  1. McCarthy gets yanked after giving up another hit.
  2. Ouch, McCarthy just gave up a 3-run bomb to the bum Mientkiewicz after issuing two walks. 5-5 tie.
  3. Boone Logan may pitch today according to sleepy Singleton.
  4. It makes sense. The Red Sox had a glut of starting pitchers -- Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Clement, Wells, Arroyo, and Papelbon. Nixon is getting old (turning 32 on April 11th) and he will be a free agent after this season. Pena will be the Red Sox future starting right fielder. They will likely platoon Nixon and Pena in RF for now and may even try to trade Nixon sooner or later.
  5. Gload misses a homer by a couple feet. Ends up with a double.
  6. It's a paradox. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
  7. The only thing that could top this would be to see Thornton pitching against Borchard.
  8. How could KW have tried to build a market for Borchard at this point? The guy has actually regressed over the years in the minors. The only thing KW could have done was trade him earlier (maybe a couple years ago) when he had more value but the Sox had invested so much money in him that they wanted to see if he would ever just click and pan out. I don't see how you can create a market for a career .191 hitter with mediocre minor league numbers.
  9. This Tomato Tamayo dude needs to join Nomo in AAA.
  10. Man, Cintron is f***ing RAKING so far. 2 RBI single. 3-2 Sox.
  11. Nice play by Gload to save the old gas can Nomo from giving up another run. He's already there.
  12. That's cuz he throws 85 MPH meatballs. P.S. -- Nomo is worthless.
  13. I wasn't trying to bash Hawk. Whenever he starts kissing a player's ass that means he will likely make the roster. He did the same thing with Widger last Spring Training. Last spring, Hawk kept mentioning over and over that Widger was taking great rips even though his numbers weren't showing it. Needless to say, Widger made the roster over Jamie Burke. By the way, who started for the Royals?
  14. This is from ESPN.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/scouting?statsId=6522 Sounds to me like he's a pull-hitter which would work well at Fenway.
  15. Man, Singleton just made it sound like Thornton will get the second lefty job over Logan due to his major league experience if he shows anything this spring. Maybe he is just throwing out his own opinion though. It all depends on what Hawk thinks. If Hawk starts blowing this Thornton guy on TV, he will likely have the job.
  16. Arroyo was better than Clement last season, he's 3 years younger than Clement, and he has a much cheaper contract than Clement. Factoring in salary, I would rather have Arroyo than Clement who definately didn't seem like the same guy after being hit in the head by that linedrive. If Arroyo was "figured out" so was Clement. By the way, Spring Training stats mean next to nothing. Bronson Arroyo: 100 career ERA+ Matt Clement: 98 career ERA+ Meanwhile, Pena has a lot of upside. This definately wasn't a steal for the Red Sox though. This was a good trade for both teams. It looks like the Reds will keep Dunn in LF and start Hatteberg at 1B now.
  17. This trade makes sense for the Mariners because Matt Lawton still has to serve a 10-game suspension for testing positive for steroids at the end of last season. Borchard will probably be their fourth outfielder to start the season. So the Mariners will use the rest of Spring Training and the first 10 games of the season to see if Borchard is worth keeping on their roster as their fifth outfielder. If he stinks, they will probably try to send him down to AAA and hope he clears waivers.
  18. Here's a nice biased opinion on the trade from a Mariners blog... http://ussmariner.com/2006/03/20/bye-bye-matt-thornton/
