  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) He could definitely have a few more. And who blew that for him. The offense. When? After he was taken out of the game.
  2. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) This year he has been. A 4.80 ERA in a pitcher's park in a pitcher's league will do that to you. How about pitching injured for the 1st 1/4 of a year? Let's see how Count does pitching with an injury huh?
  3. I hate to start a new thread but I have to know everyone's opinion. Schmidt or Contreras....right now!
  4. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) ROFLMFAO So pitchers score for guys that work fast. Which is perfectly proved by Mark Buehrles ranking of 87th in run support. You cant argue against 11 wins....
  5. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) LOL, and you can pretty much expect him to give up around 5 runs per game. I can't believe you are still arguing this. You are correct in saying it's not a toss up, most of the times he is going to be ineffective, unlike Contreras. :headshake There is no use in arguing. You're making Schmidt sound like he is a horrible pitcher.
  6. How many can honestly say that whenever Contreras take's the bump, they can expect a dominant, not even, a good, outing.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) Haven't said it yet, don't know if I will in the future. f***ing asswhole
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Only thing I can really say now is that you have to throw all the stats out when Jose takes the bump, and just see what happens. It's a toss up everytime he takes the mound, which isn't what I want going down the stretch, but O'well. Go Get'em next start Jose. Exactly. Schmidt is not a "toss-up" whenever he goes out. You can expect him to be successful and you can expect him to work hard. Contreras, not so much.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) You'll give him Francisco?? You don't have to give him anything. You asked him about Sox prospects that have turned out, and those 4 names have so far. Like Dabby said, Morse has hit the cover off the ball when given AB's, Gary has been a key to the Nats being where they are, and Reed might be a Top 5, Top 3 OF in the leauge with his D. You're going to say that Majewski, Morse, and Reed are GOOD major league players?
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) No hitters don't hit better for pitchers because they are trying hard. Are you kidding!?! Did you ever see Livan Hernandez pitch for the Giants back in the day. He worked so damn slow and so lazily that the defense was on their heels the entire game and completely out of it. Look at MB, he works fast, get's out of innings, gets the batters in the box....look at his successfulness.
  11. Dippin' Dots, Nacho's, Hot Dogs, Pizza, and Curly Fries.
  12. Well, in leau of csf79's statement, I could also argue that Schmidt would be a breath of fresh air to the offense. Schmidt works faster and keep's his defense in the game. The offense would get the feeling that "Man, we should really work for this guy 'cuz he's busting his butt out there to get us off the field and in the batter's box."
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) But El Duque was already with the team, it's not like he's a new addition or anything. You don't think Francisco was successful last season? He's was the Rangers freakin best set-up man. Morse has hit unbelievably in his start in the majors, Majewski's been a good reliever for the Nats, and Reed's been better than advertised defensively. But El Duque was injured and technically, he is an addition because he has been gone on 2 15-day DL stints.I'll give you Francisco but the other 3, not some much. And compared to the total number of prospects that didn't pan out for the Sox or when traded from the Sox, I'll take my chances.
  14. I guess I just strongly agree with Milkman Delivers in the fact that I highly dislike Contreras....that is all.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) All I'm going to say is your credibility has really went down after all these Contreras posts and I mean a lot. So you're taking DBAH0's and jphat's side???
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) El Duque doesn't come into this because he was signed previously. And just because B-Mac who has half a season of experience above AA, doesn't come in and set the world on fire in the majors at a very young age, you want to trade him already? Oh and here are some prospects; Frankie Francisco Garry Majewski Jeremy Reed Mike Morse Those are successful to you???? And yes, El Duque CAN be brought in because essentially, he took Shingo's spot.
  17. There is no use in arguing if you honestly believe that a 100% Schmidt is better than a 100% Contreras...
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Padres have always hit Schmidt hard. One of the big advantages, if we did get Schmidt, is that he would be a new look against a majority of the AL players. Yes, it's not like getting an AL pitcher and throwing him out there.
  19. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Did you fall off the face of the earth last weekend before the All Star break. I would be more concerned with A's. Uuuum, no. This is not wrapped up yet. As you can clearly see, it is July 19th. Look at what the Astros did last year after adding Beltran.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) He's not the only pitcher to have postseason experience. Hideo Nomo has postseason experience, does that make him good? He has confidence? Many other pitchers may have confidence in their abilities, doesn't mean they're automatically going to put up great performances though. And why would you include our best pitching prospect along with Contreras and Shingo just for Schmidt while we're at it? Because Shingo will be gone anyway. So basically it's Count/BMac for Schmidt/El Duque. BMac was less than spectacular in his performance in the bigs. Besides, when has a prospect KW traded become very successful and up to par with his expectation? And are you seriously comparing Schmidt to Nomo???
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) It's like you don't know how to read. It's amazing. Coming into tonight Contreras ranked 20th in the league in ERA. Ahead of Randy Johnson, Jeremy Bonderman, and many others. If you figure there are 75 pitchers in the league, he would be in the 2nd starter percentile. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Are you high? The only reason his ERA is of that cliber is because one day he is great and the next three games he sucks ass. It balances out....hence, it is called Earned Run AVERAGE.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Based on this season's performances so far, I'd pick Contreras, based on numbers, however if Schmidt comes back into the dominating pitcher he was, of course you take Schmidt.
  23. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Right this second? With everything we know about them? Jose Contreras in a heartbeat. His numbers are better in every way.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Compare him to his performances last season. He has more favorable splits than Jason Schmidt, not saying he's a great pitcher but to say he's not a good starter when we've had to put up with the likes of Dan Wright and Jason Grilli starting for us over the past few seasons should prove something. The simple fact of the matter is that Schmidt >>>>> Contreras. Period. There is no argument. Schmidt has postseason experience. Successful at that. Schmidt knows how to pitch. He has confidence. Contreras is highly overrated. Arguing that Contreras is better than Schmidt is like arguing that Glendon Rusch is better than Freddy Garcia.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) What has lead you to believe that Contreras is a good pitcher? Didn't think so...
