  1. And that is why looking at just the offensive thing doesn't work, otherwise you miss that Machado is excellent at creating outs defensively, so much so that it makes up for the gap between them offensively.
  2. Isn't it awesome that absolutely nothing to help the future of the Bulls is being done in all of these deals.
  3. If it is his entire career, it probably isn't luck, but some deeper reasoning, much like Buehrle out preforming his expected numbers pretty much every year of his career due to his defense.
  4. Bicep tear, right? I could have a fuzzy memory tho.
  5. Frank Thomas had an Achilles injury? I don't remember that.
  6. Except that other teams behavior is consistent with it.
  7. It is also worth noting that Rick Hahn said at Soxfest something to the effect of still not knowing what it would take to sign Machado.
  8. Why would Machado or his agent brag about low offers? If you were his agent and only had a 7/175, would you want that out there? Would you be telling other teams that it was the high bid?
  9. The report of 7/175 doesn't have to be correct. It just had to get the Padres to call on Machado.
  10. They are 180 degrees of different players. Complete opposite.
  11. If most of them suck, landing a whale probably doesn't matter anyway.
  12. My big hope is that with Bryce Harper moving to the forefront and possibly stealing a Machado option, that Manny panics here quickly.
  13. Yet, here we are after reports that exactly that happened.
  14. The reports are flat out saying that the Padres got back involved because of the reports of how cheap Manny was being offered.
  15. It is why you saw so many guys get non-tendered this year, despite being productive players. Similar free agents are cheaper in many cases.
  16. There are about 60 to 70 million reasons per year to believe him. It has never worked well for mid to small market payroll teams to tie up so much of their payroll into a couple of players.
  17. The Padres came in because the public reporting on offers was low. If those offers don't get leaked and fought about, there is s decent chance they wouldn't have known enough to even call about them.
  18. Unless he means $15 million per year, he is full of it.
  19. But we still don't know what the number will be. If the Padres thought he would be a $350 million contract at the beginning of the off season, but could have only gone to $300 internally, so they didn't bother early on, they could still offer that $300 million and hit the Sox pain threshold.
  20. But seeing as we haven't signed him, I don't think you can say we know what the teams pain point is.
  21. You can make the same point for the White Sox. No one really knows their pain point. The rumor out there from team reporters is $300 at absolute tops, but our offers don't appear to have approached anywhere near there as the highest one out there is $250.
