  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) Disagree. The main reason why that won't be even possible is that the Federal Reserve is likely to be very aggressive in preventing it...and they have an enormous amount of room to move in that direction without even raising rates, just by selling off the stuff it took onto its balance sheet. If there is an inflation spike, it won't be driven by the amount of "Money" generated during the crisis or by the size of the deficits, it's going to be generated by energy costs. Let's see what happens in 2-3 years. Now, to be clear, I am not saying its going to be like the early 80's or anything. We won't see 14% mortgages. Too much headroom to work with, as you mention. But I will not at all be surprised when its spiking to 5-6%, the Fed acts, and all that does is stabilize it in that range. And I know you like to focus on energy, but energy is just one piece of the puzzle. The amount of cash being put into the economy, as well as other factors, all play in. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) This isn't true at all. Way to character assassinate someone who disagrees with most of your financial opinions, though, and then have your lackeys agree with a simple minded, "oh, I know...", load of s***. I know a LOT about finance. More than most of you ever will. But I know, my "anecdotal" evidence of rising prices isn't real -- because a chart says so. The fact that you guys believe I'm wrong, and prices have not risen (if I'm wrong and you are right, they haven't), shows how stupid and absolutely retarded both of you are in regard to finance... Prices HAVE risen, prices ARE rising. I wasn't criticizing your viewpoint that inflation may be higher than those stats show - I was criticizing your method of doing so. And your last line is exactly why. People here provide you with data, you respond with, more or less "all charts and numbers are made up", and then throw out a 100% unfounded conjecture. That's the big glass parking lot. And if you know so much about finance, how about you illustrate for us, instead of throwing out statements with no support whatsoever.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) My point was we allow our favorite sports stars to get away with this exact sort of behavior and rarely think anything of it, but since this specific instance of it (Military involvement) is brought up all the time, it's a big deal. Point is, it's happening everywhere, not just the military. 1. If that's your point, maybe say that, instead of saying my statement is meaningless, when in truth its just a different point of view. 2. I personally don't see why one would decide to just throw up their hands and give up on making a positive change, simply because its not complete and total.
  3. By the way, on inflation... while its very low now, that will not last. Give it a couple years, and we will be seeing big inflation numbers.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) Statistics/data sampling & analysis > anecdotes. Don't bother, Y2HH has mastered the big glass parking lot method of discussion. All charts, statistics, and actual data is useless. All that matters is anecdotal experiences.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Wasn't trolling. So calling me a troll is the same as me telling you to STFU. OK, let's just both drop it then.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) No, it's a reason that saying things like "people need to grow up" means nothing, though. Means everything to me. Feel free to not care though, doesn't matter to me. This is a step in a maturation process in society, I am just expressing my desire for that process to go as quickly as possible.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) I agree, but you said people need to grow up...and that's not really making a point. My counter was people need to do a lot of things, and it doesn't mean they will. There are laws against murder. But it still happens...all the time. So that's a reason to not have laws against murder?
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) People need to do a lot of things, doesn't mean they will. Whether it be right or wrong is irrelevant. To start a quick list: People need to stop murdering each other. People need to stop raping women/children (or even men). And I could use a few hundred million dollars, too. lol wut? People in the military who are closed minded about this have a choice. They can act like idiots, or they can get over it. I don't really care which they do, just that they are punished if idiocy becomes illegal acts. So yeah, they will, one way or another, which is how it should be. The military as a whole will mature and adjust.
  9. People just need to grow the f*** up. These same arguments were used upon racial integration of the military, and no doubt there was plenty of problems it caused. Probably still some now. Doesn't mean its right, or that its a valid reason to promote organized bigotry.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) I don't give 2 s***s about the short-term deficit. And the long term?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) IF you don't give 2 s***s about the deficit. Sort of. And you are missing the point of what I said, in favor of going after something I didn't. I did not say I liked every part of the bill, in fact I specifically said I didn't. The estate tax changes and the breaks for the uber-rich were unnecessary and will do nothing to help the economy. But, the other tax cuts, the payroll tax cut, and the UE extension are all good policy. And just curious, which side of this deficit issue are you on? Because I seem to recall you calling for like $3T in direct stimulus spending.
  12. Its really too bad that will all this sudden progress Congress is making in the lame duck session, we couldn't have also gotten a decent energy bill passed. Because once the GOP takes control, we will see nothing of the sort.
  13. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) I don't think it's the cold that is a worry, it's the rock hard surface of a frozen turf field. It's like playing football on a concrete field. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) I'm amazed how many people don't realize this. Even with pads. I fully realize what frozen ground feels like, and that the ground is much harder. Still doesn't change my view. You are playing football in December. No one likes it of course. But if you think you should somehow never have to do that, you shouldn't be playing professional football.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) For that reason alone, the tax deal is not nearly the s*** sandwich everyone thought it was. Everyone dislikes something about it, but it was really a decent compromise.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Ozzie Guillen always uses his LOOGY's more as mop-up guys than as guys to get lefties out. Randy Williams faced more righties than lefties last year, and only 6 more lefties than righties in 2009. Threets faced 27 righties and 14 lefties before he got hurt. Boone Logan in 2008 faced 110 lefties and 87 righties. He also has had a couple ROOGY-like guys, and mishandled them too. Ozzie cannot be given any sort of highly unbalanced xOOGY, because he will misuse him. It wasnt' so bad with Threets because when he's on, he can actually get some righties out. But some other guys, would be a disaster.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:44 AM) Looks like the pansy punter doesn't want to play in the chilly air. Its been so annoying reading the complaints from players. You... play... FOOTBALL. Its a winter sport, its been played outdoors in cold conditions for decades, and you get paid stupid money to do it. Shut up and play.
  17. I just use whatever is convenient. But I do wish they'd make those urinal spaces wider. In our office at work, I'm literally shoulder-to-shoulder in the barriers, which means I'm leaning on some other guy's shoulder if there is someone in the next stall.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) One idea was to remove the credit for mortgages over $500k. I could go with that. People who are in that Jumbo loan (>417k) territory aren't going to rent anyway for their primary residence, so you have no real discouragement factor or lowering of demand. Maybe would make people near the margin use more cash to buy, but that's ultimately healthier for the economy anyway.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) They should consider a 2 year freeze on federal student loan payments. If I had an extra 1200k (what my wife and I spend collectively every month), i'd sure as hell be spending a lot more on goods/services. I'm guessing such a plan would be hugely expensive for the government though. The big hot topic right now is the possibility of removing the mortgage interest deduction on taxes. Seems to me that's a pretty stupid move, I'd rather they got away from the deduction on other things first that wouldn't do as much direct damage to the economy. For example, the health care cost deductions - the demand curve is nearly inflexible anyway, and you don't necessarily want to encourage its use.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) Desean Jackson annoys the f*** out of me with his pre-TD douchery... cross the f***in' goal line dude, then you can do whatever you want. Isn't Jackson the same dumbass that fumbled at the 10 because he started celebrating early? I still love that film of Steve Largent hitting, I think, Deion Sanders, when Sanders/whoever was showboating after an interception before he reached the end zone.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) Holy F***, this really happened? There have been a few of those lately. People here seemed 100% convinced that DADT would not be touched too. This lame duck Congress has been getting a lot of things done.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 07:51 AM) I got it after a second. 1. AHB's preacher said something silly and was commented on it for it. 2. Barack Obama's old preacher's sermon is immediately relevant. 3. Quote one of the funny sounding lines from Barack Obama's old preacher. 4. Socialism averted foreva! QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) It was from Rev. Wright. I believe the sermon was about how America's foreign policy was (at least partially) to blame for 9/11. Sort of like "reap the seeds you sow." Interesting. Kaperbole's posts are like modern art made from material from the recycle bin. Yeah its garbage, but there's a certain artistic quality to them that's almost hypnotic.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) The chickenssssssssssss are a comin' home to rooooosssssssst. What does this even mean?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) So does anyone out there have, or have had, a TrailBlazer or a Vue? Let's hear comments if you have! Owned a Vue, I think it was a 2004, but it was the version that had the Honda-built Red Line V6 engine in it. Overall we liked it a lot. It was surprisingly fast and quick for a decent sized SUV, that 260 hp engine was made for larger SUV's so it got off the line in a hurry (but make sure you have a good grip on the wheel if you gun it to pass on the highway, it torque-steers a little bit). Space was great, it was very reliable, came equiped with some nice features and the standard tires were above average. Ours was AWD too, that was good in Chicago. Bad parts - lousy mileage (we averaged like 17-19), and the interior components were plastic-y and a little chintzy/easy to break. And one other thing endemic to pretty much all Saturn products - interior noise is too high, which gets annoying. Otherwise we liked it a lot. Ended up replacing it with a Ford Escape Hybrid, which is slower and a little smaller, but better build quality and way, way better mileage (average about 31 mpg).
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Any idea what kind of terms? Yankee terms.
