  1. Are they trying to convert Day to a starter?
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) Who? I don't see anybody leaving Charlotte until September unless it's to cover an injury. Our major league roster is pretty stable at this point. 50/50 on Getz replacing Ozuna. Also, there's bound to be a few bullpen moves here and there.
  3. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) Anyone else following the screen adaption of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road?" It's the 2007 pulitzer price winning novel about a father and son traveling across America in a post apocalyptic setting. And yes, he was the author of "No Country For Old Men." Mark my words, more than five months before it's released, if most of the material from the novel is included in the film it will win best picture. There would have to be one HELL of a movie to defeat it. I'm really looking forward to it. Great book. Heart wrenching, but I couldn't put it down. Wow, that's a hell of a cast they have for that film. Viggo, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall... the director is a relative nobody. Definitely looking forward to this one!
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) As much as I don't like it, they are free to teach whatever they want. That's mostly true, but I have to say, the promotion of violence that is clearly illegal here is a worry. I don't think that should slide. The other rhetoric, as long as it doesn't absolve homicide, is fine for a private school.
  5. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) as far as CNN, it's more of the direction of news (the stories they chose to emphasize). Wolf Blizter and Cooper Anderson are definitely pro-Dem. CNN has also been very pro-Obama, any news network that openly campaigns for a candidate or party, can at best have a 2 or 9 rating with me on the scale we are currently using to evaluate. Pro-Obama? As far as I saw, CNN was the one network that seemed pro-Clinton. Still though, I think CNN is probably the closest thing to center available, among the TV networks.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) is it too early to declare Wasserman a AAAA player? Well, think about it this way. Look at Charlotte's other closer right now - Mike MacDougal. He's had basically one good season his entire career. He sucked in 2007 for months, and was then demoted. He was then given another change in ST, and then as the season began, and still sucked. Then he was demoted again. Point is, his one very good season in 2006 was enough to make the Sox give him lots of chances. Now look at Wassermann. His numbers throughout the minors were as good or better than MacDougal's. And in his one season of decent use in the majors, he was very good. The 2 week stretch this spring for the Sox where he sucked was, literally, the one time in his professional career where he wasn't solid. I think its way too early to give up on Wassermann. He looked awfully good in 2007.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 06:22 AM) We do need a lead off hitter at some point, and one of our guys wil have to sit eventually. I assume you mean sit eventually, as in, once in a while. I would hope the Sox are smart enough not to actually bench any of the current outfielders, just so the team can have a prototypical leadoff hitter. If the Sox sign Lofton or the like, its to be a 4th OF, PR and PH. And my guess is, it would be Ozuna who would hit the road if that happens.
  8. I sure as heck hope that most of these folks have flood insurance.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) KCRG is reporting that Iowa City could crest at 38 feet, 16 feet above flood stage and 11.5 feet above the 1993 record. Holy Christ. 1993 was horrific. These levels blow that flood away. That's incredible. Some towns will not survive this. The financial toll will be monstrous.
  10. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) 1337 = leet = elite QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Online gaming lingo for 'Elite'. Its used as a substitute for awesome/amazing/cool/elite etc... My last video game at home was on an atari, so, I'm apparently waaaaaaaaaaay out of that loop. Thanks for the info.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Exactly. Which means Rezko admitted that he did illegal work for Blago. Basically, yes. And because Lisa Madigan can't chase down Blago for it (being the daughter of Michael), they will punt to the feds. And I wouldn't be surprised if Blago is indicted, either before or after the next election.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) I thought he admitted to shaking down people for "donations" in exchange for favors such as jobs and influence. And as I understand it, the influence and jobs went through Blago.
  13. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Fitzgerald has hardly been a Bush puppet. ^^^ Fitz is a bulldog, and BushCo has in fact tried to get him out of the way multiple times. He's just so damn good at what he does, they can't really fire him.
  14. A bad team? LOL'ers. The Sox are not among the top few teams in baseball, but to say they are a bad team is just ridiculous. They're 5-ish games into first, 8 games over .500 and have up until this series killed their division. They have the best ERA in baseball and an offense that is middle-of-the-pack. Bad team? Please.
  15. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) I'm reading this, thinking, I sure hope he's 1337, but that's a pretty bold prediction for such a low pick. Then I realize that's his actual draft position. If I were him, I'd brag to everyone about my draft number. And, yes, that may be why I'm no good at picking up women... Why would you hope he was 1337? I get the feeling I'm missing some kind of blogosphere inside joke here.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Umm didn't he admit to doing illegal activities for Blago? I thought he was found guilty, yes. But I don't think he admitted it. The Obama stuff was always a side show, nothing going there, other than that real estate deal (which was dicey but not illegal).
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) I'm not talking about the two bit players. I am talking about the huge eight to nine figure worth PE's. Then yeah, they are only doing token work. But that will change over time, and in the near future. They'll have no choice, for a variety of reasons.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) And then we kind of "stay home" because then we go to Wrigley. Wrigley is not home in any game sense. Just the non-travel part. Its very much a road game, against a very tough team.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Well, it's now quite clear that a bad team is going to win the AL Central. And thanks to the embarassing play by the White Sox throughout this series, there is a chance it'll be the Detroit Tigers. If we are sitting at home in October, outside of the obvious mid and late September series, you'll need look no further than theres 3 games as to why. That's a bit much. But that series sure did suck. Now we've got a week at home against 2 week teams. Take care of business in those series, win each one, and all is OK in the world.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Like I said, if there is REALLY money in this, someone will invest in it. There are private equity companies that exist just for finding investments. They don't care about what they make money on, as long as they make it. Keep in mind, they ARE investing in it. Companies are growing all over the place doing solar cells, wind power, electric cars, etc. Its happening. But they are small fish, with little capital, so it takes longer. The large energy/oil firms could do it quicker, but have little motivation to do so... yet.
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) You can bold out 1377 Lee Fischer. He's been assigned to Kannapolis. Done. And as the GF paper article said KW2 will be in camp shortly, I bolded him as well.
  22. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I'm sure Kenny Williams would love to trade him for David Weathers. He may in fact be trade bait. But, after this season, he is a minor league free agent. I'd imagine, if he puts up good numbers in AAA, that he'll be looking for a major league deal somewhere. And unless the Sox clean house in the OF, which seems unlikely, that means Cook will be gone. Its too bad, because he looks to me like a guy who figured it out a little late but could be the real thing if given a chance.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) Yes, he's good at all three spots. Good arm, good range, good hustle. Knights Castle is a much smaller ballpark, so his powers numbers should at least be the same if not more. I defintely think he's major league caliber. He's the ideal ballplayer. Always seemed locked in and focused at the plate. A team player all the way. If there is a guy on third with less than two outs, he'll hit the ball the other way either on the ground or in the air. Like I said, the ideal ballplayer. If he does rake at Charlotte, its kind of a shame that he's got nowhere to go. The Sox are pretty well loaded for outfielders this year and next. I get the feeling he'll be headed elsewhere to get his shot at the majors.
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) And to me, that's the farce. Alternative energy is NOT profitable. That's why no one has invested in it. No new technology is profitable straight away. Its always an investment for future profits. But in this case, with these companies making gobs of money on oil, why should they bother investing for a good future when they have an excellent present? This is why the gov't need to incentivize the smaller and non-oil companies into taking the leap.
