QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) First, I'm a love sick puppy and now I'm some podunk. Sorry Mr. CC, trying too hard to shorten my typing. I am sure you are quite urbane. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Having gone through a state school as an undergrad, I think there's more than a few people who went through IU who couldn't answer that question. Just some of the memories I have, like the person in biology who said that we shouldn't care about any of this because the sun is just going to expand and destroy the earth anyway. Or the existence of math 001, which was basically the math I did in 7th grade. How do those people get INTO college? And not just some podunk CC, but a state flagship school? -
Behind the Scenes of the Campaigns

So basically, we're discussing that there is now more evidence of what most people already knew - that Palin was a disaster of a pick, and that she clearly wasn't ready for the world stage. Nothing new to see here. I do agree with others who have said that McCain allowed his campaign to take on too much life without him. His campaign was not him, especially the last couple months. Not that that is a defense of McCain, because, that's not a real good indicator of how he'd run an administration. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) The Shift: So basically, McCain did better than Bush in the Mid-South and Appalachia. Plus of course AZ and AK, but those are candidate-specific effects.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Poreda's velocity may be down because he is working on a split-finger or sinker which they are classifying as fastball. I say this because his groundball to flyball out ratio is now 5 to 1 Wow, that's nice to see.

Black Panthers + Night Sticks = Voter Intimidation

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Egging on stuff? OK, if that is egging someone on, please feel free to have me suspended. If I have broke the rules, I have no problem paying the price. I see no eggs. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) Is that good or bad? Dimon took over Bank One (now Chase) somewhat reluctantly, and made a lot of changes that worked well. Also, JPM Chase is probably the least scathed by the financial crush, which says something. I'd say he's a solid choice.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) This is a messed up opinion and one that I don't think is shared by many others. I doubt its even his real opinion. He's just egging people on. Otherwise, someone who actually thinks that ethics and some degree of morality are not part of life, is a sociopath. -
Thank you, Senator McCain. Your concession speech was class exemplified. In a GOP primary field full of wingbat social crusaders, you were a voice of reason. Your long service to this country and your courage and bravery are nearly unparalleled in the modern age. I hope that you will indeed be involved in Obama's decisionmaking processes, and I am cnofident that the more centrist, less party-dictated version of you will come back to the Senate. Congratulations on a hard fought election. I never had the slightest doubt about your desire to do what you thought was best for the country.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) For those that feel popular vote is always the best way to go... I give you Exhibit 8. There does need to be a consideration of minority opinion, especially when it is over the rights of a very few. I'll truely believe if they tried to popular vote other minority rights, such as womens/black vote, it would have lost decidely for much longer than it took Congress to get it right. That's my feeling as well. When talking about protecting the rights of a minority, popular vote really isn't the answer.

As of right now, the house count (per CNN) is 253 Dem, 172 GOP, and 10 still undecided. If the Dems get 8 of the remaining 10, they'd have exactly 60% control. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Rocky Mountain News is calling Colorado for Obama RMN is a garbage paper. But I am sure Obama probably will take CO.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) Lady toucher. That's the skeleton I was referring to. If the couple known incidents (which in themselves weren't big) were just the surface, and he had lady issues... that would have done it.

Well, I'm proud of our country for the high turnout levels this year. Great to see.

NC, VA and FL all running very close. But Ohio is called by Fox, and CNN seems to be hinting they are ready to project it too.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) Most places have called it for him. CNN seems to be a bit more cautious, and that is what I am watching. Interesting that 2 Udalls (cousins) will be in the Senate now. -

The Colorado Udall (the New Mexico one already won) has a pretty big lead so far. -
CNN calls WV for McCain, though it looks like a closer race than you might have thought.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Out of the options Senator Obama had available to him, Senator Biden was almost certainly the right pick (assuming Richardson and Clinton were either uninterested our out for various reasons), and I can understand why RSO (see, I'm in the Republican thread, I'm using it too!) would want his voice around a table discussing issues, but I really don't want to see him in the big chair either. I still think Richardson was a better pick, unless they found something in his closet during vetting. Which may very well be the case.
