QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) If anyone could find a link to the "morality" clause, id love to see it. I tried to find it on the HOF website but could not, which is why I quoted what the HOF says are the eligibility requirements. I also quoted why Rose and Jackson were not in HOF and there was no mention of a morality clause. I have heard people mention it time and time again, but I have never seen the actual language so that I can read it for myself. Yes I am a lawyer, and as a lawyer I do not try and comment on rules that I have never seen nor can seem to find. http://assets.espn.go.com/mlb/s/2002/1210/1474784.html I dont know when this article is from but: So far I have tried my best to find the clause and have been unsuccessful. Until some one actually quotes me the clause, I cant really comment on whether or not Bonds or any other player should be kept out because of it. Have any of you actually seen this clause? I see it more commonly referred to as a "Character" clause, and here is the voting guideline, from the HOF website: Note the words integrity, sportsmanship, and character. That is 3 of the 6 conditions mentioned, half if you will, that are related to a player's non-performance conduct. It is quite clear the HoF intends to have character be part of the picture. And that is something I like about baseball's HoF, as opposed to other sports.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) I don't think Pelosi is stupid, but she is hyperpartisan. She can't say or do anything without pointing fingers at or attempting to call out some Republican, somewhere. I don't think I said she was stupid (if I did, I misspoke), I said the CHOICE of her for that role was stupid.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) If the Sox home games are sold out, don't forget you can also go to games at other teams' stadiums. If you have a car none of them should be too long of a trip, since I'm pretty sure everyone in the cactus league is now in the Phoenix area. I believe COL and ARZ are still in Tucson. But yes, good point, you can certainly find tickets to Sox games at other stadiums as well.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Yea, she wants "stimulus" all right. Dumb b****. I seriously hate her just about as bad as anyone in Washington. And before someone says I'm being sexist, Harry Reid is a dumb b**** too. Seriously, the Dems can't do any better for leaders of their parties? Obama's ok, I disagree with him, but at least he's intelligent. I said that at the time they were chosen. The Dems shot themselves in both feet when they chose those two to run things in Congress, particularly Reid. There were better choices available. Heck, most of the caucus in both chambers would have been better choices. Reid is as scuzzy and dishonest as can be.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) No, I am not. In USA, the sky is the limit. You are responsible for your own decisions and mistakes. Let's not blame others for our own shortcomings. Some people are lazy. However, the idea that anyone making less than 30k MUST be doing so because they aren't trying hard enough is, as BS said, utterly ridiculous.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 07:59 AM) It's my first spring training living in Arizona. I have never been to Spring Training before and I was curious as to how difficult it is to buy tickets day of game at the park. How often do games sell out? Thanks. The normal rules don't apply this year, because they have a brand new facility (in Glendale). It will be more popular, which may may it more difficult to get them. But its also bigger, so, maybe not? But I do not know. Some games, like against the Cubs, will sell out the day they go on sale. Other games, at least when they were in Tucson, you could walk up. If I were you, if you want to go, I'd buy in advance.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 08:15 AM) It's a personality disorder--Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Typical characteristics: exaggerated sense of self-importance, exploitative attitude, lack of empathy, excessive need for attention and admiration, a strong sense of entitlement, arrogance, and difficulty in accepting personal criticism. Sounds about right for Blago. -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 06:16 AM) Mike Sweeney signed a minor league deal with the Mariners Juan Uribe signed a minor league deal with the Giants Russ Springer signed a 1 year deal with the A's Let me be a mod for this thread. I'll fix it this weekend, if Kalapse doesn't first. That's a good find for Seattle - Sweeney, if he can be healthy, is a pretty big bat. Getting him on a minor league deal is a steal. Their new GM is doing some interesting stuff.

QUOTE (Steff @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 07:39 AM) I seriously think he suffers from MPD. He is just all over the place. Worse than a 6 year old after 2 bags of cotton candy. I feel so bad for his daughters. Talking to a couple psychologists in the family, the common diagnosis is Narcissism. Apaprently, one can be clinically narcissistic. He is completely oblivious to any reality which doesn't make him loved by everyone. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) Then you're a stupid independant contractor. Hey man, some independent contractors don't need an office or many supplies. Prostitutes, for example.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) "The fix was in" "Will you still cover me if I have something to say, or is this the last hurrah?" Thanks Gov. In Texas, when we have a s***ty Governor, we get him a new job in Washington . . . The best part of that media part was that this line: "If I have something to say, will you show up, if I want you to? Because I have a lot to say" Was followed in less than 60 seconds by: "See, you guys in the media don't get it, but then I guess that's just the way you are" That is effing golden. -

Did anyone see the interview with Blago after the vote, in front of his house? Truly, one of the most spectacularly bizarre pieces of politcal theater I've ever seen. Just awesome. I particularly loved "Say it ain't so!" kid that Blago dragged in front of the camera. -
Hopefully he gets successfully prosecuted for perjury, which will probably be enough to keep his cowardly ass out of the Hall of Fame. That will be a happy day.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) we shall see. i would definitely like to see some major changes, but the Republicans aren't in charge and i wouldn't expect to see major changes. i could be wrong. In the Senate with cloture rules, they need at least a couple cross-overs. I think they will ensure that with a few tasty tax cuts.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/christ...-twins-on-hold/ Crede is frickin nuts if he thinks he is getting a better base salary then he did last year plus incentives He might get around that, for a 1 year deal. But he won't get a second year, IMO.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I think it needs 60 votes (I'm not sure what's going on with the second MN seat or if that counts or makes it 59 needed instead). I think all of the 58 in the Dem caucus should vote for it, they need at least a couple Republicans to pass it which will probably happen, I don't think the opposition in the Senate is as hard as it is in the House from the Republicans. I'm sure Obama would rather it pass with 70 yeas than barely scraping by though, the question is whether it actually does pass comfortably. The Senate will pass a different bill, with some more GOP-friendly provisions, to clear the 60 with room to spare. The House will then pass that version, then Obama will sign.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Isn't the idea that Blago couldn't call his own witnesses a lie he made up? Yes. He was asked to appear and to bring witnesses, which he turned down, saying he didn't have enough time. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) So does anyone have a clue if Blago can appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Illinois? I read Article 4, Section 14 but it has no process for appeals. There is also no discussion of due process or the procedural aspects of the impeachment. Could there be an appeal based on the fact that Blago was denied due process when he could not bring in his own witnesses? His argument would rely primarily on the Illinois Constitution, specifically: Would an impeachment conviction be depriving him of life, liberty or property? Here is what the annotated Article 4, section 14 says: http://www.ilga.gov/commission/lru/ILConstitution.pdf So perhaps the 1997 rules are what they followed. Impeachment is a legislative action, not a criminal trial. There is nothing to appeal. -

Apparently, Blago has finished his statement, at 11:53am. He is apparently now going to hurry off to his state plane, to fly back home before the results, to avoid "plane issues". -

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Good question. See, now Blago is babbling once again about all the great things he's done for the people of Illinois. This is where he loses all cred. Not because he hasn't accomplished those things, but because he comes across as missing the point. Because he IS missing the point. And further, he has been a stupendously bad governor - 9% approval BEFORE the arrest? -
