Who would you like to see fired the most?
NorthSideSox72 replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Given KW is one of the more successful GM's in the game, he is the one I'd say definitely not. The others I could see arguments for. The only one I'd be in favor of showing the door is Walker, at this point. If the team is horrible again next year, though, I think more heads will roll. -
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Bush lied and people died. When will you "Sheople" realize it was the Bush regime that brought down the towers on 9/11?! NO BLOOD FOR OIL! First sentence is right.

Hilarious. For those unaware, there has been a huge budget battle in Illinois, and the house speaker (Madigan) and the governor (Blagojevich) do not get along. This is the current episode in the soap opera. Blagojevich is such an awful governor. His budget expectations make no sense, and he comes off as about the least intelligent governor the state has ever had. Well, now he's learning something that most people familiar with IL politics already knew - Madigan runs Illinois. Has for some time. We'll see where this goes. Probably nowhere. Amazing point to note: Madigan and Blago are in the same party. And Madigan managed to negotiate budgets with multiple previous governors, who were in the other party. What does that say about Blago?

Fired the most? -
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) so is the Fields to shortstop rumor completely dead? Because I'll be damned if Uribe is back. He continues to get worse and worse batting each year. Fields to SS? Where did you hear that rumor? I would rather see Richar, Ozuna or any number of other people on the team at SS before Fields. That would be brutal. Fields has some great skills, but he isn't even an average third baseman.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) "BOOR-jwaaah" Sort of like a right winger for the Montreal Canadiens. Actually, someone in the FS forum said it was pronounced in the more creole fashion - BOOZE-wah -
It stops now. Any posts after mine with that kind of crap will result in suspensions. I'll clean up the rest now...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) one of them has to be able to play SS. I think that Bourgeois could back-up there, but I don't know how good is defense is for starting purposes. -
EPA approves BP's new pollution dumping
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I guess it ain't over until the fat stack belches. BP now wants a special exemption from federal limits on soot and particulate matter, which it was apparently in violation of already but hadn't been noticed. They now say the hardship is too much to make the fixes necessary. And again, oddly, the State of Indiana has given their blessing to the move, despite opposition by pretty much everyone else, including even the EPA. I am starting to think that Indiana is doing this because they are afraid BP will cut jobs in Indiana. I see no other motivation for their repeated moves to allow more pollution (which is easy for them to stomach since they kind of wrote Gary off decades ago anyway, and don't make much use of the lake). -
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 07:16 AM) man, that would take some balls to call "the team." Imagine calling the Bears and asking for somebody to pay for your car that Tommie Harris smashed. Well, if you called and said "pay for it or I'm going to the press with this information", you might get a pretty quick response.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 06:03 AM) Do you really believe that? Don't you think that carrying out WH communications on his RNC Blackberry in blatant violation of the Presidential Records act is material? Don't you think that Scott Jennings', Lurita Doans', et al. showing of Rove's political Powerpoint presentations to more than 20 non-partisan government offices in apparent violation of the Hatch Act is material? Don't you think that Novak and Russert both fingering Rove in the Plame leak is material? Don't you think that McNulty's testimony confirming Rove wanted Tim Griffin in as Arkansas USA and that in fact Bud Cummins had been fired to make that happen (thus contradicting the official line that the firings were entirely performance based) is material? Yes, Karl was obviously a complete innocent in this and it was all a partisan witch hunt. I am not saying he isn't a slime ball. He is. And there are definitely a few things I'd label "questionable" in his history. But nothing that rises nearly to the level of ire he drew, as if he had stomped on the Constitution. I stand by what I said - Gonzalez was far worse than Rove in pretty much every sense, and I think the crusade to get Rove was much more political than anything else.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Someone at SouthsideSox made the comment "Maybe Bourgeois can be our Theriot..." After looking at the numbers on the cube, pretty interesting stuff. Bourgeois Theriot Theriot's 2006 numbers in Iowa, and Bourgeois at AAA in 2007. If someone could post a table, that would be nice. Anyone think maybe he should get as much consideration at 2B as Richar? Maybe a platoon? -
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) Aaron Rowand & Chris Young in the same outfield would've made me hate to miss a pitch. We will eat crow for a long time the way that KW handled Arow over FREAKIN thanksgiving...we deserve to suck after that karma. btw, jim thome bores the hell out of me. what can he do? heck Arow has better power numbers...HA HA HA! hey KW thanks for making me a temporary Phils fan! You know, I agree Thome has been a bit disappointing, but he gets waaaaaay more flak than his numbers deserve. 1. The guy still has an .913 OPS, and hits .284 w/RISP (.368 w/2 out and RISP) 2. He is still far better than Everett was at DH in 2005 3. His numbers this year are very similar or even slightly better than Thomas', despite comparisons otherwise I really don't get all the Thome hate. If he gets a few more days off each week next year with Dye at DH a couple days, I think we'll see a very good Thome.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) But it's ok if he is our LF? I thought the same thing.
-
Well, I don't think its the farthest out idea ever, but... to say that a healthy Crede/Fields is better than Thome is kind of ridiculous. Its not even close. Thome is still twice the hitter either of those two are. And if we look at the LF-3B-DH combo you mention (Owens-Crede-Fields), I think I'd far rather take Fields-Crede-Thome. I wouldn't be opposed to dealing Thome. But, of course, he has a nearly full NTC. It probably ain't happening. And if they did that, I'd rather see more talent put in the OF and put Dye at DH.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Apparently in my opinion no longer holds weight here. I prefer my women to look like women, not 12 year old boys. That is all. +1

Rove was a witch hunt. They never had anything material on him - he just represented the most appetizing target for Dems. So I agree there. But Gonzalez was a slimey, useless AG, who scoffed at the law as if it were something holding him back from his job. He never lived up to that job, and was rightly shown the door.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) Wow. You have to be joking to say Aldimbulb isn't (wasn't) a political hack. She was just about the worst one in Mrs. Clinton's cabinent. Weird. I don't see it that way. There were dumber ones in that cabinet, and worse ones. Dumb she ain't. And again, I think maybe folks are confusing policy with execution. 15 years of Clinton and Dubya foreign policy have screwed up our global position something fierce (though in very different ways). Bush I was the last Prez who I think had an overall positive foreign policy record.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) No, I am not joking, she was a political hack who was overmatched in the affairs of foreign policy. She did a horrible job. I really have to disagree. She was a far sight better than anyone in BushCo's cabinet has been at foreign affairs, with the exception of Colin Powell. I think you are confusing policy with execution. I didn't like a lot of Clinton's foreign policy either, but I didn't see Albright's delivery as a problem.

CBS Gamecenter Glog said the crowd seemed pretty into it, for a makeup game. Contreras with a reasonably good start for the first back-to-back-toback HR job since '05 Anyone see the game? How did Fields look in LF?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) I forgot what a hottie she was. Didn't she take Patrick Stewart as her date to some black-tie DC event once?
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) You are saying Madeline Albright was a hack? You have to be joking. You may not have liked her stands, but she was eminently qualified and did a pretty solid job with the policies she was given.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) How can you not have confidence in this guy? Great. Another singing AG. Let the eagle soar...

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) You don't get to the major leagues by not being able to be coached. The problem with the Sox, IMO, is that since '05 things from the players perspective are all out of wack. Kinda like the '85 Bears still think their s*** don't stink... But... I think sometimes a player can get the majors or even the minors and THEN decide they are too good to be coached. Maybe or maybe not the case with Juan, I don't know. But I feel pretty certain it happens.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) please please please let Eggy develop into an ML-er for next season. I don't know about that. He hasn't seen AAA yet, and he struggled a bit this month after Lucy left town. I think he needs the fall league and a year at AAA. Heads might disagree though.
