  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) He's been on Walker's ass all season, and he's been dead on with a lot of what he says. This team has done an awful job of making adjustments. Hell, Borchard made an adjustment during his AB tonight. That's something I rarely see from any of our starters. When so many hitters are having subpar seasons, you have to realize that you start with the person who's supposed to help them. Yeah. I know. And I agree with him. I've been agreeing with him lol.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Didnt say it was Walker at all. It takes two to tango on this. I think Rowand hit some homers last year, signed a contract and wanted to prove he was worth it. It happens a lot. Its up to our managment as a whole to stop this type of s***. But underneath it all, you still hate Walker.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) So did 28 other people. What does that say about the poll when's it's 29-0? We've discussed it, get over it, your not proving anything. Ok, glad we cleared that up.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) The biggest problem I have seen is the tinkering of our hitters with their swings. Look at Rowand from last year, and compare where his hands are this year. Last year, his left elbow had a noticeble locked L, the elbow was up high and his bat was pretty much straight up with a tiny amount of wiggle to it. It was a very mechanical looking stance if anyone remembers it. As mechanical as it looked, his stroke was short and quick. His power was to right center and to left center. This year, Rowand has a different stance. His front elbow is bent and pointing down. His hands are tucked in more. His bat is inverted a bit. His swing now is more of a down stroke on the ball. I read earlier in the year on how he changed his swing to get more power. Now at the end of this year, his BA is down, his strikeouts are up and he cannot reach the outside pitch anymore. Maybe our hitters once they have success can be stopped from revamping their swings and f***ing their hitting up. He hit some homers last year, and probably thought, if I make this change I will hit over 30. Well I think it backfired. STOP f***ING WITH YOUR SWINGS, UNLESS YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS HITTING. Funny how it all starts with the Batting Coach with you lol.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) They're both leadoff hitters in an OF position. What is a good comparison for Pods then? What are you trying to compare?
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Did I say if Pods played 2B then he'd hit for 50HR then? Can you answer my original question as well, about the other corner OF's in the league that have hit for 0 HR and have an OPS higher than .705? Your not getting it. The comparisons are not things youd expect and that is why your vital power in LF point is moot. Pods has 0 Hrs but 60 SB's while Kent hits 40 Hr's and 100 RBI's. Those are not numbrs youd expect from people in their respective positions. The fact that im stating is that it doesnt matter what position you play DEFENSIVELY and it doesnt affect your ways OFFENSIVELY.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) It makes the difference though for a comparison between say Carl Crawford and Scott Podsednik. Carl Crawford is an athletic freak. He is about as swole as a body-builder yet as fast as a cheetah. Bad comparison.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) What does Pods do that's awfully special then if it doesn't show up on the stats? Please, we werw ALL was talkign about how great a job Pods does at taking pitches and disrupting pitchers on the basepaths and how he effects the pitches Gooch gets and how tought he was vs leftys....
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Scott Podsednik OBP in 2005 - .353 Willie Harris OBP in 2004 - .343 Pods lack of power, BA/RISP, OPS in a corner position, where power is VITAL, doesn't make up for his stolen base ability. That makes no sence. Playing a position in the field has NOTHING to do with how they bat. Scott Podsednik LF and Jeff Kent 2B. Compare the 2. Juan Pierre CF and Andruw Jones CF. Compare the 2. Or Jason Kendall C and Adrian Beltre 3B. Compare the 2.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) So how do you explain the surging Indians and Yankees? Fact is, Pods had his resting time and he had more than enough time to get back on track to do what he's supposed to do. He isn't doing it which makes him a liability. Mentality, desire, heart, attitude, managing....all things the Sox do not have right now.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) You don't think OPS is an important stat? Never said it wasn't an important stat. Stat's are overrated in baseball and I have said this many times and I hate to sound like Hawk but it's about what he does for the team that doesnt get recorded as a stat.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) I think what he's trying to say is that on a team with quite a few defense-first players, you can't have another LF that isn't a big offensive producer. For as great as Pods supposedly was, he never scored a ton of runs. Also, since when did an injured groin make you unable to draw a walk? I'm getting tired of hearing the excuse from some Sox people that the Pods injury has caused this slide. He's had plenty of time to get his groove back. I fear you underestimate the grind of 162 games on a body. 1st off, no one, NO ONE, is 100%. 2nd, the fact of the matter is that the team as a whole is slacking. Look at how it was clicking in the 1st half. The team lost that mentality and it has hampered everyones play.
  13. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) I say leave it up, eventually some troll or someone will pick #2 but I think it serves as a reminder that we all do want the Sox to succeed despite our criticisms. A playoff berth is success compared to going home after game #162. I agree.
  14. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Considering there's 9,500 of your negative posts on this site, I find it pretty refreshing. I've been here for over 2 years, GMAFB.
  15. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) Who the hell cares about that. Not all players are about power, dude. I really would have expected someone with your knowledge to know this. I don't know if you watch Sox gams through the internet or whatever, but Pods was freakin' amazing in the first half and there is a reason he bats #1, so he can get on base and steal bases which he did perfectly for a half a season until his injury! Does it matter if he plays OF, IF, C? Not really, you can get power players for any position nowadays. ^ Nail on Head
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) His offense? He is terrible with runners in scoring posittion. Without his legs his useless. How many triples does he have this season for a guy with his so called speed? How many corner OF's in the MLB have 0 HR's? And an OPS higher than .705? Sinc when are we basing someones abilities by his OPS and his Hr's?
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Our talent IS great. Our skill and ability to put it together and get our collective heads out of our asses is NOT GREAT. It is? You think Carl Everett is great? Jermaine Dye (who I agree has been a plus) is great? Joe Crede great? Juan Uribe great?? Yes, Paulie is great. I think AJ may be close to great. Aaron great? Pods GREAT? Give me a break. It's easy to blame the manager so I'll give in and won't type in any more on this thread. You win. Uuuum, can you tell me where I said that any certain player was great? No. I said talent. Every player has a talent, else they would not be in the f***ing MLB. Difficult concept? I dont think so. Carl Everett has talent. He has power and he is a vocal leader. Jermaine Dye has talent. Superior defense, good power. Joe Crede - Very cluth, EXCELLENt defense. Juan Uribe - strong arm, good D. Aaron - Awesome defense. Pods - Fastest guy in MLB, distracts pitcher, good bunter. Do you see that? Do you see how everyone has a certain skill they are very good at...wow! :headshake
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) KW has had no problem trading for those type of guys in the past. That is one of the problems....
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) You don't keep Pods just because he's cheap. He's not good enough to play CF defensively, yet he doesn't hit for enough power in a corner position in an offense that desperately need upgrades. I can tell you right now, there'd be about a 70-30 ratio for Sox fans in favor of trading Pods before Rowand. His offense makes up for his "lack of defense." And I am sure that he is not the only corner outfielder in the MLB that doesnt have power. GMAB. You want to upgrade? Getting rid of Pods is a downgrade unless you get a cant-miss offer for him.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Any other options you see on the FA market there Einstein? No, I'm just saying that the fact that you even considered putting those 2 on the list is just....horrible. But if washed up NL players is what the Sox are looking for, go for it.
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) He sucks. If he sucks, so does KW and Reinsdork and the co owners. Our talent is NOT GREAT! Our talent IS great. Our skill and ability to put it together and get our collective heads out of our asses is NOT GREAT.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Everyone has their own opinions, personally for me I definitely wouldn't get rid of Pods, when he's healthy he's a huge asset to this team. As far as Aaron, I'd be willing to bet that Anderson can atleast produce as much as Aaron has offensively this year, add the fact that Brian's a pretty good centerfielder(thought not as good as arow imo) and that aaron can bring some good talent in return, then that type of move makes a whole lot of sense to me. Oh, I agree with you there 100% but getting rid of Pods, who is cheap, is plain retarted to me. If we could package Aaron, El Duque, and Marte to a team willing to give us a good offensive player...do it.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Nomar Garciaparra. Erubiel Durazo. Reggie Sanders. Mike Piazza. Daryle Ward. Jacque Jones. Preston Wilson. Jeromy Burnitz. Most likely if it's anyone to DH from FA it's gonna be one of these guys. The cost for Helton is gonna be too great.
  24. Can someone honestly tell me why we want to get rid of Pods again? The ENTIRE team is slumping. This is a team effort. Do not blame Pods. Do not blame Aaron. Do not blame Dye. This is a team...not a group of individuals. If one falls, they all fall. If one triumphs, they all triumph. I certainly didn't hear you guys saying we should get rid of Pods when he stol 40 bases in the 1st half and was terrorizing pitchers on the basepaths. GMAFB. We let losses get into our heads too much. Pods is an asset to this team. Wow...
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) SF, why was this poll necessary? It does nothing but bring more negativity. I was proven wrong and I am quite surprised. The mods can delete this now.
