Sweeney + Gio for the win!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO. If you'd take single specialist Sweeney over Swisher, there is something wrong with you. Sweeney is at .289 right now, Swish is somewhere around .230. Yes, Swisher's BABIP shows he's been extremely unlucky this season and he STILL has a higher OBP, SLG, HR, RBI, etc. Swisher/Broadway > Sweeney/Gio. Period.

Iguchi never turned into the fan favorite for me. I liked him, but he was never one of my favorites. The HR vs the BoSox was huge, but I think the 2 defining moments for me was the Grand Slam against the Cubs after the Barrett/Pierzynski incident, and the play photographed above.

I thought this would be a thread about Phelps or Nastia Liukin. Happy birthday Tru!

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 12:22 AM) Jeremy Schaap just reported that if Crocker concentrates tomorrow, which he has had trouble doing in the past, that he will in fact beat Phelps. I'm not Joe-Swimmer here but it sounds like one of those for sure things. Phelps took himself out of a race in 2004 for Crocker, so maybe if Crocker beats him, he will pull out of a future race in these olympics so Phelps can take his spot, which should get him gold medal #8. Cavic won the heat beating Phelps, then he won his semifinal swim beating Crocker, and had a faster time than Phelps also. If Cavic wins the gold, which he has a very legitimate shot to do, the only people who would be surprised would be the people at NBC. -

We've got ourselves a pitcher folks. With some defense behind him, he could have done a lot better. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Crap stories and s***ty coverage is the way the media has covered sports as long as I can remember. It's sad, but all you can do is enjoy the athletic events and ignore the media. We as White Sox fans living in Chicago and dealing with the Cubsessed media should know that more than anybody. I see your point with the Cubs/Sox comparison, but that pales into comparison with the Olympics. It's the single greatest sporting event in the world. I have yet to see ANY coverage on soccer, very little on water polo, nothing on handball, and numerous other sports. But I suppose as long as Michael Phelps, Misty May, Kerri Walsh, and Johnathan Horton are competing...it's much more important than anything else. In other news, Federer was upset today by James Black. Djokovic advances in 3 sets vs Monfils, and Nadal takes care of some Austrian. The semifinals are set: Blake (US) vs Gonzalez (CHI) Djokovic (SRB) vs Nadal (ESP) On the woman's side, both of the Williams sisters lost. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) I'm sure you could have a friend back in Serbia hook up a slingbox or watch the Serbian channel that covers the Olympics through your satellite... since this American media is just so terrible. You know, the American media you digest 24 hours a day. Better shut that TV off right now, actually, because that American media is about to cover this White Sox game. That American Ken Harrelson is such a homer too. Face it, you live in America, the media is going to be biased toward the home country. The only person who can stop the ingestion of the terrible American media is you, by turning off the tv, not logging into soxtalk, not going to American Website... not doing all the American things you like to do in this country. This doesn't mean I love you any less, but I'm tired of you complaining about America in this thread with nothing to back it up. I never said American media. And my complaining about these crap stories and s***ty coverage is only as bad as your complaints about the ceremony and the age issue of the Chinese gymnasts. Sorry for wanting fair, diverse coverage of all good stories throughout the game instead of just what time Michael Phelps takes a dump every day. -

Gotta love the media. Also, Milorad Cavic beat Michael Phelps in the 100m butterfly heats this morning, both obviously qualified for the semifinals. Doesn't really matter though...nothing does until the final. -
He will be reporting to Class A Kannapolis.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) I see several problems here. Agreed. I am not the General Manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Disagree. Bailey was projected to be much greater at his position than Anderson, and comparing the two is therefore flawed. Further, Bailey was always much more talented than Anderson, further discrediting the comparison. Agreed. Bailey is, therefore, very young and has all the potential in the world; Brian Anderson has not improved at all and appears the exact same on a baseball field as he did in 2006. Bailey has not lost any of his stuff, while Anderson has not improved on his. Very many differences. Quentin was blocked in Arizona; Bailey isn't in Cinci. There's one difference. Another: seems like Arizona made that deal with us to flip those prospects. Because Byrnes isn't half-asleep when he makes trades. Because Broadway sucks and has a limited ceiling while Bailey's is still through the roof. Because Fields/Anderson aren't special or potentially special players. Good thing you're not the manager of the D-Backs, but Bailey is on the Reds. I never compared the abilities of Anderson and Bailey, but they're production, still making the comparison totally valid. Yes, Bailey has a lot of potential, but he hasn't lived up to it at all. In fact, he hasn't shown much potential at all this season. Stop associating the great prospect name of Homer Bailey to the MLB pitcher Homer Bailey who has sucked. Arizona couldn't have done the deal to flip prospects. Quentin already had MLB experience and Cunningham isn't very close to the majors. If you don't think Fields and his 40 HR potential isn't potentially special, then you have worse problems than your unhealthy man crush with John Scheurholtz and Bill Belicheck.

Brian Anderson's middle name is Nikola. Weird.
-
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:30 AM) Not as a main piece for Bailey, no. There is no way you can say that for sure. Bailey is the pitching version of Brian Anderson. Lots of talent, completely sucked once given an opportunity. Bailey is 22 and Anderson is 26. If Bailey continues struggling, there's no reason they couldn't make a deal like AZ did with Quentin. Anderson or Fields/Broadway for Bailey. Why the hell not?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) Yeah see I figured it was like that, no surprise. I am biased since I am such a baseball fan, but realistically, it shouldn't be an olympic sport and won't be in London. The WBC is where it's at anyways. I think the WBC is part of the reason it has no spot in the Olympics. In pretty much every other sport, the Olympics is the whole shebang. Thats what its all about, thats the ultimate challenge. Haha, this Japanese guy was forced to wait to do his pommel horse routine. If he loses, the Karolyi's should blame the officials. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Well you are getting your wish. Softball for sure should not be an olympic sport, I know that much. Baseball has a better case because you do have a lot of it played in parts of Central and South America, as well as the Carribean, Australia, Korea, Japan, but a small percentage of nations play it so I could see why it is being discontinued as an olympic sport too. The WBC is the big event now anyways since major leaguers actually play in it. Just to kind of get an idea, 8 of the 202 countries in the Olympics are fielding a baseball team... -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) So far: 7 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk, 11 k's He's been untouchable, but Netherlands was shut out in their first game too so I have no idea if they have any offense to speak of. He has very good stuff though, regardless of who the opponent is. He had a no hitter going until a single with 2 outs in the 7th. This may be an unpopular opinion here (and in this country), but baseball and softball don't deserve to be Olympic sports. To me, simply not enough countries play it for it to be as competitive as it should be. -

Serbia with a huge win vs the USA in water polo. Pretty low scoring, but a foot in the right direction and they have easier matches coming up vs China and Italy. LOL, this Horton guy is ridiculously corny. What an attention whore. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) Is there a reason english is so prominent worldwide? I have to plead ignorance on this one and ask somebody who might know better than I would. That does explain most of what I was wondering though, except for the fact you hear the American music and sounds of the game in so many events during these olympics. That's still kind of weird to me too. It's prominent because it's one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. I guess thats kind of a paradox or an oxymoron or something along those lines, but it's as simple as that. It's a relatively easy language to learn when speaking-wise, grammatically and written, it's a whole different story. It resonates, because of American movies and music being shown world wide. Overall, its just easier to learn than Chinese or Russian or Spanish, making it more universal.
