QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) I do know the point he was trying to make, though... So do I... the point that hate and fear are McCain's friends in this particular election, and he was using that to rile up the far-right base.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) Got an extra ticket! Section 530, Row 10 for Game 1 the ALDS. Wait, are they on sale right now?! I'm confused. I'm a partial holder, so we're going to get our tix in the mail (all ALDS, 1 ALCS, 1 WS), hopefully soon. But did you get an offer for extras? Or did you buy on a scalp site?

QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) if i read the above correctly, a tie would be broken by Cheney right??? Maybe i misread above. The Senate votes the VP tie, the House votes the Prez tie. So Cheney only breaks a VP tie in the Senate. And the house tie thing is really not going to happen anyway - the Dems are likely to add to their majority as it looks right now, not lose it. So the Pelosi thing is not going to happen. A 269-all tie will get you Obama/Palin.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) I don't know if you know what throwing across your body is, but it has nothing to do with which arm angle a pitcher uses. Throwing across your body means that your landing leg is ending up on your throwing side. So for a righty, their landing leg would end up on their right side, and vice versa for a lefty. The problem with this is because it often leads to a pitcher becomming off-balance, and can lead to added arm stress. Now, a lot of pitchers do throw across their body. But usually the pitchers with more velocity are more suspectable to injuries. Kerry Wood is a key example of this. Anyone who throws as hard as him while going across their body will get arm injuries no matter what. Gavin Floyd throws across his body, but because he isn't really a flame thrower, there's a much lesser chance for injuries. From what I've heard about Carter is that he has pretty decent velocity, and the fact he throws across his body scares me. Ah, I see. But Kerry Wood had elbow and shoulder problems, and as I have read elsewhere before, his arm angle and motion are his injury issues. And Floyd gets it up there at 93-94. Is Carter's velocity really much more than that? I think the key difference there isn't velocity, but motion. Floyd can hit 93-94 without it looking like he's pushing himself that hard. Thornton is another good example of that. Then there are guys like Danks who look like they are putting everything they have behind the pitch. Which one of those things is Carter?

Part of the front month oil spike is influenced in part with the shortages, short term, from Ike etc. There is some increased demand reality in there, in addition to the dollar changes, and recovery from a low too low in the 90's.

OK, here is the categorized NorthSideSox72 prospect list for this offseason. Two notes... 1. The following players have spent too much time in the majors, so I don't really consider them prospects anymore: Jerry Owens, Ehren Wassermann, Mike MacDougal, Boone Logan, Brian Anderson 2. The rankings are balance between ceiling and likelihood of reaching major league value. SP Aaron Poreda Clayton Richard Justin Cassel Lucas Harrell Charlie Shirek Leroy Hunt Dexter Carter Dan Hudson Jack Egbert Lance Broadway Anthony Carter John Ely Levi Maxwell Gregory Infante Matt Zaleski Nevin Griffith RP Kanekoa Teixera Adam Russell Jon Link Henry Mabee Brian Omogrosso Kevin Asselin Ryan Strauss Steven Upchurch Stephen Sauer Ryan O’Neill Jon Link Jon Lujan Brent DeFoor Justin Kuehn Po-Yu Lin 1B/DH Brandon Allen Jorge Castillo SS/2B Gordon Beckham Chris Getz Sergio Miranda Tyler Kuhn Eduardo Escobar Victor Mercedes Greg Paiml Juan Silverio 3B Josh Fields CJ Retherford Brent Morel Logan Johnson OF John Shelby Jordan Danks Jose Martinez David Cook Justin Bourgoeis* (utility, also IF) Kent Gerst Johny Celis Steven Gartrell Jordan Kendall Jim Gallagher C Cole Armstrong Kevin Dubler Matt Innouye Donny Lucy (this is highly dependent on his injury recovery - could be anywhere from #1 to #5 or not even on this list) Francisco Hernandez

QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) I am a bit worried about the fact that Carter throws across his body... That could lead to injury problems down the line. The article says the opposite. To wit: They tweaked his delivery and he's now throwing almost fully over the top.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Actually this is like her 2nd or 3rd, the media just hasn't paid that much attention. The head of "Jews for Jesus" spoke at her church a while back also, amongst some other people. What's the problem with Jews for Jesus? Seriously, I don't see the biggie there.

What do you NOT like about your candidate
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
I started a thread like this last week - 3 strengths AND weaknesses for each. Thread died a quick death. Hopefully this one is better. Here are the things I can think of, off the top of my head, I don't like about Obama (in no particular order... FISA Plans to increase taxes on multiple income brackets Plans to increase corporate taxes (I'm OK on this for oil, otherwise no) Plans to increase cap gains and dividend taxes He supports affirmative action He's not talking enough about green/open space protection (though McCain isn't either) He's not talking enough about mass transit and rail transit His lack of experience generally A few of his ads (though he hasn't been near as dishonest as McCain so far) His financial stimulus ideas, and his ideas on the financial markets as well (some of them) I'm sure there are others, but those come quickly to mind. -
I believe Mr. Cook is a minor league free agent as of now. I wonder what's next for him. I'd like to see him in ST and get a look as a backup OF. But some other team may offer him a real chance to start, in which case I doubt he'd stick with the Sox.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Yowza. That's some holy entertainment there. So Palin has her Rev Wright now?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) If you really want to know, I won't spoil it for those who don't. I'll white type it... This quarter the US broader markets are down only 5%, which is the best preformance in the world. Places like Norway, Russia, and Brazil are all down 35% OR MORE, this quarter. Heh. Had a feeling - should have gone with the gut instead of over-thinking it.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) He has logged time in the majors. And he was at B-Ham this year? This is the guy who we lost to OAK in the Rule 5, then re-signed when OAK dumped him, yes?

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) No it's not, the would may leads you to believe that it may be true or it may not therefore only 50% misleading. OK, fine. Its 50% misleading.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Palin - VP May Not Be Part of the Executive Branch Your headline is 100% misleading. She said nothing of the sort. The article simply iprojects the bizarre and over-the-top sentiments of Dick Cheney onto Sarah Palin. Kind of like when posters here lump everyone on the board who may be on the other side of the aisle into the same person.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Here is the pop quiz portion of our show... What is the best preforming stock market out of the major world markets YTD? I'll take a wild guess before I research it... is it the BMV in Mexico?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) But with their almost systematic abuse of the voter registration, someone higher up should be the one getting in trouble, and they should not be getting government contracts until they can show some kind of verifiable changes to their systems to prevent further fraud. I think a very similar stance should be taken with Diebold and their voting machines.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) The DOW was up over 400 points today (410 as of right now) at the closing bell. How the hell did that happen? Dead cat.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) God Bless HCP or he'd be a dead campaign walking. Look. I understand that the HCP thing is a response to RSO. But I really think the "hot chick" reference is more than a little sexist. I'd appreciate it if you stopped with that.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) What extreme? Do you and Genius BOTH need a refresher course on the definition of "if"? Man, if I had a flamethrower I'd probably torch this place one day. Sorry FSJ, I wasn't trying to say that. I was more saying, with some pride, that the thread seemed bad but actually wasn't all that horrible on scale. Then, this thread got bad. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) The other thing we get is "except the posters here because . . ." Well, in reality, I think most of the posting crowd in here is in the top few percentile in terms of knowledge of politics.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) I've noticed that people like to attribute the actions/thoughts of 1 or 2 posters to an entire group of people. IMO that's a copout and it's a way to avoid having to think too hard/type a few extra words, and it comes across as condescending. That.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails
NorthSideSox72 replied to StrangeSox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) I remember, before the thread turned into a steaming pile of s***, that someone suggested the idea that McCain may not have done his homework, and that if that was true, the pick could blow up in his face. I thought that might've been kap but I don't remember. I said something not quite that far, but along those lines. But I never predicted Palin would be axed. I do see Fla's post now though - so I stand corrected there. Amazingly though, for as lousy as that thread got, there was very little that went to such an extreme. -
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Not saying they are, but with this fraud(ACORN) involved, I would check every registration they return. I concur.

'Anonymous' Hacker Group Gets Palin's Emails

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) It totally would First it was Palin was going to step down from being VP because her daughter is pregnant. Now it's "She's going to jail cause of emails which expose the truth!". wishful thinking on the Democrats part IMO Neither of those things was ever suggested or brought up here that I recall.
