QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) Damn, that's good. NSS is on top of it. I don't think that SS saw the math that way, but I do think the point remains that people can spin anything they want to in any way they want to. BUT, I do think that these candidates, without regard to party, will spit out rhetoric like this that all sounds like the world is going to be such a better place for all, no matter who is president, all because of them. Okay... sure... it's up to us, really. Sure. His saying that 5 million jobs will be created is a complete and total guess. At best, an educated one. At worst, he pulled it out of his ass. I was just talking about the math, and saying he didn't get the numbers, which wasn't really true.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Funny math http://www.poorandstupid.com/2008_06_15_ch...462049832146448 SS, you work in finance - so I am surprised you see the math that way. In no way did Obama say he was going to fund 5 million jobs with $150B. He said he'd invest $150B in the sector, which he feels could create 5 million jobs. And I actually think that number might be conservative, in terms of how many jobs could be created in that sector. But he's not saying $150B is the SALARY of those jobs. He is saying he wants to fund projects with that money, which should help push businesses into growth that creates jobs. So, actually, the math is just fine. You may not agree that 5 million jobs could be created by the investment, but, there is nothing mathematically wrong with his statement.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) David Cook doubled in his 1st at-bat of the 2nd game. Now 5-5 on the day. Game Day So through his first 7 games, he's hitting .480 with a 1.256 OPS. Seven singles, three doubles and a triple - so he's not trying to hit for the fences either. Cripes. Very small sample size though. He obviously won't hit like that forever.

Dewayne Wise is up Paul Konerko to the DL
NorthSideSox72 replied to quickman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sort of uninspired, but, might be the best fit I suppose. Owens got hurt today, Fields is DL, Cook is probably not ready, and Getz is not really a CF. All told, I think I would still rather have seen Getz or Cook. -
Jerry Owens left the game today in the 1st inning due to an unspecified injury while playing in CF. Charlotte currently losing 5-4 in the third inning.

6/17 Game Thread: PIT @ CWS, 7:11pm CT

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Ive never understood the hatred for Marte by Sox fans. Always negative. Marte had a disease that MacDougal shares - poor performance under pressure. Overall numbers don't speak to that, you have to know the situations they were in. Both had a habit of doing worse under pressure (runners on, for example), and padding their numbers in mop up work. That's not a good thing for a setup guy. -
King Richie the Second to start in Sox ad

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) That last line is pretty funny, I'd say the majority of Sox fans I know hate these commercials seeing as how they're not funny or cute or particularly clever, just annoying. The Konerko one is funny. The others range from OK to annoying. But this Daley one sounds pretty funny - looking forward to it. -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) Kevin Skogley and Lucas Harrell are starting for Great Falls and Bristol. Skogley? He's on the Kannapolis roster, according to MiLB.com. Interesting - I guess he's been demoted back to GF then.

Bristol has updated their roster for today's opener, and a bunch of draftees are on there. So I will bold them on the main list. Draftees on the roster include: 16/570 Kuehn, Justin Santa Clara U RHP 17/600 Greene, Justin Francis Marion U CF 18/630 Garcia, Andrew UC Riverside 2B 19/660 Vargas, Jose Ventura Col 3B 21/720 Graffy, Brett U Notre Dame RHP 23/780 Castillo, Jorge Florida International U 1B 25/840 Short, Brandon St John's River CC CF 27/900 Asselin, Kevin Sonoma St U RHP 31/1110 Doyle, John Boston Col RHP

Today is Opening day for our Rookie and Short Season teams. Good chance to see some of the recent draftees, as well as some of last year's young players. Here are today's games, for the full system... Charlotte @ Richmond, 12:00pm CT, no starter announced yet Jacksonville @ B-Ham, 7:05pm CT, McCulloch (4-5, 4.07) tries to continue his recent success for the Barons Potomac @ Winston-Salem, 6:00pm CT, Long (3-8, 5.47) starts for the Warthogs The SAL All-Star game is today, at 6pm CT, in Greensboro. The only Kanny player on the team (South) is the Intimidators' closer, Henry Mabee. Johnson City @ Bristol, 6:00pm CT, no starter announced yet. Lucas Harrell is rehabbing in Bristol, so he may start. Great Falls @ Helena, 8:05pm CT, no starter yet here either. The roster is also not very filled out yet, so, hard to tell. Might be Nevin Griffith.

Today is Opening Day for both Great Falls and Bristol!!! I'll go start the 6/17 games thread and include those.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) That hasn't worked both ways AT ALL this election. If that is the standard, that is one thing. If you are pushing for it to be the standard, you should live up to that standard. I should live up to that standard? How have I not? I think I've been pretty damn clear about my feelings on this - I don't care what the candidate's followers are doing. I just don't. The only exception is if they are in their de facto administration, their inner circle, and are speaking FOR the campaign. And I am not sure why you think it hasn't worked both ways. If anything, I am seeing quite a bit of B.S. from both wings, and neither candidate has been strong on stopping it. They can't anyway.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) Anybody can defend their wife, it takes a real man to defend their opponent. For all of the talk about being better than McCain, he sure doesn't seem to want to lead when he gets the chance. All he has to say is to John McCain served his country honorably, and leave his service record alone, just like they should have done with John Kerry. Its over at that point. Samething with going after McCain's wife. One statement, and its over. If he tells everyone it is meaningless, no one cares anymore. But he won't because it benefits him. This is the same kind of proxy bulldog attacks that we have seen for years from the Clinton's and Bush's that supposedly wasn't going to happen under Obama, but guess what... it is, dispite the propaganda otherwise. While I agree about what it takes to defend people, I have to disagree about this whole idea that Obama or McCain need to go out and say something in these cases. Fact is, their supporters will go out and do/say all sorts of nasty things. They cannot be constantly apologizing and standing up for their opponent every time one of the loons from their own party makes some assinine statement. For practical purposes, they only can and only should to that when someone from their inner circle steps over the line. I just cannot see attaching the fortunes of Obama or McCain to their supporters. If I did, I'd despise them both. I just think the reality is that they are NOT the same as their supporters, and they can't really control them anyway.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) please let me know if you think this is a stretch, but here is where I find it interesting. He finished 5th from the BOTTOM of his class (reportedly) due to behavioral issues 40 years ago and is well known for his anger issues. Combine those 2 together and it make an interesting profile of a potential future president. Maybe I am over analyzing. But those are something that raises my eyebrow. (This from a man who was willing to support McCain until he actually opened his mouth and talked about the issues) The guy served his country more than admirably. And I'm not just talking about his POW time here either. Have you ever seen the PBS special on the big fire on the Forrestal? I really don't think it much matters what grades someone got in college, and certainly not when they went on to be very successful at what they went to school for.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) and this... McCain's Secret, Questionable Record I would be curious to see those records. Kerry did it. I happen to be close friends with a USNA grad who went on to fly Hornets off carriers. Here is something that your article author fails to realize... the decision on who gets to go be a carrier-based fighter jockey is not about grades. Its about a combination of very specific skills and physical conditions, that are entirely seperate. So his grades are pretty irrelevant in any case. That is, assuming that the Academy works then like it does now, which I can only guess is the case.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) Nothing personal kyyle23, but maybe the ignore function is a good idea since quickman and my responses and perhaps even our mere presence seem to annoy you. And maybe you need to read a little better. Drop it. Last warning, and that applies to everyone.

Who would you add to the 25 man roster

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) Fields, Cook, and Eldred are all the same all or nothing plodders that we have a line up full of already. Give me someone who will swing for a basehit with two strikes, or punch the outside pitch the other way, just to change the look of the line up a bit. Cook is perhaps not ready, but he is definitely not an all-or-nothing guy, or a plodder. He has some speed, and he is a high average, high OBP guy who has consistently walked more than he has struck out. With him, the issue is more a question of whether or not he's ready. He just got to AAA. Eldred is definitely all or nothing though, and Fields is close to that but not as bad as Eldred. Fields is a little faster than some of the mid-lineup guys with the Sox right now, but that's not saying a lot. -
Game Preview *clears throat again* GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Did they get the game in tonight? If so, how did Loaiza do? Velocity? See the first post in the thread, you can click on the "box" link to see the result. Charlotte lost 4-0. Offense was couldn't capitalize - they had 2 doubles (Cook, Eldred), 4 singles (Getz, Castillo, Phillips, Bourgeois) and 5 walks (Getz 2, Cook, Richar, Huffman), but couldn't score any of those 11 baserunners. Loaiza went 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 ER, no walks and no strikeouts. Ohka went 4 IP in relief, gave up 2 ER.

BTW, one of our minor league local posters is saying that Fields is now on the DL. I don't have any further info. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Loaiza on rehab, Fields on the DL, Javier Castillo promoted from B'ham. The Warthogs game was cancelled a long time ago. It won't be played. Fields DL? Por qua?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) So how would it work if ELo is in AAA already? Quickly to a rehab stint somehow? Aren't those limited in duration? Seriously, how does that work? He was only on the DL a few days.
