Boone Logan to start in the majors?...
NorthSideSox72 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) I also remember the Sox calling up an A ball pitcher during the season who turned out to be a pretty decent pitcher upon arrival. Scott Radinski. Radinsky was a darn good setup guy for a couple years, if I recall correctly. Now I am curious what happened to that dude. I'll have to look that up. -
Feingold calls for Presidential Censure.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) It's grandstanding. Nothing more. The only relevance that should be taken into consideration is the fact that he did it only to advance his own agenda, as he knew it was going nowhere. Honestly, if a person has a strong belief in an issue that he/she knows won't go anywhere... I am OK with a little grandstanding on their part. Such a move only bothers me if it is counter to that person's real agenda, which then makes them dishonest. And before anyone else says it, yes, I realize that "dishonest" is a relative term when referring to members of Congress. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) They have the right to go home. If they cross the border again, they have the right to remain silent. Anything they say may be used against them in a court of law. They have the right to an attorney ..... And in the case of a person being arrested, if they have a medical emergency, the state must get them treated. So I think the same could be said here. I agree with this law on the whole (illegal immigrants are criminals by definition), but as far as preventing Doctors from rendering care, I think that is counterproductive and inhumane. Remove that part, and I am OK with the rest of it (the parts I am familiar with).

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) It's a political stunt because Feingold has presidential aspirations. It's not about the Democratic party, it's about Feingold. Oh I have no doubt that it is about Feingold and not the party. And yeah, that may be selfish. But I also do see indications here that he is trying to make a statement, and that is not an entirely bad thing - even if it is related to his Presidential aspirations. It is not as if he is flip-flopping for that purpose; he has been against this all along, as far as I know. -
Who's Hot Or Not: Spring Training Edition

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Borch is a very solid defender, he's having a subpar defensived spring but that's what spring training is for. Gotcha. Like I said, I haven't seen him play much 'D' before this spring. I saw Gload crashed into the wall in LF yesterday chasing a ball, knocking himself out briefly. I didn't get to see the replay, so I don't even know if he caught the ball. I think those two are pushing pretty hard - as they should be. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) I noticed that. Saying that Borchard is pretty much a DH instead of a solid defensive outfielder is a bit of a stretch. He plays good defense in the corners and can even play some CF. He has decent speed, range, and a strong arm. Borch has some great tools, but I have seen him bumble more than one fly ball in the OF this spring. I wouldn't exactly call him a solid defender. But then, we have only seen a few games in ST, and aren't seeing the out-of-game work they are putting in, so perhaps that is a skewed view. -

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) If you haven't had a chance, please listen to Feingold's introduction of the resolution. It is very articulate and thought out. It lists some of the bipartisan displeasure over the spying program, chronicles several occassions the president had previously publicly stated that warrants were required to conduct domestic surveilance, and reminds us that the Founding Fathers foresaw that presidents would overstep their bounds and that it was the responsibility of the remaining branches of government to rebuke (at the very least) in such instances. The pathetic lack of support the resolution is getting from the rest of the Dems indicates this is no political slam dunk. But it is, in Feingold's mind, the moral high road and his obligation. How many Dem Senators are now saying how they wished they had the courage Feingold had when he alone opposed the Patriot Act? How many of these pathetic clowns are going to say the same thing about wishing they too had stood up to censure the president a year down the line? His conviction and commitment to what he believes in suggests this is not just a stunt. He stood alone to oppose the Patriot Act. He stood with a small minority in opposing the Iraq War Resolution. Now he again stands nearly alone in admonishing the president for exceeding the power granted the office. Those are all good points. And on further review, I do agree that Feingold probably does believe in this. He went against most of his own party to do it. So perhaps it was too harsh to call it a stunt. And I do happen to agree that Bush broke the law. But, I am not sure a censure is warranted. That is a pretty harsh penalty. What is needed is review in a courtroom, in the judicial branch (not some B.S. Congressional thing), of the legality of a specific act. I just don't know if that will happen. -
The primaries in Illinois for a number of offices are being held a week from today. Offices on the ballot: http://www.elections.il.gov/ElectionInform...esNomElect.aspx Also, Illinois now has some early voting capabilities for primaries and the general election in November. Here is a link to early voting rules, dates (open through March 16th) and sites in the city of Chicago: http://chicagoelections.com/EarlyVoting.htm For other IL jurisdictions, go to: http://www.elections.il.gov/VotingInformat...gLocations.aspx So listen, all you 'buster posters... take that energy you put into arguing here, and put it to its best use.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Almost alone even among the GOP, Frist goes so far as to refer to the NSA wiretaps as “a very good lawful constitutional program.” When did Billl Frist become a Constitutional scholar? Circle the wagons and protect the administration and the GOP power base at all costs, that's the only thing Frist is an expert on. He is completely lacking in moral fiber. Unlike some of the GOP "moderates" who at least claimed they were going to support a Congressional investigation before they crumbled under pressure from others in the part and thinly veiled threats from the White House. But that didn't mean that these Senators wouldn't have signed on to a censure resolution after a period of informed debate. And that informed debate is precisely the thing that Frist wanted to preempt by calling for a vote prematurely. Congress, particularly the Senate, is supposed to be a deliberative body that actually discusses the issues before bringing them to a vote. Alas, much in the manner the twisted GOP-worded version of the "Murtha resolution" was brought to a vote prematurely, Frist yesterday was making damn sure nobody had any time to consider it before being asked to vote. Who's the one pulling the political stunt again? That would be both of them. -
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Chicago has just as many people from Poland than Poland itself... and most are illegal. They are just here to work... just a example. Huh? Poland has tens of millions of people. The Chicago metro area has 8 million. Your hyperbole is laughable. And to say they are mostly here illegally is pretty unbelievable. They have to fly here or come in ships, and that is a lot harder than walking across a border. I think perhaps you were driving at the famous Chicago Polish stat - Chicago is the second largest Polish city on earth. That one is actually true.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 02:28 AM) My friend took the picture with me standing there looking on. I can tell you with 100 percent confidence that it's real. OK then. Must have been the paint job that was crooked.

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Rogowski up. 1 out. Runners on 1st and 2nd - Thome reached on a squibber to the left side for an infield single - wild pitch - now runners on second and third - Owens running for Thome. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) HA, and I incorrectly used 'choir' in place of 'chore' in another thread. Was called out, of course. I supose this is what happens when I devote more than 10 posts in one day to Soxtalk. I expose my weaknesses in verb usuage, grammar, AND baseball knowledge. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Just playin' around.

Looks like a photoshop job to me. The word LATINO doesn't look the same as EXPRESS in size or angle, and the area around LATINO is the only part of the bus that is clean looking.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) borchard showed off some LTP POWER and hit a 3 run HR... then valido hit a solo shot score is TIED 7 - 7 white sox still up in the bottom of the 8th Nice!
-
I can see the game line on Yahoo, but that's it. No box score or inning summaries or any of that.

Looks like the Sox scored twice in the 7th, its now 7-2 OAK through 7. Anyone have any idea how we scored?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Thus far, it's been a choir retiring other teams minor league talent. I heard music when he pitched alright. A requiem, I believe.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) Here's a legit question I have for you: Does Gload have any trade value? He seems more to me like minor league guys who are a dime a dozen, and often switch teams in the offseason. If KW could get value for Gload, I'd be thoroughly impressed. He has proven he can hit major league pitching, which is more than can be said for Borch.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Borchard and/or Gload plus some low level prospect for a relief pitcher before opening day. Lunch at the chinese place says I'm right. Agreed. One of them will get traded, the other makes the roster. Its a matter of who the other team wants of the two.
-
Haeger just doesn't seem to have any kind of command in the games he has pitched this spring. He's all over the place.
-
QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) after a BB 1 out, chavez up with runners on 1st and 2nd Who is pitching for the Sox?
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) There was no "badgering" involved. It was simply an attempt to get an idea of one's situation, when said situation almost certainly influences that person's stance on a particular issue. You asked twice, in a negative tone, about a poster's age and employment. Then you belittled them because of their age and marital status. It makes it hard to have a reasonable discussion with you when you do things like that.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) Jack squat will happen until either the Delay trial starts or there are more abramoff indictments handed down. Until then, they're all too happy to ignore it. I agree. This will turn out to be a very difficult issue. As I mentioned a while back, this is something not really accounted for in the Constitution. The checks against the legislative branch don't really amount to regulation, which is what is needed here. I forget - is OMB the Congressional body, or executive body? I always forget which of those internal audit departments fall where. Whatever the executive one is, should perhaps be given a lead role in this.

Showing us yet again that Congress cannot be trusted to police itself: http://story.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060313/...congress_ethics This "distraction" is complete horse manure. This is supposedly high priority. They are making themselves look like idiots.
