The Count possibly to the Astros?
The Yankees are contenders every year and have the largest payroll in baseball and even they went with the completely unproven Robinson Cano at second base. We don't even have half the Yankees' payroll so it would make even more sense for us to try the unproven Brian Anderson. That kind of refutes your whole point, doesn't it?

I agree with you. Prior has a lot more value than Contreras in my opinion as well. But now they are saying that Hendry never offered Prior for Tejada. It wouldn't make much sense that he would either. Hendry is trying to copy the 2005 White Sox (great pitching, speed, and defense). It wouldn't make sense for him to trade away one of his best starting pitchers. Great pitching is the main reason we won the World Series.

Tejada for Manny and Clement would be a nice haul if you don't factor in the massive salary difference ($20 million?), the fact that they would be sending Tejada to their rival, and the fact that Clement is looking more and more like a mediocre pitcher since his horrible second half with the Cubs in 2004.

I really think that the White Sox have the advantage over the Red Sox in getting Tejada. I know that the Orioles still want to get the most value for Tejada, but trading him to a division rival?

The Count possibly to the Astros?
From the other Sox message board... I didn't hear Phil Rogers say this myself. I know Rogers is like the Sam Smith of the MLB. He speculates on almost every trade scenario. But it's the same rumor that was already out there of Contreras, Uribe, and prospect(s) for Tejada.

AVG isn't overrated. OBP and SLG aren't more important than AVG.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Good point.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Contreras for Taveras, Qualls, and Hirsh/Patton. It's the only way I wouldn't b**** about this rumored trade.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Doh, I was thinking that Taveras was a lefty. My bad.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Either way, if the Sox truly are thinking of trading Contreras for Taveras they had also better get a proven reliever like Chad Qualls and a pitching prospect like Jason Hirsh or Troy Patton.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
I guess I just think that Anderson would atleast need to be platooned with Taveras in center field. A fourth outfielder doesn't really see much playing time.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
You don't waste a top prospect for a full season in the majors as a fourth outfielder. You may as well keep him at AAA if that's the scenario.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
This dude is running himself into comical circles.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
If Contreras is traded, McCarthy will be in the rotation.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
The problem is that Taveras doesn't get on base enough because his OBP sucks! He doesn't draw enough walks!- The Count possibly to the Astros?
The Astros even had a tiny bit higher payroll than us last season.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Okay, OBP would still mean more than AVG if Taveras was a #2 hitter. And don't give me the #9 hitter BS. If we traded for Taveras, he would bat second for us.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Yeah, Mike Caruso was more of a flash-in-the-pan.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
OBP damn sure means more than AVG for a leadoff hitter like Taveras.- The Count possibly to the Astros?
The Astros started the 2005 season with an unproven player in center field and ended up making it to the World Series. Guess which player that was?- The Count possibly to the Astros?

So getting power from center field is a bad thing? Would you rather have Juan Pierre / Willy Taveras in center field or Jim Edmonds?- The Count possibly to the Astros?
Since when is AVG the only good measure of a player's offense? OPS is a much better stat to measure a player's offensive capabilities. And I'd bet my left nut that Anderson puts up a higher OPS than Taveras's .666 OPS from last season. - The Count possibly to the Astros?
