QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) I think Hester has zero trade value as he will never be a reciever and Toub can be credtied with making him a returner. You are so insanely wrong.

All of you giving Dave Toub credit for Hester's return abilities his first 2 season are absolutely insane and delirious. The guy was the best return man in the world at Miami and he brought his skills to the NFL. Give me a break.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 06:02 AM) The trade route is a different scenario. Like you said, that could be anyone. I would rather than give up any talent to add a lefty bat. I don't think it's that crucial with Andruw Jones on the bench. I think the Sox will win the division with whht they have now. And, I'm not denying that Huff played poorly with Detroit but he did not start everyday and I would completely discount that since he's never had a season resembling that and the first 4 1/2 months of last year were nothing like that. Well if he had seasons like that, he wouldn't be in the MLB anymore. And like I said, either way, he was only putting up a .725 OPS in Baltimore as a full time player. It's hard to discount an entire 1/4 of the season.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 05:26 AM) Right. That's why I don't want Thome back - his slugging pct. with the Dodgers was only .235 with an OPS of .471. So, he has no more power. Obviously, he wasn't comfortable with something over the last 6 weeks of the season with Detroit. Before that, he drove in 72 runs in 110 games with Baltimore. He's a career .282 hitter with a .340 OBP. I'm not saying Huff is Albert Pujols but I think he'd be a pretty good fit, of those left available, to help the White Sox win some games. He's more the type that Ozzie wants where he gives the team some flexibility and he can still move a little bit. We need a lefty hitter. Kenny has said that's what he wants. What's nice about Huff is that if Konerko went down early in the season for the year, he could play first rather than Kotsay being the regular there. And, if Teahen were to go down he could play 3B instead of making Vizquel a regular. He's not perfect but Delgado is injured. Thome they don't want because he offers no flexibilty. Vlad is right handed and health and mobility are questionable. Branyan might be ok but he's been a very inconsistent player over his career. Blaylock is always injured and his rep is borass. Who's left? I never said Huff was a pile of s***, but I think it's got to be somewhat concerning that he played 40 games in our division and put up a sub .200 average. I mean he was just absolutely brutal. Check the schedule, his 40 games was almost exclusively AL Central opponents. Now that's not saying that the AL Central is better than the AL East because it's obviously not, but jeez, he was a full-time player (unlike Thome) and Detroit fans absolutely hated him. I wouldn't mind having him as our full-time DH, but he's not my first choice. And even though he had 72 RBI with BAL, he was still only posting a .725 OPS. And there are always options via trade. Chances are Kenny is looking into something that no one expected.

Forgot about this thread, recently I've see: The Usual Suspects, old movie but one I haven't seen. I really enjoyed it, especially Del Toro's character. The Taking of Pelham 123, very surprsingly I liked it. Travolta was kinda corny at times, but the movie really surprised me. I like it a ton. Denzel was great, as usual. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, pretty terrible CG and the movie started off kinda WTF, but it was entertaining. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone and I won't buy it, but it was worth a watch.

Any updates on this?

QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 01:07 AM) well you've got me sold I'd be all for Huff if he didn't hit .189 for the Tigers.

Devin Aromashodu is the man.

Who didn't expect that?

How often do you see a player get helped up by an official?

OMG Bowman. "It's the ole' Tip Drill."

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) With Knox, Bennett, and Manning returning kicks and the emergence of Aromodoshu (sp?), Hester is very expendable in the off season. Depending on what you can get for him, it's definitely something to look into. But I'd really love to keep him and use him in a Wes Welker-like role.

That was fast. I love how the ESPN announcers went silent. Don't sound too devastated lol.
-
Kick Returners are having themselves a night.
-
Well, the Bears are going to lose again.
-
So it only took what, 17 weeks for the Bears to play like they were supposed to? Nice.

Vikings are starting to open it up.

I'd like Byron Scott, JVG, and Thibedeau in that order. I wouldn't mind Marc Jackson either. I think Scott, having done what he did with Chris Paul, and that he's a well-liked and successful coach, would be the prime candidate. -
Seriously Ron Turner? Follow up a TD and a defensive 3 and out with a play-action bomb and then 2 screen passes?
-
I love everything about DirecTV except the Versus issue.

Dunn, Guerrero, or Delgado.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Is going from GVSU head coach to DB coach really an upgrade for him? I could see defensive coordinator. You know, it's a question thats been talked about here a lot the last day or so. Most thought he'd only leave to be defensive coordinator, but I can't really fault the guy. It's a bit disappointing that he left only to be a DB Coach, but at the same time, it's freakin' Notre Dame and he's probably still going to get more money. It's the opportunity to move up that makes it huge. Plus, Martin is Catholic and from the South Side of Chicago, so it's prestigious to him for personal reasons. It really REALLY sucks to lose him, but I wish him the best of luck. I'm sure he'll be coaching a D1 team in the near future. In the meantime, I think ND will love what they have. He was an All-American safety back in the day and has been primarily a defensive coach his entire life. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) yeah its a definite upgrade, its exposure. When I started college at SIU waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1996 they were coached by Shawn Watson for 1 year. He jumped the next year to be the QB coach for Northwestern under Gary Barnett, and followed Barnett to Colorado to be his OC, and now is the OC for Nebraska. These guys know they have to step sideways before they step forward in the coaching ranks in college, unless they are REALLY hot coaches due to their team performance The thing is, it looked almost certain that Central Michigan wanted him to be their Head Coach this season. He was going to follow a very similar path as Brian Kelly going from GVSU to CMU and then to a top D1 school. I know Coach Chuck and have talked to him a bunch, and this was more about the opportunity to work at Notre Dame more so than anything else. He's a family guy from Chicago, so he'll be getting paid more money (presumably) and he'll be closer to home, working with his good friend Brian Kelly at the school he grew up loving. It was the perfect storm for him to leave.
