QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:55 AM) All we gave up to get Floyd was a Freddy Garcia that just about all of us here knew was broken down, and we also get Gio in that trade. Completely different situation. And I will give Bailey a chance. I'm not going to boo the damn guy, and I HOPE I am wrong about him if he's indeed coming or way. In fact, I wish I had never seen him in person and that my brother wasn't a Reds fan so I wouldn't feel so bad about this. Well you've already proclaimed that he WON'T help the White Sox at all, so how exactly is that giving him a chance?

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
SoxFan1 replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:52 AM) Coop can fix mechanics, he can't fix stuff. Bailey is a reclamation project. I don't know in specifics what better we could have got in return obviously, but I know for a fact that a guy who produces like Dye, even at his age, can bring more than a reclamation project in return straight up. He's 22 freakin' years old! How is he possibly a reclamation project? Did he have an entire season of crap in the MLB? Has he had some sort of injury which held him out for a prolonged period of time? You're making yourself look ridiculously dumb right now. And as far as "Coop can fix mechanics", there is a snippet earlier in this thread which said that a wrap of Bailey's wrist on the ball could be causing some inconsistencies in his command and stuff, so yeah... -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:48 AM) This is my ONLY hope with the Dye/Bailey trade if it's indeed true, this record tradewise. Because baseballwise, this trade is terrible. I don't think you've made it quite clear what you think of the deal yet. Could you elaborate? Seriously, relax. We get that you don't like the (proposed/rumored) deal, but give the 22 year old a chance to prove himself. Look what we did with Floyd, who had many more failed innings pitched in the majors with said "declining stuff" and other crap like that.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:46 AM) Everything you put before the words "Using Dye" is true, but that's not even my biggest problem with this. It's clear, even though people won't admit it, that this team is rebuilding. However, to trade Dye for a reclamation project (one whose stuff has betrayed him) is a bad move both in a baseball sense and in the sense that it says to me, this is more that rebuilding, it's "let's go get them in 2010/quasi firesale" mode. I mean this isn't a firesale, but to dump 37 million dollars and get nothing in return to help you anytime soon (and no, Bailey won't help) screams "white flag". Not to mention that we could have got more for Dye than Bailey. No question. Last I checked, Bailey has yet to throw a pitch for the White Sox. Take a deep breath. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:43 AM) Over 37 million has been removed from the White Sox payroll this year in Cabrera-Vazquez-Swisher-Crede-Uribe-Hall. So far, they have been replaced by Betemit, Lilibridge, Nix and Marquez(players most likely receiving major league money). Again, with season ticket renewals over 90%, and prices rising, along with strong attendance last year, how many salary dumps does this team need to make? Using Dye for a reclamation project is an awful plan of attack, and should be considered a bad move. The way I see it, the deal can't really be judged until a few things happen. First, and most obviously, you take it for face value. Bailey for Dye. If Bailey blows and Dye continues being a very productive OF, we lose the deal. Or, the opposite happens and Bailey turns out to be a stud, in which case, it doesn't matter what Dye does because of his age. Now, going deeper, you have to think we're going to use a good chunk of this money to sign some Free Agents or add some salary via trade. If we do end up signing 1 or 2 good free agents who help us in 2009, you have to consider it a smart deal. On the face of it, we lost the Carlos Lee trade by a mile, but with the money saved, we were able to sign some key people. This frees up even more money for us to make a run at Furcal or Dunn or Abreu or whoever. Yes, the White Sox are rebuilding, but they aren't packing it in. You'd be naive to think we wont use some of this money in Free Agency... -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) It's a salary dump for a young guy whose stuff has deteriorated drastically the last two years, and his hits and k/9 ratios reflect that. I have no problem trading Dye, but to get only this in return is simply inexcuseable. All sources point to groin/knee issues and also the Reds organization telling him to work on his secondary stuff... -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) What does everyone think about Mark Grudzielanek? He can be our starting 2B, and he'd probably only cost around $3 million per year for 2 years. Last year, he hit .300 with a .345 OBP. He's a very viable #2 or maybe even a #1 guy. I've never really paid attention to his defense, though. Yes or no? No reason to create even more of a cluster and hold back the youngsters. -
Ok, here's my super-bold call-your-crazy KW prediction.. On Friday, December 12th, the White Sox will hold a giant super orgy Press Conference introducing Homer Bailey, Willy Taveras, Rafael Furcal, and one of Adam Dunn/Juan Rivera/Bobby Abreu. Booyakasha!

QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) So if this is true, do you think Bailey goes in as a lock for #4, or is he battling with Marquez, Poreda and Richard? We just traded an All-Star (and MVP) caliber OF for him. He's got to be slotted in the rotation right now, IMO. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) The problem then is finding a leadoff hitting infielder. If they have one in mind (ie: Furcal) then Taveras is a valuable commodity in the 9 hole. The key though is keeping him at the bottom of the lineup, he has no business at the top. Agreed. Hence, I think signing Furcal and then getting Taveras on the cheap id probably one of the best plans of action right now. You add a lot of speed and you take a lot of pressure of Taveras. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) Yep, I'd have no problem with it, as long as there's good offensive players added to SS and LF. For once, I agree with you completely. I actually welcome the idea of Taveras in CF and batting 9th. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) T minus how many hours before Broadway is traded for WT If he was batting 9th, I'd have zero problems with that. Hopefully a Furcal signing and a Taveras deal would give us a nice speedy combo at 1 and 9 in the lineup. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) I too really want Furcal. I'd be thrilled if the club could get Bailey for Dye (maybe something else coming to the Sox as well) and than use those funds to sign someone like Dunn or Abreu and than use the other funds saved for Furcal. You'd have a question-mark in the rotation (in the sense that you have one proven veteran, but I believe you'd be talking about an above average offense). Furcal SS Pierzynski C Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Dunn LF Ramirez 2B Fields 3B Anderson/Lillibridge CF? Buehrle Danks Floyd Bailey Richard/Poreda/Broadway/Maqrquez -

Man, I'm definitely going to miss JD. I trust KW, so I trust that he knows more than us about Baileys struggles last season. But I must say, between Bailey/Danks/Floyd, the potential of the 3 reminds me of the early Zito/Hudson/Mulder A's rotation. -

If this is a 1-for-1 deal, then I don't like it. EDIT: For future reference and after a little more thought, I'm still enamored with Homer Bailey, but if CIN is as down on him as it seems, I'd like to think we could get more. Bailey's potential is incredible though and I have always been a fan. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) I don't believe anyone in the Sox organization ever mentioned Hudson. It was all writers speculation. Before all the moves made so far, it seemed like a perfect fit. Alexei could move to SS, Hudson is signed to play 2B and bat at the top of the order, then you are only left to fill 3B/CF.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I really don't care if you call me an idiot. I remember being called an idiot back when we stupidly traded 3 prospects for Swisher. Yeah, that one has really come back to bite us so far. DLS had Tommy John surgery, Ryan Sweeney still has no power, and Gio had a high-7 ERA and walked nearly as many as he struck out thus getting demoted to the bullpen.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) It makes me apprehensive to sign someone whose speed is a major tool that has been injured the last two seasons (Pods) and will be in his mid-thirties for the majority of the contract. Furcal was a good signing 4 years ago, but I think that ship has sailed, and the Dodgers lack of interest should throw up a red flag, like maybe they know something that we dont. I think our leadoff hitter will come from the CF position, and it may be an acquisition for another young prospect, maybe a package of the pieces that we have acquired for a year of Chone Figgins and Peter Bourjos, Cameron Maybin, or Dexter Fowler they would all fit KW's plan to get younger, be more athletic, and improve the defense. Save the money and get a pitcher instead of spending on a big question mark like Furcal. If I'm not mistaken, the Dodgers "lack of interest" comes from Furcal's contract demands. I'm pretty sure I remember them really wanting to re-sign Furcal shortly after the season ended. -
