  1. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) I hate this trade... Its absolutely worthless... I would rather have Borch in the outfield than Gload anyday... despite Borchards recent boobles too. Id rather have a PH that has a chance to ge the big hit like Borch rather than Gload. Sure Gload has been better in the past in the MLB but he just doesnt do anything for me. He's kinda a slappy hitter and I hate how he goes up swinging at first pitch sometime. Probably worthless. But Gload presents a lot more positives as the 25th guy than Borch does. Gload makes good contact, gets on base, is a proven MLB hitter, and plays corner OF just fine. Better than Borch in fact in ST. The only things Borch brings to the table are the occasional 450' bomb, a better arm than Gload and a whole lotta K's.
  2. QUOTE(bulokis @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) I agree with that. I was rooting for Borchard to make it as OF reserve bcoz at least he plays the OF. Maybe Kenny will get an OF that bats right handed to help our bench. So far this spring, Borch hasn't played OF worth a darn. Gload has. And Thornton is a no-lose deal. He's either another in the parade of loser LOOGY candidates, or maybe he gets better.
  3. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Do not see any way this trade helps Sox at all. Nor does it hurt the Sox at all.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Nice play by Gload to save the old gas can Nomo from giving up another run. For a guy who everyone says was worthless on defense, he's shown some leather in ST, even in the OF. Is he at 1B or in the OF today?
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Blakely is 29 years old. He needs more time in the minors because he's a career minor leaguer. Seems likely.
  6. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) this was a kick ass movie. If you don't like movies that may make you think or brings up radical ideas than you should probably go check out "shaggy dog". Just because a movie deals in a provocative subject matter doesn't make it a good movie. The subject, and some of the material, were very thought-provoking. I agree. But taken as a whole, this was just not a good movie. It was scatter-brained and lacked any sort of flow. I've had similar discussions with people about movies like Philadelphia - another movie that dealt in a controversial and important topic, but felt the need to beat us over the head with its points instead of letting us think for ourselves. The Constant Gardener - same thing (though that movie had some truly excellent dialogue and characters to help soften the plot blows).
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) One more idea to chew on for those who think Ross Gload just made the team... The Sox could always switch plans now and keep 12 pitchers with Thornton making the team. That's a good point actually, which I didn't mention in my last post. That is possible. But with so many days off early on, and BMac in the pen, I don't see it happening.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) I'm sorry, but I will be absolutely shocked if they start Sweeney's arbitration clock already, entirely based on his performance this spring, when he's still only spent 1 year at AA, is still very young, and still has a lot of development to do. You're right on the Gload thing...but if anyone surprising winds up tagging along, it will not be Sweeney. Gload's looked pretty decent defensively in the corner OF positions this spring, and I'm willing to be his hustle thus far has earned him some Ozzie points. If we need a CF, Mack and Pods are both capable of backing up (though you wouldn't want to start either one out there). Blakely and Sweeney will need more minors time, and Grieve has been useless. Put all that together, and there isn't anyone in camp who has a shot other than Gload. Only way its someone else now is if a trade occurs (which is a possibility).
  9. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) The park is filled with about 30% tourists, 30% casual/Corp. Cub fans who couldn't tell you what number Ron Santo wore and 30% real baseball fans. The other 10% are crack pots like Ronny 'Woo Woo' Wickers. I wouldn't include Woo as a real fan or even a casual one because when he goes to Wrigley, he goes to work. His job is... sponging off of Cub Fans. Cash, dental work, a movie deal... whatever he can get. I respect the real Cub fans. They know their baseball and know that this year's team is going no where fast. The Sox winning the WS and the lack of response from Cub management for the 2006 season has these fans seriously depressed. When it was the Sox, BoSox and the Cubs with nearly a century of futility, they could live with it. But now, they feel extremely lonely in the crowd of 40k that attend each game. The Trib put in 2100 seats when they should have put in pitchers, hitters, and a new manager. They scalp their own tickets. As a franchise, the club is a disgrace to it’s fans and the city I love. Wrigley is a great place to watch a baseball game… cold beer, decent food and something to do after the game is over. But I will leave that for the tourists and those who play hooky from work for a summer’s afternoon. I would rather see my team win. I agree with everything in this post.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) You are kidding right? Do you really think the White Sox would have a near $100 million payroll without the attendance bump they are looking at for 2006? If you had it your way, we would still be looking at a $75 million payroll and wondering how Ross Gload could replace Paul Konerko, and musing about how we could have had Jim Thome if the Sox were willing to pay him. I love seeing the full park, because it means that Kenny Williams has a much bigger checkbook to work with, vs being so self-absorbed as to care about my inconvience at the ballpark. Sorry winning is just way more important than long lines at the bathrooms for me. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Whatever you do, don't look at Thornton's ST numbers. :puke I guess the Sox just wanted to get something for Borchard and hope maybe this dude can find his control in the minors and possibly help the team later in the season. His ST numbers don't so-much show a control problem - looks like he got hit around a LOT. Sounds like there is no life in his strikes.
  12. This is pretty much what some of us predicted. But I guess I was hoping the Sox would throw in another prospect and get a slightly better reliever. Oh well. Low risk high reward, as was said already. And Borch is no great loss. Gload is the better choice for 25th man anyway, and he would have netted even less than Borch in a trade.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) I thought Thome has actually scored from first on one or two doubles this spring. Thome has scored from 1st on a double, has hit a triple, and has at least one infield single.
  14. Ya know, people have harped on Gload's play in the outfield... But Borch made yet another error just now on a fly ball, and so far this spring, he has looked downright lost out there in the OF.
  15. And one for Borch. Tries to de-shin the pitcher, infield single.
  16. So, this season, Thome has had... a triple an infield hit scored from 1st on a double Thome with the wheels.
  17. Nice. Grounder to second, hard play, infield hit for Thome. Cintron scores from 2nd on the bobble by the Cubs 1B. 2-1 Sox.
  18. And Cintron with almost the same spot, another double down the line. Ozuna scores. 1-0 Sox!
  19. Sweet! Ozuna with a leadoff double down the left field line.
  20. I'll try to keep doing this PBP, if anyone wants it. Anyone want it, or do you all have the game on TV anyway?
