1-2-3 9th... 41!!!!!!! Ties the record!

QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Hey, hey, the Anglicans are quite progressive too. I imagine the rest of the "mainline" protestant churches will soon follow. My money is on the Methodists being next. Methodists? I've found that the methodists in the south particularly are pretty damn conservative. I have a hard time seeing them make that shift anytime soon. Anyone know the Jewish stand on this issue? Just curious. If they haven't already, I'd bet them next to accept gay clergy/rabbi's.

Cops going undercover to nab... speeders?

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) True, but they do have quotas to meet. Im sure they could very easily ticket drivers all day. But say they are having a slow month and they decide they need to get some numbers so they just nab anybody. A solution we talked about in a class of mine in school was possibly posting an officers ticketing and arrest record online for the public to view. Considering a regular person can drive around in a city and find drugs any time they want, Id like to think they focused on stiff of that nature more often. Again, SOME departments have quotas. Others do not. I think an easier solution (and one less likely to put cops in danger) is to make sure departments are evaluating their officers on their real priorities. If you as an officer are assigned to the traffic unit, and your main goal is to cut down accidents on a specific stretch of road, then you SHOULD have a quota to meet or something similar. But to put that type of quota across the department is useless, unless your municipality is 100% free from all crimes other than traffic ordinance violations. -
Fossils challenge old evoluton theory

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) hilarious thread that served my purposes well. The usual suspects so quick to 1) assume what I was implying, 2) defend something I wasn't questioning, 3) ridicule my personal beliefs and 4) ignore what I actually said after the article. The next time I get banned, I'll pull out this gem and give myself a laugh. PA likes to laugh. this is like Christmas, er, I mean Winter Solstice. I just re-read the thread, and I don't see anyone ridiculing your personal beliefs. Could you point that out please? And if it served your purposes well, then why are you acting high and mighty about having people disagree with you? That's kind of the purpose of these forums, is to discuss. Not to mention that starting a thread with the purpose of getting people to react badly is... I don't know... passive aggresive? -
For those unaware, today is the Iowa Straw Poll for the GOP. Romney has pushed hard in Iowa, Giuliani and McCain have laid back a bit. The others are trying to make a name for themselves. We'll see how it turns out - the Coliseum in Ames, Iowa, will be the focus of national attention today. Too bad Iowa State's basketball team hasn't been able to achieve the same thing in that building for some years now (waits to be verbally assaulted by Heads).

So last night, watching Bobby in the 9th... I don't think the crowd at the Cell has been that loud at any other time this year. The "Bob-by" chants were almost thunderous. I guess when the team is such a disappointment, you have to grab onto something.
-
QUOTE(gosox41 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) That's crazy talk. At least for this team. Bob Keep an eye on Sergio Miranda. Still too early to tell, but he's got some potential in that direction.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) yeah and stone said we are seeing a superstar blossoming in his infancy stage....i dont think fields is headed for a superstar career....i think he will be a very good player...a jermaine dye type perhaps...but ithought they went a bit overboard too.....even stoney was inquisitive of hawk when hawk compared him to killebrew I would imagine that Stone tries to blend in with Hawk to the extent possible, as any good announcer (especially a guest) does. But when Hawk goes that far overboard, Stone will call him on it.

Carly Fiorina is a scary, scary woman. And not in any good way. She was in many ways the worst stereotypes of a big corporate CEO gone mad on power. How she could be looked upon as a church leader is beyond me. But other than that, I have to say, hearing those names speak about faith would probably be very interesting.
-
Though I like the Stone-Hawk team, I think they got way out of hand with the Fields love last night. The guy made three different fielding mistakes, and they somehow managed to make two of them out to be "good plays". Then Hawk said that Fields reminded him of Harmon Killebrew. I mean, I'm excited to have Fields on this team, but let's control ourselves a bit here.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) Um, call me crazy, but he's an idiot for just thinking it's O.K. to run anybody off the road, cop or not. Oh I agree. And its crazy to drive drunk and get into an altercation in the middle of Western... and its idiotic to drive on a suspended license... its really the amalgam of idiotic decisions, all at once, that got my attention.
-
I'd rather he replaced Cintron, as opposed to Ozuna. But I do think he is a possibility for the team in 2008. I know very little about him. He doesn't appear to have an AAP page yet... maybe you or someone else can create one, so that we can learn more about him.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) Last we looked, your evil monopoly was cheaper than Texas open choices. I believe this was when Com Ed was doing some community charity thing that some people objected to. ComEd's rates were freezed a few years back, that's why they are still low. But they are also now in the process of raising them, and claiming that if the state limits them again, they could go bankrupt (which is pure baloney).

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Is this official, because I cannot find it mentioned anywhere? I hope it is, but it is odd something like this would not be at any of the other media outlets by now. Well, ESPN via AM 1000 was the reported source. That's as official as it has gotten. ??? -
Idiot of the day. Who in their right mind, while driving intoxicated and on a suspended license, decides to try to run a person they know is a cop off the road?

I don't know what its like to work there, but, Dick's is an awful, awful store to shop at. I've been to multiple locations and they are constantly out of everything, their staff know little or nothing of the sport(s) they are selling equipment for, and they lack any serious outdoor gear. Best Buy, at the corporate level, tried the ROW model recently (Results Oriented Workplace), and they are known for experimenting with new methods. Seems like a progressive organization. So that might be a good place.

I have researched this with ComEd (for you Illinois folks). IN 2008, they will start offering an energy choice program, where you can buy your power from alternate sources. I have no more details than that just yet, though.

With Pods not in next year's plan (it appears), pretty much anything they can get from the Cubs would be worth it. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) I think DJ is much better without Hawk. I have noticed, when DJ was on a national game, he was a lot better. Seems both of them are better without the other. Listened to them last night for the first time (Stoney and Hawk). Sounded pretty good. I'm hoping Stone replaces one of them this offseason. Not likely, but I can hope. Even better, replace both with McDowell and Stone. That might be a fun combo of former pitchers.

Putting Fields, who already struggles at 3B, at SS, would be a bad idea. Better to try him in LF, if you move him at all.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) He has 8 singles to left field at home this year and only 1 double in the left center gap. He used to be one of the best opposite field hitters in the game during his Twins days now he just flies out in the majority of his ABs to shallow left and center in the majority of his ABs. He's trying to get too much lift on his linedrives instead of just going with the outside pitch and working that left center field gap. He's gotten average up to .270 but he'd be so much more valuable if he just concentrated on taking the ball the other way for singles and doubles while turning on the occasional fastball rather than trying to lift the ball the other way and falling to one knee on high fastballs like he's doing now. Yeah that's true, I haven't seen him hit a single ball to left center. But I have seen some flares to hard left.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) This is quite far from the truth. Things I dislike: AJ's lack of basehits to left field, Really? Seems to me he does that a lot. Otherwise though, loved the post. Awesome.
