  2. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) What side does Getz hit from? Does he have any speed? Thanks. First, here is a reference for you to get simple info like that: www.milb.com. Type it in, then type "Getz" in the player search box. Getz hits lefthanded. He has enough speed to steal double digits in bases in a given minor league season, but also gets caught a fair amount. Hard to say with MiLB stats though, on SB's. A better gauge would be a scouting report, but I don't know his speed that well. He's not slow - let's start with that.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Sorry, i rarely venture in here, guess i never got around to it No worries. Just letting you know.
  4. I'll be there. Time for the Sox to put up against a good team. And time for Dempster to run out of gas.
  5. Also, was this near a river? Maybe a mink or otter? ETA: Could also be a fisher.
  6. I'd say there is a basically zero chance it was a Coati or Coatimundi. The closest place to Iowa you might find one is SW New Mexico or SE Arizona. More likely, it was a woodchuck (a.k.a. groudnhog), or possibly an immature fox.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 06:17 AM) The problem is that in these rape cases, there are as many or more false charges by a pissed off ex-spouse or whatever than genuine charges. Meanwhile, children are very difficult to get reliable testimony out of. No matter what they say some doctor will give a reason for why the testimony was the result of mental trauma caused by sexual abuse. Also remember, DNA evidence usually won't come into play because the child won't say anything until it's too late. Just my 2 cents. As many or more? Where did you pull that number from?
  8. If Swish ends up at 1B, and the Sox don't acquire a CF for 2009, I would like to see David Cook in the mix (with Anderson and/or Owens, if they are both still in the org) for that job.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) I voted for Bednarik 4 years ago (first time i could vote) b/c i wasn't thrilled with Bush and just hated John Kerry. This year i'm not gonna go the third party route though. You also need to read, agree to and post acknowledgement in the MUST READ thread before posting (I don't think I see your name in there). Thanks.
  10. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Im surprised the Libertarian party is gettng such little love. Less government is a good thing, hell if the Articles of Confederation were still around we wouldnt have any of the problems we have today Exaggerate much? Also, you need to read, agree to and acknowledge in the MUST READ thread before posting in the Buster.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) Yes, and no. We have a much more resiliant middle and lower class, which can absorb this much better. Its pure conjecture on my part, but we did this to the Soviet Union in the early 80's (it was one of the things Reagan was most proud of when interviewed later) and Japan in the late 80's. Plus we had to do this to keep the economy from completely falling apart mentally. We basically are exporting our way out of the recession. I said 6 months ago we would never seen an official recession because of that, and it seems like that is coming together. But there's one problem with that, and its a key difference between the US economy now and the US economy then. There is simply a lot less manufacturing going on here now. Therefore, there is a lot less bandwidth in terms of production increases for export. So I think that's limited. Yet again, this tells me we need to get to the forefront on renewable energy and start exporting those technologies.
  12. 43-35, still +.5 games Will someone please beat the f***ing Twins!!!
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Its all a part of the master plan... We are taking down China's economy, and we are all witnesses to it. If the US and/or Europe can make serious ground in the next 10 years towards non-fossil fuel energy, then the RIC of the BRICs will be in serious trouble economically.
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) And all the neighboring states will be lining up to host the businesses that will flock away from California. Sort of, but in the literal sense, not really. Oregon is a state that generally has very tough environmental standards, and AZ has some too. Though I am not sure about NV. Now there is a subject that I have not seen researched, that I'd love to see - how various states differ on environmental standards, land protection, pollution restrictions, etc. Instead of moving to a neighboring state, maybe they will go to Indiana, where they can dump all their s*** in Lake Michigan.
  15. Mabee was promoted, but Texeira is staying. So, will that mean that Mabee will be a setup guy for Tex, or will Tex be promoted too? Also, why is Po Yu Lin repeating Bristol? I know he showed up in ST in 2007 with disappointing velocity, but his numbers at Bristol were pretty solid. I'm kind of surprised he wasn't sent to Kanny.
  16. I can't see the game, just Gameday... has anyone been watching Crede? He's 0-for-3 with an error. Does he look tenative, like he's worried about the back? Or is he just having a bad game?
  17. Anderson hitting in the 2-hole with no outs and a man on 1st... grounds the first pitch he sees to third base. Wonderful.
  18. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) We wont the firs game 6-1 And lost the second game 5-0 Both teams scored 6 runs during the series so far ;-) Ah. I couldn't figure your math. Its all so clear to me now.
  19. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) Past two games both teams scored 6 runs each... speak of rubber match. Lets go Sox. The Sox scored 6 on Tuesday. That is the only time either team has scored 6.
  20. Good to see Crede back in there. Anderson at #2? Goofy. Better to have CQ at 2, Dye 3 and Crede at cleanup.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) McDonalds could kill him. Ah yes. The McGriddle Amendment.
  22. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) It was real. I saw it on SportsCenter. I don't think they show scripted highlights. Its a gatorade commercial, as noted previously. Like those ridiculous ones where they show Michael Vick throwing a football 200 yards, etc.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Just look at other Western countries that outlaw guns and their crime rates and compare them to ours. I have. I wrote a 2nd amendment law review, and also a position paper, on 2A, in college. And actually, the numbers on gun violence make a strong case for having 2nd amendment protections for individuals. Gun crime in places where gun bans or restrictions are enacted do not typically go down - they usually stay the same or go up. Communities with high rates of legal gun ownership are nearly always lower crime areas. And as for comparing countries, you have to have some time perspective. The UK banned guns a long time ago (for the most part), but their violent crime rates were already very very low. Gun crime in London is still low, but has gone up steadily. For every example like the UK, there is an example like Switzerland, where every household is armed, and violent crime is virtually non-existent.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) Right. I'm saying I see no reason that a civilized society should have a need to bear arms. You think the only purpose of having guns is to hunt? We don't live in Eden, as noted above. And our government sure as heck isn't worthy of our complete trust. That's why we vote, and recycle politicians, and have a Constitution enumerating individual rights... but MOST importantly, the Constitution is an AFFIRMATIVE document of the powers of government. Not the other way around. It lines out what the government can and should do, and leaves ALL ELSE to states and the people. And in the case of guns, they felt so strongly about making sure that right was protected, they made sure to add that right immediately behind the freedom of speech.
