  1. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) Appleton 12 year is the first rum I cam actually drink straight. Still, I prefer it in Mai tais and daiquiris. A very good sipper for sure, and a perfect Mai tai rum. Enjoy.
  2. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) http://www.drinkupny.com/ I think they have the rum you are looking for. Yep, and free shipping over $100. I'm thinking Christmas present to myself!

  4. Chanting Boo-urns is highly unlikely unless you are Hans Moleman.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) UHHHHHHHH the Germans are mad at me, I'm so scared, ooh the Germans. Uh-oh the Germans are coming to get me oooh don't let the Germans come after me. No, they're so big and strong, the Germans, the Germans. At least I recognized the Montgomery Burns quote.
  6. Will probably wait to see it after Thanksgiving. Might take the family to see Megamind tonight before it leaves theaters.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) You did post it last year and I have been dying to try it ever since. I tried a basic hot buttered rum but found that using water lacked something. I wanted to try it again with apple cider instead. Best part is that I have a crock pot now! I've been similarly underwhelmed by single-serving hot buttered rums, but this one really meshes together despite it being mostly water on a volumetric basis. I assume it comes down to the long simmer time in the crock.
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Drinking my first authentic eggnog (raw egg). Simple Rumdood recipe with heavy cream, Appleton VX, sugar, and brandy garnished with cinnamon and nutmeg. Pretty tasty although it could use another flavor. Could sub in Appleton 12 year but I think I would maybe add some vanilla. But this is a nice base drink to build on. Rumdood Matt's recipe is quite good. Unless I'm making a big batch (which I haven't in years), this is pretty much the one I make. If you are looking for a warm holiday tipple, my favorite is this crock pot hot buttered rum recipe (I think I posted this last year). 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter or margarine 1 pinch salt 3 sticks cinnamon (I use 5 short canella sticks) 6 whole cloves (I use 10) 1/2 teaspoon ground fresh nutmeg 2 cups rum (don't get extravagant on the rum for this one, Appleton's V/X is more than adequate and it really also works well with budget Appleton Special or Mount Gay Eclipse which is what I use.) heavy cream -- whipped, for topping ground nutmeg -- for topping Put all ingredients, except rum and cream, and nutmeg into crockpot. Add 2 quarts hot water. Stir well. Cover pot and cook on LOW for 3 hours. Add rum; stir to blend. Serve from pot in warm mugs with a scoop of whipped cream and a dusting of nutmeg. This recipe is adapted from CDKitchen for Colonial Hot Buttered Rum (http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/51/C...d_Rum1039.shtml) makes about 15 servings. We make it ahead of time without the rum and bring it out for cold weather camping, adding rum to individual servings heated up in the campstove tea kettle.
  9. X-Catholics still like to chime in on religious discussions now and then.
  10. Prince of the 'Buster is sorta' cool, like being King of the Dips***s. At least that's what Farmer Ted would have said.
  11. Funny Bone would be Smokin' Hot otherwise.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) I have purchased so much Miller High Life in my life, there is no way I could leave it off a list. You broke my heart Fredo.
  13. To be fair, a great many of my favorite beers are widely available and totally acceptable to most beer drinkers. My Thanksgiving family camping trip is coming up and the beers in tow will be Sierra Pale, Sam Adams Boston Lager, Hoegarden, Newcastle Brown, and Pilsner Urquell. Not a snooty beer in the bunch imo, and as widely available as they all are I think they all rate as world-class beers.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Really? Cover everything with gold, and see if it burns. Sell your gold to a moron at a mall kiosk — it's fun and easy.
  15. Don't get caught skimming funds to blow at Bingo night.
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 08:02 AM) ^^^ I beasically limited mine to beers I felt were distributed widely enough that any poster would have had a chance to try it. I didn't go quite that broad, but I mostly tried to adhere to that sort of rule of thumb while still having my picks reflect what I believe are excellent beers.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) I don't get that. I figured it was my favorite beers, not my favorite beers that can be found at 7-11. Yeah, but there is a reasonable compromise that I think a lot of the participants also understand. Two of my favorite beer experiences were drinking a 1986 Silver Anniversary Thomas Hardy Ale that had been cellared for 11 years and drinking a fresh-off-the-boat unfiltered Aventinus Bavarian wheat doppelbock gravity-poured from a wooden cask. Also up there is a Greene-King Olde Suffolk cask ale I had in a pub in Bath both on the day it was tapped and then two days later after the perfect amount of oxidization had worked its magic on the live real ale. Now I'm pretty sure those are beer experiences unique to me, and many other posters probably have similar experiences in their personal top beer lists. But if we all populated our lists with those sorts of picks there wouldn't be a whole lot of commonality to the lists and not much to talk about. My thoughts anyway.
