QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Is it really? I mean... ya'll are SO concerned about the wealthy and their tax rates, why don't they just give it to the government? It would reduce the deficit, and we are all learning about how much better the government can put money where it needs to go so much more efficiently then these charitable organizations can do, right? Or, another angle, if you'd like... you mean these people get to CHOOSE where their money goes? The government can't take it away from them? Really? Think about the ironly here a little. I assume this was not really directed towards me, because I'm pretty sure I have not been advocating taxing the rich into oblivion. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) I have a friend who is in the financial field in Chicago and he thinks it'll be 2 more years before the economy even starts to turn around for the better. I have a question: A.) Do you believe this? And B.) Why isn't the economy a national crisis issue. This issue needs to be ATTACKED as much as the terror issue and all other SERIOUS issues. WTF? People are outta work. A.) Every indication has been that the economy has been in recovery for a year or more, but more importantly, has begun to recover in a mroe meaningful way in the past few months. So it depends on what your friend means. If he really thinks it will be 2 years before it "even starts to turn around for the better", then your friend needs to keep up with the news a little better, because that's been happening for a while. If he/she means it will be 2 years before unemployment is substantially better, then I agree. B.) It IS a national crisis issue, what indication have you see that its not?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Cowley's an idiot and Klaw rating the Crawford signing as an A+ and Paulie as a D is idiotic too. Keith Law knows baseball but, for reasons no one seems sure of, has had a consistent pattern of being ridiculously negative about the Sox specifically. No idea why. Cowley is just useless, he can't decide if he's a really bad reporter or a columnist trying to become Jay Mariotti.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Cowley - I love how Trib columnist-by-default continues to pretend he knows what he's talking about with his "sources.'' Clean the pool, junior. I thought it was funny that he was mocking Phil Rogers for getting info wrong, so I replied to the tweet..... Me - @cst_sox By the way, good call on the Konerko ship-sailing. Would have been nice to bring him back. I hope Plan B and C work out! Then he said.... Cowley - @JoeCoolMan24 I believe the S-Times was the only media outlet that had the story last night that despite what KW said, JR wanted it done. and then.... Cowley - @JoeCoolMan24 News is fluid - you are either covering as it happens and as it changes or you cover it after the fact. I do it the first way. He replied to me within minutes it seemed. LOL, yeah, because "the ship has sailed" was "news".

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Country borken. This sounds like a bad adult film title.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) I'd be willing to bet you that at least a player or two have posted on here before too. We've had players, though mostly minor leaguers, post. And many more read. Also family members of players and minor leaguers. People in the Sox org also read here, though I don't believe anyone currently working for the team will actually be posting.

I can tell you that there are multiple Chicago journalists and columnists who read, and even occasionally post, on SoxTalk.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Here's something Obama should have learned from previous administrations. You can't assume that the Democrats will fall in line lockstep to anything its leadership asks. Especially if you decide to try to force through a "compromise" without inviting Democratic Congressional leadership. In the eyes of the Dem house caucus it is utterly disrespectful, especially given all the heavy lifting they've done over the past two years to Obama's legislative agenda. They feel punished for doing everything Obama has asked of them in the last two years, and if I was in the house leadership, I could see why I would want to do this too. This will pass, but the House Dems need their fingerprints on some of this too. You know, I agree with them taking a stand on this, but the idea that they have done everything Obama has wanted is just silly. Things like the Health Care bill, the Stim bill, were massively different than what Obama had wanted.

Dems show their ferociously cute balls off by rejecting the Obama tax compromise via voice vote in the house - preventing it from going to the floor as-is.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) His success rate in stealing last year was 79%, and if I'm not mistaken, the threshold for being a good stealer is 80%. So from that perspective, he was fairly effective at the craft of stealing bases last year, especially given that he accomplished the feat more than anyone else in the league. Couple that with the very good defense he featured in left field, and I hardly think we have a "terrible" player on our hands here. Great, no. Good, probably not. Decent, probably. Terrible, no. I would save the terrible label for a guy like Teahen, who for the most part is below average in almost every aspect of the game. He's not terrible, J4L has stated before his hatred of the player known as Juan Pierre is beyond logic. We all have players like that I think.
