR had CEO Robert Bingham on this morning. This election season's Moveon.org? I think I believe in the principle, but at the end of the day you have to stand for SOMETHING, right? Standing for logic, moderation, good process and a responsive government isn't something? Nowadays, I think those are huge. I don't think you need to have a crusade on a handlful of specific issues to be a solid leader. You need to know how to lead a nation of people who do NOT agree on this issues.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Well DUH! You have every Dem out there saying we should pull out, some now, some in weeks, some months, etc. What do you THINK that looks like, victory? Call it what you want, but constantly calling for withdrawal sounds like you are giving up, regardless of the circumstances. So they are just remniding people that if you put a Dem in office, they will surrender. Isolationism didn't work in WW2, it won't work in regards to terror. And thank you for highlighting the reason it works - some people actually believe that going into Iraq was part of the war on terror. It wasn't. Of course, it is now, because of the debacle we created over there. So... BushCo creates a stupid, illegal war on a country with no significant terror ties that effect us... they screw up the war in almost every possible way they can... Terrorists seize the opportunity to go after US interests... and so now the only way to be strong on terror is to keep up the charade? Sorry, I'm not falling for it.

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) Looks like Vick is going to get himself out of prison-time by being a snitch. Last I read this morning, that doesn't look likely at all. They are still talking minimum one year. -
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Problem is, you haven't heard republicans saying "boy, I sure how Al Quada attacks us just before the election, that woulod just seal our victory", but you do have Democrats that have publicaly said that positive things in Iraq would be bad for the party. Oh come on, you are not that deaf. How many times have you heard a Republican say or hint that if a Dem took their post, the country would be more likely to be attacked? Hundreds of times easily. I'm sorry but on this one, the GOP has taken the lead in slimey accusations surrounding terror.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Hillary also had some remarks yesterday that probably should be termed some sort of gaffe... Via Chris Dodd's campaign, I think this is the correct reply to that one: No link on the latter one yet, press release. With respect to Hillary's statement, about the GOP gaining an automatic advantage if something bad happens, despite the fact that they have proven to be worthless in the war on terror... she's right. She just shouldn't have said it in public. And actually, I think maybe she is doing something that NEEDS to be done. She is pointing out what many already know but are afraid to say - whereas the GOP is constantly, embarrasingly, saying that putting a Dem in any office means submitting to terrorism. Much as I dislike Hillary, she is right on this one (though she is wrong about being the right Dem to challenge that).

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) If you want to talk about people not doing their job, has anyone stolen more money the last two years than Don Cooper? That's kind of what made me start the thread. You can look at three people when judging whats wrong with a pitcher - the pitcher, the pitching coach, and the catcher (or the pitch-caller). Obviously pitcher is generally going to be number 1. But which comes next? How much difference does a pitching coach make, versus a catcher? It depends on the people involved of course. But I am not sure I'd put the blame as heavily on Coop, as I do on the pitch-calling, right now.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I thought the bench called most of the game. Oh yeah, that was another thing - thanks for reminding me. AJ seems to be taking signals from the bench now than he ever did before. He is less prepared. His attitude isn't news - its a question of how much its effected his play.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) I think Rowand was a good influence on AJ. You may joke, but I actually agree with that. I think the whole three stooges thing was a positive force that way.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Not to brag, but I thought this offense was going to struggle this year. The reason for that was I lost so much confidence in them during the 2nd half of last season, and it just seemed that when you combine that with another year on those legs, the bat speed wasn't where it had to be. Juan Uribe absolutely must go though. I think one thing that the great majority of Sox fans I know agreed on before the season - was that Pods and Erstad starting in the OF was not acceptable. That was terrible. So that one, I think its not BS - I think most people here saw that disaster coming. And certainly we all saw that SOME of the older core of hitters would decline with age. But I don't think most people saw such a huge decline from every single one of them.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) LOL.. we've been saying "something" for 2 years now. Eh, I think he's always been an attitude issue to an extent. But it seemed to me he put it away a bit in 2005, at least on the field. even in 2006, to an extent. But it seems much more obvious this year in his play on the field - he just looks like he has decided to not try as hard.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) I was being 85% facecious, however, I stand by the comment. One side needs to recognize the greater culture that they are entering and the other needs to be sensitive and understanding of the learning curve of the newly arrived migrants; perhaps even learning a bit about the emerging culture. I'd agree with that.

I hate to say this, because its sounds so conspiracy-theory and all that... but I really think that part of the problem with the Bullpen this year, and with both Garland and Danks, is AJ. We've heard a lot of rumors swirling around about his attitude, and he does have a history of sometimes getting a bit petty... Look at the fact that most of the new or almost-new pitchers this year - that is, the whole pen other than Jenks, along with Danks and Floyd - and they have all had problems to one extent or the other. Also, Garland, who tends to be laid-back and appears to let the catcher control the pitches, has also struggled. Add to that, if you watch AJ, he isn't moving around behind the plate is much, he looks even more lacksadaisical than previous years, and he seems to constantly call 2 pitches for each pitcher. Guys like Vaz, Jenks and MB have good enough 1 and 2 pitches to get away with it - the others really don't. Just my theory, but I think AJP got really lazy this year. I think he failed to research his new arms, failed to do the homework on hitters and adjust to them as they adjusted to the Sox pitching, and he decided he was annoyed with the team. I am NOT saying that is 100% of the problem with Garland and the pen, but that it is a significant part. Anyone else feel the same way?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) so, the moral of the story is..... Don't be a jackass in a country that you weren't born in? Knowing this board, I'd say we all took different morals from different stories here.

it hasn't rained all day, and the radar shows nothing even close to the area. I have tickets, and I am going. I'd go if I were you.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) All I know is that every time I make a sentimental visit to Albany Park, I want to cry. The Jewish, German, Irish and Scandinavian immigrants who came there treated the neighborhood a lot different than the current clientele. Oh well, gentrificiation is slowly moving into that high density apartment neighborhood. Time for the gangbangers to start finding a different war zone. Yes arresting and deporting that woman was long overdue. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) Kind of why I moved out of Berwyn. The neighbors thought my front lawn was an oil filter recycling dump. Not to mention the beer bottles and wonderful music blaring at all hours of the day and night. I need not digress anymore. I drive through the town now and again and I cannot believe how bad it looks. We're straying into dangerous territory here. Let's try to avoid the racism, shall we? And I agree with Pratt (wow), those groups that Yossarian mentions were looked at the same way as each one marched into a neighborhood. Something was seen about them that was detestable to someon else.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Farmer is having a hard time getting over the large Red Sox crowd. There always is that big Sawx contingent - more so than any other opponent (except the Cubs). And they are quite possibly the worst fans to have around too (as a whole - I'm sure there are some good ones). Worse than the Yanks or the Indians even. -

Holy crap, AJ threw someone out stealing? --------- Funny if Erstad is back next year as a reserve, which is precisely what he should have been THIS year. -

OK, now it shows Erstad at 1B. That makes more sense. If I could use MLB here I would, but no flash plug-in. -
