QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) That's pretty much what we're doing now. We have a group of about 15 people that meet most every Saturday night. Hooters wings and beer is not a church!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) I am always excited when I start a thread that has everyone talking to each other, exchanging tips and ideas, opening up, expanding one's mind. I think we're making great progress here It's like the Alito hearings!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) Two things... 1. Grades Intelligence (that's not equal to, for any non tech folks) 2. Every man to ever serve as President, including this one, is very intelligent. Genius, in most cases. Like them or not, it's true. You just can't rise to that level without that tool. Bush comes off as not very bright because he is a piss-poor public speaker. But he's no idiot. I wouldn't say he's the most intelligent Prez ever either, of course. But dumb he is not. I can agree with that.

Was it a driver's ed car? Our DE car had pedals on the passenger side. Thank God! The first time I was trying to parallel park as I was backing up, I hit the brake to let a car go by. The engine sounded kind of funny, but I wasn't paying attention - I was watching the car pass me. My instructor kept saying, "Take your foot off the gas. Take your foot off the accelerator." I had my foot on the gas the whole time and thought it was the brake. Luckily he had his on the break. No wonder the engine sounded funny. No, I don't know the positions of the passenger side gas and brake.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) and you dont think money helped? He also got a DUI in his 40's and said he was only a kid back than.... No, I don't. He was 30, but I guess facts and details don't matter when it comes to bashing a President.

QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) UPDATE: Today in class we stood for the pledge. He called it state mandated patriotism. He went on to explain how hypocritical it was of the state and the school to enforce the pledge after 9/11. So, I'm sitting there wanting to tell him off but, I resisted the urge. Later in class he starts talking about how Judge Alito is a hypocrite. I said," tell me how." He rambled on for about 5 minutes why. Then I said, "No, you want to know what is hypocritical? Having Ted Kennedy questioning the ethics and character of Judge Alito." He just stood there in shock. He didn't have any come back for it. It was the greatest look I had ever seen on a teachers face. I took a stand and dammit it felt good Good for you, just be careful. Maybe start documenting all of your "run-ins" in case he gives you an undeserved grade.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) No. He signed right up because he's a racial (and sexist), bigoted asshole. You really believe that? But, Byrd is the conscience of the Senate now? He's reformed? :rolly

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) I certainly wouldn't want to – if I had been a member of a campus anti-diversity organization, that is. :rolly If 30 years ago I was an active member of the KKK, you don't think that knowing this today would shed the tiniest bit of light on where my ideologies lie? Congress can't ask nominees anything about an aything that a nominee might potentially have to rule on in the future, so they are stuck looking at past rulings, briefs, and opinions, and also these sorts of forks in the paper trail. But, in the spirit of full disclosure: 30 years ago I was a card carrying member of the both the KISS Army and Friends Of Old Marvel. Yessireee, I got a closetfull of skeletons. So, are you comparing Alito's involvement with CAP to the KKK?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) I prefer the following titles. "How to serve your country and get elected........and RE-ELECTED President in spite of lame ass leftist smear attempts by washed up, stupid reporters." Or "I helped fund people who were fighting the single greatest threat our nation ever faced and in so doing helped bring about their end." Or how about these by Ted Kennedy?: How to get kicked out of Harvard for Cheating How to get back into Harvard, pay someone to take a test for you and get kicked out again for cheating. Oops, I enlisted for 4 years, let's get Daddy Bootlegger / Ambassador to get it knocked down to 2

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Wow...nice analysis, but me thinks people don't want to debate you cause you're kind of an asshole. It has nothing to do with your OPINION of the bible, God, hell or anything else. Amen.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Write a better joke next time! And after the quote! Ouch.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) As much as I love to argue semantics and whether or not you truly believe that liberals kill babies - which I'm sure that you don't by the way - it frankly bores me and I'd like to counteract the perception that you have that liberals believe in abortion. I guess liberals believe in abortion in as much as there is a procedure named abortion and that it happens on occasion. But I think liberals believe that abortion isn't a political issue. I think liberals believe that a woman has a right to choose what happens to her body and that the consequences she faces are her own, and not society's. I think that liberals believe that the question of when life begins is a complicated one and can't be summed up by all the Supreme Courts and Congresses put together, because its an issue that affects people deeply and personally. And I think liberals have different feelings on the issue and although most of them may think that an abortion option should be kept safe and legal, I think that this doesn't describe every bleedin heart out there. Because I think liberals think freely. Of course I think that conservatives think freely. Of course reading posts in this forum would cause you to think otherwise... Then why do they fight so hard against parental / spousal notification and doctor's offering alternatives?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Which proves the authors point that in many Churches, members must worship the GOP along with Jesus. Even YASNY believes that liberals are Godless. First, Wow! I've been missing some good stuff while I've been ignoring this thread. Second, I disagree with the author. My Priest is exactly the opposite. His name is Kennedy. When my first daughter (Reagan) was being baptized, along with 5 other kids, as he said her name he added, "Who's name is a little too Republican for me." Mind you, he said this to the entire congregation. He also offered up an alternative Presidential name: Kennedy.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) I would have to say that Jon Stewart is more typical of what people in the article would be watching than most of the names that have been brought up here. Exactly! Jon Stewart is exactly what the article is about.
