  1. Whoever said that it's way different for a lone fan to have to move away versus a sports franchise to leave its hometown is 1000000% correct. The White Sox could move next door to me and they would mean nothing to me because they would no longer be my hometown team, my Chicago White Sox. No ifs, ands, or buts. I would probably follow the Rays more closely, but mostly I would feel a sense of betrayal so deeply that the game would never mean as much to me again.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) The Japanese have invented an Internet 'Kissing Machine'. Oooh, and just in time for Mothers Day!!!
  3. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Going to longman and eagle for my birthday dinner today, so excited!! Anyone care to recommend me a beer from this menu? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and consumed http://longmanandeagle.com/wp-content/uplo...2/beer_menu.pdf Old Style
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Jim, when I read your posts I can't help but think of this song by band I am a big fan of. No offense, I mean this in the nicest possible way. Catchy tune. . . and downer lyrics.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Evan Williams is a definite mixer, sometimes a shooter if the pregame needs to get rowdy. I guess I loved Sauza Silver because I was comparing it to Cuervo which is absolutely disgusting IMO, but I'll give that a try next time, thanks for the recommendation! Speaking of cheap liquor, when I was in Holland I saw this bottle of scotch on sale so I picked it up for a pregame drink for when my brother was meeting up with me. It was called Glen Talloch, was described only as "very old, and rare" with no actual year on it. Considering the price, it was actually a hell of a cheap scotch, I was surprised by how smooth it was and the flavor was decent. My brother, who is pretty big into whiskeys, was blown away that it was actually a decent drink. We kept joking before opening it how bad it was going to be haha. Glen Talloch is owned by Boomsma and is the number one blended scotch whisky in the Netherlands. I don't think I've ever seen it stateside but I could be wrong. From the online description and reviews it sounds like a low-smoke, innocuous blend. I neglected to ask if you had a chance to try any jenever while you were in Holland and if so what you thought of them.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 2, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) Went to Binny's just now, and they had my favorite Belgian Strong Ale onsale in 750ml bottles, picked up a few as gifts for friends who appreciate great beer. Also bought a few handles of my favorite cheap tequila and bourbon (Sauza Silver and Evan Williams, respectively). I love the prices of liquor in the states compared to in Europe, so much cheaper. I have nothing bad to say about Evan Williams as a mixing bourbon (my personal preference is Four Roses yellow label or Old Forrester if I can't find Four Roses). But for MAYBE $2 more you can do a lot better than a cruddy mixto tequila like Sauza Silver. ANY 100% de agave would be better, and you can find several right at $20. Give El Jimador a shot. It is now once again a 100% de agave and it is the number 1 selling blanco tequila in Mexico so it certainly is authentic enough. At least try a mixto side by side with a 100% de agave one evening at a bar so you can taste the difference.

    QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 1, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Haven't been there yet Still many places I want to go to, including a hiking trip into the Alps, and a trip into the Sahara desert. Then you can see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) Wasn't that reward for killing Osama something like 20 million? $25M in the first months and years after 9/11. Unfortunately for the operative that made the kill I am assuming the offer is null and void if you are employed by the US military or intelligence agencies.
  9. So to clarify just so people reading this thread later don't get wrong info, The President's address confirmed that this happened earlier today — not a week or so ago as had been posted earlier. The intel that had started to pan out beginning back around August (according to Obama) had escalated to the point where the president was apparently involved with 5 briefings in the intel over the last 2 weeks, culminating in the decision that there was actionable intelligence and an order given on Friday to execute the operation.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 2, 2011 -> 12:00 AM) The Bush Statement? yes
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 1, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) Where at? CNN
  12. I assumed President Obama contacted GWB earlier in the day to give him the news, and that was just confirmed. GWB wrote a statement that was just read that was short, well-composed and very fitting.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 1, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) s***. Why even bother with a 2012 Presidential election after this news. The election is over. Meh, it won't take a single news cycle for the Right to do a full court pres to try to absolutely minimize any role the administration played in finally getting the guy.
  14. CNN showing a gathering outside the White House spontaneously bursting into the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America — very moving and very cool.
  15. Any word yet on how it happened??
  16. Eternity, or something like it.
