Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN

I'll be very curious to see what his plea deal says, sentence-wise. Hopefully he gets at least a couple years. -
Why does CAIR still get the love from politician?

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) so because i talk about them on a message board, the Ohio Governor decides to speak to CAIR at thier 10th annual banquet? http://www.cair-net.org/default.asp?Page=a...&theType=NR Because I question their legitimacy on Soxtalk, Barbara boxer gives awards from them? (although she tried to take it back once the public heard about it). http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/2...uslimgroup.html Wht does the newsmedai run to CAIR for quotes whenever they feel they need a Muslim POV? My college graduating class had more members than CAIR does. (OK, we all know the answer to that last one, most are just lazy, some have an agenda, some both). They have become like Jessie and Al, self-appointed spokesmen for a group, and the major news players just accept that. Oh I agree, I think the media gets lazy, and go with what is right in front of them. Not all media of course, but much of the so-called "MSM", particularly the TV end of things. They aren't news organizations anymore so much as amplifiers. They just regurgitate what real journalists create/provide in a flashier manner. But I do think that they are also proliferated by opposing forces. In other words, people will use CAIR, or say Jesse Jackson, not just to represent a group objectively, but also as a target for ire. Jesse or someone from CAIR speaks, and some people apply that to all Muslims or all blacks. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Rush Hour 3 was very very funny. Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular. Ugh. 1.) It's Nikola Tesla. 2.) He was Serbian. Well I'll be darned - I always thought he was Russian. I probably added the "i" to his name for the same reason. At least I got the physicist/psycho part right.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since there are always critiques of when Ozzie messes up a call... I noticed a very good coaching call last night I want to point out. Pods' HR. He shows bunt early in the count, as you'd expect him to with a man on second and no outs (or maybe it was 1 out). But then he gets ahead 3-0 (and takes), then 3-1. Seattle is expecting a bunt in a big way, and the pitcher has no desire to walk a guy like Pods, so you KNOW he is going to throw a fastball for a strike. So they let Pods swing away to try for a hit, since even Pods can hit a ball hard when he knows what's coming. The HR was just a bonus. Anyway, just wanted to throw out there. -
Moore fills an important role. I don't like him as a person, from what I know so far. And I find his tone in his movies to be irritating. BUT... he has and does expose some factual information that many of us would not otherwise be discussing. And that can sometimes be a positive. If Sicko makes more people in this country look at how messed up our healthcare system is, then I think he has accomplished something positive (even if its done in an annoying manner).

You ask why a small group gets big audiences. You post an article about how the group is dwindling fast... on a message board. I think you answered your own question. -

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I do think that there needs to be changes in the health care system. Currently, it seems fairly inhumane, especially for a country with the resources of the United States. And I agree with Balta that prevention would help save a lot of money. But the solution needs to be reasonable, and we need to make sure we keep the best doctors in the world here. Even though I agree with this post, I do want to say that I think Doctors are a major part of the problem with the current health care system (and one that isn't talked about nearly as much as insurers and hospitals). I think its become culturally acceptable in medicine to be wholly uninvolved in a patient's actual treatment, let alone prevention. 30 seconds with the Doc, here's your scrip, go home and sleep it off. Oh and try these drug samples I got at the latest Lilly gof outing. Yes, some of that is the result of the way insurers work. Yes, lawsuits make things more expensive. But I think a LOT of the blame for the state of the system can fall right on the shoulders of the Doctors.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Still fairly disappointing that we came in that low but couldn't sign everyone. Anywho...That's $5 million more that we have available to spend on a replacement SS. I agree, the fact that we didn't sign everyone disappoints me more than the amount of bonuses paid. And that 5M would like nice going to a real CF.

I'd like to see Dawson and Blyleven both get in this coming year. But Raines is tempting too.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) The Sox's signing bonuses to players in the top 10 rounds ranked 26th among the 30 major league teams. Baltimore led all major league teams by spending $7,672,500 That's per Gonzalez in the Tribune. I don't think Flash will be a happy camper. Means almost nothing. We drafted late in any case, so I'm not surprised - that's what one should expect. Notice that most teams near the top had lousy records last year, and drafted early. Posted in FutureSox too.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) Link Reading that list of who else he has sued made me laugh out loud for a good while. Awesome. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) Cite? Because average stats are much, much closer than that. In 2006, the AL era was 4.56, the NL era was 4.49. I want to see, at least, some multiple regressions before I believe that line. I think the AL-NL difference is exaggerated to the point of absurdity. Well, if the argument is that ERA's would be higher for the same pitcher in the AL than the NL, then comparing the current ERA's in each league isn't really a valid comparison. The point being made is that the competition on both sides of the ball in the AL is better (as evidenced by a truly dominant interleague record for the AL). Therefore, the best measures would be pitchers who actually changed leagues. See how their ERA's changed.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) This seals it for me, I will never go to work in a mine. Please tell me that pun was intentional.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Off the top of my head, do the cubs have $70M a year tied to 4 guys a season for the next four years and $85M for 6 guys next season (Ramirez, Lee, Big Z, Lilly , Marquis and the Fonz)? Their pyroll has to be $120M next year. That team is a cash cow. I believe the term "cash cow" is in reference to how much money they bring in, not how much they spend. Cash hog might be a better animal reference.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) Well, unfortunately, with the first 2 guys you mention, we don't have much of a choice right now. Pick your poison at SS. It's either them or Andy Gonzalez is your everyday shortstop. And people wonder why I say SS is by far a more important position to fix than any other for next year. Still not as important as LF and CF. Uribe at SS is better than the current Erstad/Pods/Owens mess in LF/CF.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) this probably sounds very hard to do, but if other people's lives are going to be at risk trying to save the 6 people who are very likely to be dead, then they should reconsider putting more people in danger. i'd hate to see anymore people die from this. And that's what has happened. Physical rescue operations have been suspended. They are still drilling bore holes though, to try to get cameras, mics, air and water down there.

91.5M over 5 years (that's an average of 18.3/year), plus a 6th year option (unclear who holds the option, but performance is involved). Also a full NTC for the life of the contract. This is, by the way, the highest average salary for a multi-year pitcher deal... EVER. I think the Cubs overpaid again.

Deadline has passed (3 hours ago), no word yet. I wonder what was decided. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) LINK Well, Obama sure as heck needs some strategy help. He is, in some ways, suffering from some of the same problems Kerry did - trying for a public persona that does not fit his natural style. Its not too late for hinm to change gears, and he needs to if he wants a chance to win.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) So an odd thing happened to some Bekins drivers... We booked the Hogan move from Miami to California. The drivers have been there packing and loading for a couple days and everything is fine. Then jag bag Nick shows up and soon after out of the blue the cops show because he makes an accusation of “stolen jewelry”. The Bekins driver has the presence of mind to say “Hey, I’m here and all my men are here and our equipment. We agree to a search without a warrant.” Lined em all up, did the search and they are clean….turns out the butler did it!! Hulk ends up popping open a few brewskys and shared them with the “Bekins Team”. Wonder if that will make an episode of "Hogan knows best". Who is Nick?

Any relation to another former White Sox outfield product who came up in the 80's? Dave Gallagher?

Anyone have a link to a list of the Sox' draft picks, including who did and did not sign?

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Eh, I don't know. I'd say Big Z is worth 4mil more per season that Mark. It's a nice deal for both sides (although he could have gotten another year or so on the open market if I were to venture a guess). 4 mil per year, AND 2 extra years (including the PLAYER option)? I'm not so sure. Z is erratic to a fault, both mentally and physically. And unlike Z who requires power to be effective, MB should age better, as his keys are differential speed and control. Plus look at their track records. I'd much rather invest in MB.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) + a 19 year player option 19 years? He'd be like 45 by then!
