  1. Quentin and Wassermann were both at the game. I'd go with Crede, MacDougal, H Ramirez and Logan.
  2. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) so, the way Palin talks (albeit overdone) hasn't been made fun of....which believe it or not, millions of americans talk in funny sounding ways. Again, zero to do with sexism. Feel free to call it stupidism. And she intentionally hams it up.
  3. So, here is something to consider... I brought up here, a while back, what I considered the 2 X-factors on election day. In Obama's favor was the turnout and ground machine game. In McCain's favor was fear of the unknown driving some people to vote for him at the last second. Now that Palin is out there for all to see, I think interestingly, this will partially neutralize that factor that would have helped McCain. Palin scares some people the same way Obama does - lack of experience, unknown person, different race/gender. I think this VP choice will backfire for McCain even more than we are seeing in the polls.
  4. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Palin is an overly assertive b**** McCain is too old Republicans are rednecks don't act like that's not going on right now. read the posts, go on facebook, etc. I don't see posts in here saying any of those things. Palin isn't assertive anyway - she asserts nothing. The only one of those three things I've seen brought up here is McCain's age. And MOST of us aren't saying its an issue of his ability to lead - its his ability to stay alive. And that is a real issue to consider. Not a dealbreaker IMO, but, at his age, it does amplify the importantance of his VP candidate, who is just terrible.
  5. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) And I'm pissed that marriage is even regulated at all by the government. Marriage is a religious idea--civil unions are the legal idea. Let's leave marriage to the church. I agree. But that isn't going to happen, unfortunately.
  6. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) I love how it's ok to be sexist, bigoted, and ageist if it's not your candidate. huh?
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) I just dont get Palin supporters, and I want someone who is really into politics on this site to help me out. If god forbid something happens to McCain if elected, Palin is your pres, are you really comfortable with that? Do you really feel good about her talking about her Mayorship and hockey mom stories to foreign leaders? The VP has some large responsibilities worldwide and I, for one, dont feel that comfortable with her representing and making decisions for this country. The religious right types love her socially conservative stances, where she is further right than McCain. Some people probably fall for her folksy schtick, and think she's actually somehow a "Joe Six Pack". Yet others are simply interested in seeing an outsider in there. Palin is awful IMO, just to be clear. But I was trying to identify the reasons I've seen so far for why people like her.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Another part of the CBS poll I reference earlier said that 18% of those polled say they will now vote for Obama, 10% for McCain, and 71% were unsure. (there is a missing 1% in there in the decimals) So, I agree with you. OK, I didn't notice the details of this earlier. So among undecideds, 18% broke for Obama, 10% for McCain. That said, here is my scorecard on the debate: Performance vs Expectations: Palin wins Overall Performance: Biden wins Material effect on election: small win for Obama
  9. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) I personally dont think Palin won the debate. However, I dont think Obama won his debate either, but since he was only supposed to hold his own pretty much everyone on here called it a win for him. Going by those standards you could say Palin won too because Bidens performance didnt wow anybody similar to how McCains didnt. What bothered me about Palin last night is she never called out Biden on his BS. He was at the point where he was making things up to prove points and she didnt know the facts to question it. Like when they talked about cutting funds for troops and Biden said McCain voted the same way Obama did, which isnt true. I wish the debate was less about defending the Presidential candidates voting history and more about what they bring to the table. I think everyone who cares about politics enough to watch the debate probably had a pretty close idea of what each candidate was going to say on their answers just because we have heard all the arguments a million times. I heartily agree with most of your post. I don't think Biden was B.S.'ing any more than Palin though. I think the key thing to look at is, how did the undecideds and independents see it. I have yet to see that poll. But that's all that matters, really.
  10. This kind of thing could help spark the Sox in game 2.
  11. So, I haven't seen anything about this yet. No one knows who they are. It may not even be true.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) Seriously... I mean I know this sounds like an exaggeration, and it is, but not by much. CNN's poll says 84% of people thought she exceeded expectations... that tells you how low they were. I agree, Palin won the 'vs expectations' game here. But I'm also pretty sure that anyone on this board could have beaten those expectations.
  13. I'm not a big Biden fan. He's not awful, but he's no fave of mine. But having now, finally, gotten to see Sarah Palin on topic... she's awful. Just awful.
  14. QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Shot at Michelle. This woman is disgusting. Shot at Michelle Obama? I missed that.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) I'm pretty sure we learned today that her family has about $2.5 million in the bank. That probably does make her richer than Biden. Which frankly I could care less about, except that Palin keeps trying to act like poor folk.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) Palin's answer to the VP-branch question was just awful. And Biden drops the hammer. His best moment of the night.
  17. Palin's answer to the VP-branch question was just awful.
  18. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Sarah, You are a grown woman. Stop playing cute. It demeans us all. My wife just said something very similar.
  19. doggonit goshdarn betcha ohmy shoutout mainstreet seenow ohsee STOP THE PAIN.
  20. Big mistake bringing up the Alaska Permanent Fund by Palin. If Joe is smart, he'll bring up what the Perm Fund is - its oil money.
  21. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) I feel that too. Seriously. I've said before, and I believe it, McCain is NOT Bush. Sarah Palin, however, really is like an arctic female George W. Bush. The folksy, oh I'm Joe Six Pack spiel makes me ill. OK Joe, WTF is a "Bosniak"?
  22. QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) That and I honestly think she thinks we, the people, are stupid and that all that matters is Sunday hockey and soccer games. I don't trust her one bit at all. That's what I meant by condescending. AHHHH!!! STOP SAYING NUKE_U_LAR!!! Its like she's a female, Alaskan Dubya.
  23. QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) I did. I really really did. But she made it very hard. The combo of folksiness and condescending language is tough to swallow.
  24. Biden started slow, but I think he's gotten a bit ahead now. It was a tie game earlier to me, but not anymore.
