QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) I PMed some people, absolutely. Nothing wrong with asking people for their votes especially people that wouldn't have voted otherwise. No problem at all. The politician willing to knock on the most doors, shake the most hands, and use the right methods (even if people find those methods off-putting), is often the one who will win. Issues be damned.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) As I stated earlier, I was mostly interested if a platform that combined GOP and DEM ideals would have any traction. I wasn't motivated enough to make "lawn signs" or avatars and signatures, although I thought those were pretty cool. If GP is taking the time to PM people, more power to him. It shows the value of hard work in campaigns. Near as I can see, he did not respond too much on any one issue. There is a real lesson here. Just like our President is elected in 30 second sound bites, someone here can basically do the same thing and garner a lot of support. Agreed. But all that aside, voting doesn't close until tomorrow EOD, so, its not over yet. Rex has a pretty big lead, but its up in the air beyond that...

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) I love this argument. Since you didn't vote for me, I can afford to make fun of you. Just so we're clear, you're saying that since this is a whitesox message board, no discussions outside of the whitesox should occur on this site? Furthermore no contests involving non-white sox subjects should take place? Because by the looks of it there seems to be a lot of people that talk about other baseball teams, not to mention other sports teams, on this site. Likewise, there are numerous contests on this site that have nothing to do with the white sox, not to mention they take place ON NON-SOXTALK websites. And the mere fact that there's a viable sub-discussion section completely dedicated to non-sports subjects makes me laugh at your assertion. It's cool if you don't want to participate, and it's even ok that you didn't take any time to research the candidates and what they stand for, but think before you post. I think Dorf was, as he said, looking for a specific reaction, so that he could make his point. We now all know what that point was. Although I didn't particularly like the method either. This could be fun, actually. We have voting controversy to argue about! So now that we know about one particular candidate's tactics, which by the way are not against any of the rules of the election that I can see... what does everyone think? Seems he was effective at least.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) let me guess... either Northside or Gregory... I wouldn't stoop that low Please. If I was spamming, why am I in last friggin' place?! In truth, I did PM one person. I guess I should have done another 10 ot 15.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) Uhhh, because this is a WHITE SOX MESSAGE BOARD??? Who is "us?" If you don't like it, then don't participate. Have a nice day.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) If only I'd have known about that razor wit. . . Hey, can I change my vote?!? This is Chicago. Just vote again***. I'm sure there's a way. ***this statement was made by NSS72 the poster not NSS72 the Moderator. Any opinions expressed are actually no one's opinions at all, he didn't mean what he said, and no, there is no way to vote again. Side effects may include death.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) Mod-given right. damn, that's witty. I did it all for you, Jim. Enjoy it.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Why would you boycott the Sox for trying to improve by signing one of the best players on the market and one of the greatest players of all time? That's a bit ridiculous. Because I don't go to see the Sox JUST because of the talent on the field. I expect people to have some respect for the game, if I am going to contribute to their $10M a year. If not, they can do whatever they want, but they aren't getting my money to do it. Just my choice.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) I'm sure that was a botched joke too. No, that was a botched olive branch, if I recall. Different tactic, similar result.

QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) yeah bonds is going to jail lol......o.j. didnt go to jail and he killed somebody That's some great logic.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) 1.) Why would that happen? 2.) Why just single out the democratic candidate? He's referring to the one VP debate in 2004, between Edwards and Cheney. Edwards tried to make a bridge comment and brought up Cheney's daughter, but it didn't go over well with everyone.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) While I don't assume the Sox have been and are totally PED free, acquiring someone like Bonds seems to advocate it. That's the perception I don't want associated with the Sox. That's my feeling as well. I can't get upset and Player X who might cheat, because well, I don't know if he does or not. Bonds, we all know. Therefore, he becomes the target. I feel the same way about McGuire, Canseco and Palmeiro.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) If we sign Bonds, I'll burn my jersey. Book THAT. I'm not worried, it'll never happen. Ditto. Season ticket plan... cancelled. But I agree, not gonna happen.

So, for those not aware, we are having a mock election in the Buster. Something we do for fun in the offseason in there. We are voting for "President of Soxtalk Nation"... which of course is purely ceremonial. Window dressing, really. Kind of like the UN. Anyway, as one poster pointed out, only 1.63% of registered users have actually voted. So here I am making a plea - go over there and vote! Vote for any of the candidates. But get out the vote! Make your voice heard! Link to voting thread. /begging.
-
Seriously, we need more votes. OK, I need more votes. But still, 1.63%? Should I make a shameless post in SLaM telling people to come over here and vote?
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) I'd rather take any two and run as a ticket. To facilitate that, I'd step aside and let someone else take on Rex. We already have a second place, I think running as a ticket would be interesting. OK, top two build tickets. And Tex, its still early - you might not finish in the top 2 you know... Should I start a new poll about this? Whether we want a second vote for Veep, or second vote with Veep candidates like a primary-regular system, or just end it after this one?
-
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) I think we should do an Election with VPs.... that would be fun. Let's do that. The winner of this election is Prez, then we'll put the other 4 in for a VP vote. Any objections?
-
Question: Since there are only 5 candidates, when this vote is over on Thursday, should we just leave it at that? With no run-off? The whole runoff thing was only there because we originally had like 8 candidates. Opinions?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) Are you Lovie Smith? Stay the course!!!

Waiting time for a Doc, most important issue in Canada

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) See my other posts in this thread. Not everyone is deserving IMO. Just curious: who is deserving? And how would you implement a policy to determine that, and enforce it? -
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061205/ap_on_..._an/fiji_coup_6 Everyone else appears to be going the route of cutting off ties. No one wants to get involved in this particular mess.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 08:09 AM) Please don't vote for yourself? Then I will make a deal with all the candidates, I'll vote for y'all, y'all vote for me! I believe that rule was stated from the beginning. If we do this again next year, and people really dislike it, we'll remove it. I just figured that we'd end up with a lot of candidates being a significant portion of the voting group, so, it seemed like a good idea to put those votes elsewhere. Otherwise, just give all of us one vote each. So let's stick with it for this one. And you are more than welcome to strike bargains with folks for your vote, if you'd like. But, as this isn't the Cook County voting system, you can only vote for 1 of the other candidates.
-
Here it is, the moment we've all been cringing for... the vote! Please select you candidate of choice - ONCE. They are listed in alphabetical order (in case someone was wondering). Candidates: Please do not vote for yourself. Honor system. If you would like, you may express your endorsements or votes by posting in this thread. Good luck to all! The voting will close either first thing Friday morning (around 8am).

Ask NorthSideSox72 - candidate forum

Although the debates are closed, and I made my final "ad" post... just so everyone is aware, you can still ask me any questions you'd like to in this thread. I'll answer them through the election. Thanks for all your excellent questions to this point! -
Citizens of Soxtalk... Thank you for your participation in this election, which I hope becomes and annual tradition. And thank you specifically for your excellent questions and discussions. Its been a lot of fun! As for my candidacy, I won't add much to what I've already presented. I believe all 10 amendments of the Bill of Rights should be protected with great vigor. I believe that decisions made in our national interest, such as foreign policy and environmental issues, should be viewed through a long term lense. And I believe the the government can and should be run as efficiently as a profitable private business. These tenets dictate most all of my individual stances. Feel free to check out my other posts and discussions for further detail. Good luck to all the candidates - you have all impressed me, and I will have a hard time deciding which of you to vote for (since I cannot vote for myself). Finally, to the voting public - I sincerely thank you for your support. -NSS72
