I don't know who they all are, but the Twins' radio guys are very, very good. I think maybe Blyleven is among them? Anyway, how long is Stoney in there? I get back home tonight, I'd like to listen sometime this weekend to the two of them to see how they are.

Someone else stop by chat. Flash and Murcie are freaking me out.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) That's where we diverge. It's indeed more demographically different, but it's certainly not much different in terms of idealogy. I'm actually not trying to pick an argument, I'm just trying to say that the ideas out there are no different, other then the times which we live. The stuff from 2006 is the same crap we're talking about in the 2008 election cycle, because none of these nitwits will actually have anything to do if they didn't cry about all of the "problems" they will always need to take care of. I don't know if that makes sense or not. I think we just don't see things the same way on this one. I think I am just as frustrated as you. But for me, I am not so frustrated with the pool of candidates... I am frustrated with the poll-answering public who choose Clinton and Giuliani out of those pools. I mean, in both cases, they seem to me to be the worst possible candidates. I think there are multiple candidates in both parties that, while I don't agree with their every stance, I think bring a lot to the table. But instead, we get the money machines, and we get the sellouts coming in first because they can buy their way into our hearts and minds. As much as I dislike the idea of putting most things 100% publically funded... I think campaigns really have to be, if we are to have a worthwhile system. When some candidates can somehow raise $30M a quarter, despite the supposed $2000 limit per person (or whatever it is), there is clearly something else going on here. If that limit were really, truly enforced, and companies had the same limitations, I think we'd all be far better off.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) YOU? Asking for proof? You are kidding, right? Have you ever offered up proof for any of the insane things even the liberals on here slapped you down for calling people racist if they were white don't like illegal immigration? You need to go back to the kids room. There is no age limit in the sandbox. Let's take a step back everyone.

boooooooo. Too bad this sad moment had to happen. I agree with Balta on that. Baseball is worse off for it. The sooner someone else breaks that number, the better. And I am very, very glad that Bonds won't be in a Sox uniform.

Nice to see Masset translating well to starting. 3 long stints (starts), only 2 ER over 16 innings.

QUOTE(Calderon @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I'm new to the board, but I assume that rumor mongering is frowned upon. However, I have it on good authority that Fautino De Los Santos has been promoted to A-Advanced Winston-Salem. If you are pulling rumors out of your butt, its frowned upon. But if you actually have a good authority, or if you can cite an article or source... then we like it!

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Of course it would be an offseason deal. I was thinking a deal like Masset/Broadway, Aardsma and Sisco. Both Masset and Aardsma will be out of minor league options next year. A three for one deal or at least 2 pitchers for Quentin minimum for a top quality guy like Quentin. Contreras and $20 mill won't be enough for Quentin. Those three arms would be waaaaaay to much for Quentin.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) http://rotoworld.com/ I just posted in the generic sox trade thread, someone on WSI claims the Sox have already made an offer. There is an ESPN insider article on their MLB page, but I can't get to it. Anyone out there have access?

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
NorthSideSox72 replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Anyone have ESPN Insider access? Someone on WSI claims that ESPN Insider indicates the White Sox made an offer for Wily Mo Pena, after he cleared (or hit) waivers. -
Sorry, got the wrong first name - he is Alan Regier. Found this article that mentions him, only briefly though, and has a quote or two. Seems to take a more conservative approach with his prospects, for what that is worth.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) He is the best pitching coach in the business. Since you seem so obsessed with Atlanta's player development over the years... were you aware that the person who is now Director of Player Development for the White Sox is Dan Regier, formerly of the Atlanta Braves' system?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) Not necessarily because their values had to come from somewhere. Again, not necessarily from religion, faith or deities.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) Where does a value system come from? And parents and upbringing doesn't count... You just eliminated the most logical answer.

Cops going undercover to nab... speeders?

Cops going undercover to nab... speeders?
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) So there is a normal range that cops would need to fall into? So, right or wrong, they do need to write tickets to keep their jobs? Until we see a dramatic reduction in traffic crimes, I don't see a problem with expecting cops to write tickets. Not really what I said. Some departments, its irrelevant. Other departments, its looked at casually. Yet others, there is an actual quota or range. That final scenario is, in my experience, the rarity. I have no problem with tickets, but I do have a problem with requiring certain numbers of them. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) Your internal desire was taught to you as a youngster by your environment which had a value system. Yes. That is true. But its not necessarily derived from religion or faith.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) How is a traffic cop reviewed? If he works a week and writes one ticket, isn't someone wondering what he's doing? Well, my experience was in a department where the number of citations written was not a performance hurdle. It was noted, but not part of your performance, unless you were at an extreme (none might be a problem, but so would too many). I suppose in some sleepy little suburbs or towns, some departments may use that as a performance gauge. But the majority of departments I am familiar with, it was either not part of evaluation at all, or it was some small thing. There are some departments where its a bigger deal I am sure. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) What concern of the consequences would there be if there was no fear of retribution? Well, I will pipe in here. I personally do not feel that one needs God, or any sort of religion, to know right from wrong. I like to think I act rightly not just out of fear, but of an internal desire to not hurt people. Of course, that internal desire may be directly linked to God, in some peoples' eyes.

ONE AND ONLY IN-THREAD WARNING This is a good topic, so I'm not closing. But all snarkiness needs to stop. No more insults or insinuated insults. Next post that does it, I close the thread and suspensions may be handed out.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) Why than would someone invite me to church? You've gone from wanting to ban all religion, to saying religion is pushy, to saying someone invited you to Church once?!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) More money funneling in is more money to spend. To deny that all municipality workers, including the cops, do not benefit, seems a tough argument to win. They may benefit indirectly, but in my experience, it is so indirect that no motivation exists at that level. but, if the department itself has policies about quotas (which are not pervasive), then there is that motivation. And the quotas, if they are there, are likely pushed by entities outside the department. -
Gio voted 5th best lefthanded starter
NorthSideSox72 replied to RockRaines's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Hi folks new to the board. Who says Gio needs to get bigger and stronger? Baseball America's latest Prospect Hot Sheet has him up to 6 feet tall now "6. Gio Gonzalez, lhp, Double-A Birmingham (White Sox) The six-foot lefthander continues to state his case as the top prospect in the White Sox farm system, leading the minor leagues with 158 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings. In his last three starts, Gonzalez has thrown 19 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs and compiling a 26-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio." They also gave him 10 extra strikeouts for good measure. Hm. The legends grows. Actually, since he is 21 and entered the minors at (I think) 19... it is entirely possible he has in fact grown since he entered the system. Some kids are still getting taller at 19 and 20. -

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) not too get too far off on a tangent, but I remember a few years back when they first started the increased fines in construction zones, it was a kneejerk reaction to a worker being killed by a speeder. They failed to mention that the speeder was drunk. or that of the 7 previous fatalities in the previous 7 years, 6 of those were also from drunk drivers, and one was from a worker who backed over a coworker. So regardless of the fines, etc, the drunks were going to speed anyway. So all that fine does is screw you or me if we happen to be going fatser than 45 and a cop was bored. or we get nailed by a f***ing camera, which is also bull. It is revenue generation under the guise of worker safety. I'd say its both. Just remember, the cop doesn't get that money from the ticket. Heck, even the police department itself gets little or no money out of it. The money goes to courts, or to state funds to be redistributed according to their whims. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) But heavy precipitation makes it cooler... That was bad, I know. You clearly weren't outside in Chicago yesterday afternoon, when it was 90 degrees, raining and the humidity was about 238917562785692876923487567%.
