QUOTE(JohnStamos @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) If McCarthy is on, he can be lights out (like in ST). But he is not nearly consistent enough to start in the majors right now. In a few years, he will be but you cannot ask him to go from A to the majors in one year. So, what? He is a Spring Training pitcher? Can you guarantee me that he will be consistent in the future? He is highly overrated IMO. He has a great Spring Training and all of the sudden, he is the best Sox prospect ever!

QUOTE(JohnStamos @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) I'm not one to compare trades normally, but the White Sox were desperate to find a starter at that point. There is no desperation here...we are 13 games ahead and still have one of the best number 4 starters in the league. Freddy also was having a good year to that point unlike Schmidt. Also, every player that we sent to Seattle is still relatively young and Reed could be an all-star in the next couple years very easily. So your saying "f*** being succesful now. Let's not upgrade. Besides, this is the year, if any, that we could go deep in the playoffs. Let's wait for a questionable pither to pan out and see how he does in 2 or 3 years and hope we do well then!" :headshake

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) How many players have performed well in Spring Training and have then gone on to do nothing else in their MLB career? 24,468...... :headshake

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) Trade Morse for Alex Rodriguez. Would they be above .500? :headshake Oh my f***ing god. How does that backup your point? It's not gonna happen so why even make that example? And yes, there team would be better.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) McCarthy would have been in the top 15-20 prospects of baseball at the end of last season, and he had the most K's in all of the minors last season IIRC. How can his stock be higher now than at the end of ST? So what the hell is your stance?????

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) IT WAS SPRING f***ING TRAINING. EXACTLY! No f***ing pressure and he strived. Then, he blew ass in he minors and blew ass in the bigs. It was still the whole damn Rangers line up!

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Olivo is back with the M's, and they won't trade him because of his arm and defense. Reed is in his 1st full season in the majors, and yes Morse has been hitting well and it's hard to say no success rate to the team when it's not like Seattle's any good anyway. EXACTLY! He has done nothing to help them. They still suck.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) Because of the likes of Dontrelle Willis and Mark Prior, every SP prospect that gets called up now is automatically expected to perform on the MLB level and that's unfair (especially if they're not ready). This time last year he was pitching for the Winston - Salem Warthogs. Now people want to trade him because he didn't pitch well in the majors. So what the f*** happened? He was AMAZING in Spring Training. I still remember the game he had against the Rangers with 8 of their 9 starters in the lineup and he shut them down. What happened? In Hawk's words: "Don't tell me what he's done. Tell me when he's done it."

QUOTE(JohnStamos @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) McCarthey has struggled, but he was rushed into a situation where he was not ready enough to succeed in. I have no doubt that he will amount to a good MLB pitcher in a couple years. I really don't think we should give up someone who has his whole future for someone who had been great but is now somewhat questionable. If this moved guarenteed us a good showing in the playoffs I'd do it, but I really think Schimdt is not the answer and that there is no surefire answer in this year's trading market. Look at last year's Freddy Garcia trade. We were all screaming about how Olivo/Morse/Reed was such a steep price and how Reed would be an All-Star type player and that Olivo will be a great catcher. Look how it turned out. Olivo got sent down. Reed has been good but not great. Morse has been hitting well I guess but to no success rate to the team.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) So because B-Mac's amounted to nothing yet, he's automatically tradeable? FWIW McCarthy's last start he only gave up 2 ER in 6IP, and the game was at Charlotte where he has been struggling. It's pretty much giving up 3 major league pitchers for 1, because Brandon McCarthy WOULD be a starter on some teams in the majors. Like I said, I am not giving up on him. But, he got his chance, in 3 different places and has only been successful when it doesn't count at all, Spring Training. Trade when the value is high.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) B-Mac dominating in the minors was almost the worst thing for him, it raised everyone's expectations for him and now since he didn't perform accordingly, people want to trade him. 5 years from now, how good is he going to be? Rupe dominated in A and AA ball, but hasn't been as good in AAA, still he could be ready by the start of next season considering the Rangers' need for SP. Just remember if you include McCarthy and Contreras in a deal for Schmidt, you've given up too much, they're not even going to offer that for A.J Burnett. Considering all things, including KW's prospect-trading-track-record, and numbers and everything, IN MY OPINION, Schmidt would improve this team for that price. -
QUOTE(JohnStamos @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) No...you would have to be an idiot to not want Jason Schmidt on your team over Count or El Duque. But at his asking price, the move would cost a great deal for what could amount to simply a minimal upgrade. Shingo will be gone anyway, BMAc has amounted to nothing yet. I;m not giving up on him but all we have really seen from him is 1 1/2 good starts and an excellent ST. Come on, he's been getting knocked around in the minors. And Count, well, he is the topping on the cake for SF. They want 2 ML pitchers, take Count and Shingo.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) What about his velocity? All I'm saying is don't automatically expect he's going to do that when he pitches at the Cell when you have a look at his BAA and away splits. With a slider and change like his, his velocity is not a s big an issue. It's not like he relies COMPLETELY on his fastball. Look at MB or Maddux, not great velocity by any means but location and control. Schmidt can afford to be a bit low in velocity but from what I have read/heard, his velocity is on the rise.
-
QUOTE(JohnStamos @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) So let's give up a bunch of talent for someone who has been injured early in the year and has provided less output than someone we already have on the team right? Schmidt has not been that great this year and, even though I think he would better than Count/Duke, I fail to see the reason to trade for a mystery player when you have a 13 game lead in your division. A little contradictory, no?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) Right now that may not seem to be the case, but for example we've given up 5 prospects for Carl Everett in 2 seperate trades. Francisco's had success, Majewski is this season, Rauch was going to be a starter for Washington before he got injured, and Josh Rupe is dominating in the minors. Just give it a few years is all I'm saying. Ok, I give up. Rauch, just because he was to BE as starter by NO means, means he is successful. Rupe is dominating in the minors. A.) What level? B.) BMac was dominating in ST and got knocked around in the minors....means NADA. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Would you say Schmidt is completely healthy right now? As provided by Milkman, 2.77 ERA in last 6 starts sound damn healthy to me...

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) You said El Duque doesn't get flustered after 1 bad pitch and has confidence unlike JC. If that's not you trying to say he's better than Contreras without actually saying it, I don't know what is. FWIW would you rather have El Duque or Contreras? Postseason: El Duque Otherwise: Contreras -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) How highly rated was Quintero? And how long ago was the Alex Fernandez trade? Quintero was rated mid-level IIRC and both of those guys were involved in the same deal. Qunitero/Fernandez to San Diegofor the one and only D'Angelo Jimenez. 2002..... -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) You're argument overall is just dumb, I don't really know how to say it any different. The Duke works just as slow if not slower then Contreras, throws a ton of pitches like Jose yet has had tons of run support, so explain that one to me Einstein. Alrighty Einstein. El Duque has confidence. El Duque doesn't have long AB's. El Duque doesn't make a mistake on one pitch and then get scared to throw that pitch the rest of the game. -
