  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Yeah, hard to argue. I don't know that McCown is going to be the savior or anything but at that price, I think it's a reasonable move. Have him bridge the gap like you said and build towards the future. Glennon may be capable of more but I don't think he's capable of significantly more. He'll be the 4th best QB in the NFC South by a wide, wide margin until Brees retires. Not going to make the playoffs many times when you're starting the worst QB in the division. Manziel/Bortles/Murray or Mettenburger will be the 4th best QB in the division too in 2014 and probably 2015 if the Bucs draft them. But atleast there is the possibility of one of those 4 surpassing one of those guys in the next few years. Or at the very worst, they close the gap significantly between those three teams.
  2. QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Glennon is only 24 and put up better raw numbers in his first year than McCown had ever put up excluding last year. I'm not a Bucs fan or anything, but it just seems harsh to call a 24 year old that just up a season with 19 Tds to 9 INTs a backup at best. Also, previous to last season "backup at best" pretty much defined Josh McCown. The only reason I like the signing of McCown is because now I wont have to see Glennon starting in 2014. I'd rather see the Bucs draft a QB at #7 if Manziel or Bortles is available and throw them into the fire from the start or draft Aaron Murray or the LSU kid in the 2nd/3rd round and let those two sit for a year and learn. Glennon wasnt good. I watched every game of the Bucs and there is nothing that screams about Glennon being franchise type QB. Great, he had a 2-1 TD/INT ratio. He was also called Captain Checkdown for a reason. Glennon ranked 37th out of 37 QBs in yards per pass attempt. He is a statue back there with zero mobility to get outside of the pocket. An average arm with no accuracy throwing the ball down field. He still led the Bucs to the 32nd ranked offense last year. As a Bucs fan, I have no problem with keeping Glennon around as a backup to fill in for a week or three if need be because of injury. But from the moment the new GM and Lovie was brought in, they have been basically telling the media Glennon wasnt going to be the future.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) Wasn't Glennon a pretty early pick? 3rd round pick I believe, another reason why Schiano and the old GM are out of football.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) We'll he's apparently the starter so I think THATS crazy. Who else are the Bucs suppose to start? Glennon is a backup at best. The Bucs will probably draft a Qb in the first three rounds and McCown will bridge that gap.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) Only if they end up cutting him, and he could be signed to a more reasonable contract. I wouldn't trade for him and take on his $16M salary. Bucs are trying to work his contract.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) Then he's a f***ing idiot. #careerover Little harsh? The guy was unconscious, he probably snapped back to consciousness and had no clue what happened.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Dallas Stars' Rich Peverly, who has had issues with an irregular heartbeat, collapsed on the bench tonight and was rushed to the hospital. They say he is conscious and will be OK, but scary stuff. The game was postponed. http://deadspin.com/cbj-stars-game-current...rley-1540912374 Scary. Glad that the news is that he's doing ok.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) So Tampa Bay is apparently interested in moving their franchise to the Arena League... that's a horrible picture because they are still using the pewter color for the pants/helmet. That pretty much looks like black.
  9. If I was selecting a QB, my ranking of the top 3 would be 1.Manziel 2.Bortles 3.Bridgewater
  10. The only time a Canadian based hockey fan can celebrate winning a championship is once every four February's.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) I thought the USA played hard early, had some good chances (including the first penalty shot for Kane) but then once Finland scored they had a huge let down and have been thoroughly outplayed since. Kane scores on his second penalty shot and this game probably takes on a whole different life. I think that was the back breaker emotionally for the team.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) This result isn't that surprising. The Finns are much happier with a bronze, while the game vs Canada was the most important for the US. Good for old man Teemu. Hopefully Kaner explodes on the NHL when he gets back after this tourney. The Finland-Sweden game is just as big as the US-Canada game in Europe. Seems like over in Europe, getting a medal is the goal in these tournaments. Over here its about beating individual teams. Beat Russia, defeat Canada. But let's not act like this team just rolled over from the start today. It just got away from them in the 3rd. They couldnt score yesterday and so it's not shocking that they didnt do much vs Rask. They didnt look great offensively vs Russia either.
  13. And the Olympic run comes to a crashing halt. Happy for Tuukka. Go Sweden.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) So Canada gets gold in women's curling, men's curling, women's hockey, and almost certainly men's hockey. Quite an Olympics for them. I dont know about that. I may throw a few dollars on Sweden at +150.
  15. Good thing I don't care for women team sports or I'd be upset.
  16. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) The Red Sox opened a new complex in Ft Meyers a couple of years ago, and their stadium resembles Fenway. Haven't been but if sounds pretty cool. my dad plays in some 48 and over league and they had some tournament down there last fall. he played in that stadium and from the pictures, the green wall has a couple of rows of seats inside the monster with a netting in front. Looked really cool.
  17. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) It's the scoring system the NHL should have, but doesn't. they did something on the XM NHL station a few weeks ago(first part of January?) where they awarded 3pts for regulation wins, 2 for OT/SO wins and 1 for OT/SO losses. The standings were basically the same in the East and Dallas at the time would've been ahead of Phoenix I believe. So things may have changed a little more since. The Puck Daddy did this in the beginning of December and the only division race that was altered was the Metro, and that was when the Metro was an absolute trainwreck. link I'd just prefer seeing ties brought back in. 2 points for reg/OT win, 1 point for OT loss, 0 for reg loss. No shootouts.
  18. Unless my math is wrong, the top part of the bracket is going to be brutal if the Finland-Canada game ends in regulation. Canada,Finland and Russia will all be in that part of the bracket. I'd rather take my chances on against Sweden right now in a 2/3 matchup.
  19. Well my job shifted my territory so I'll be covering the Lakeland-Tampa down to Ft Myers part of Florida, which is home to a lot of Grapefruit League stadiums. I'm thinking of going to a few games over during the next month but was wondering if there are any stadiums I should actually go out of my way to see? Been to: Ed Smith in Sarasota but that was in the late 80s, early 90s. I guess they've renovated it since. Disney-Braves Kissimmee-Astros Winter Haven-Indians. Of course they dont play there Lakeland-Tigers. played in the stadium, never watched a game there. Seems pretty nice? Any suggestions?
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Good thing Russia won that shootout. Had they lost, it was very likely they were facing the US in the quarterfinals. had they lost, that team probably would've made a quick exit from the tournament. Seems like a team not handling all the pressure well. Maybe this win will get them going now.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Sam was the best defensive player in the SEC and projected as a 3rd round pick. How is that marginal? I'd love him on the Bears with our defensive woes and his motor. MMQB he's the defensive player of the year in the best conference but he's projected in the middle rounds at the earliest. Why is that? He had what, 12 sacks? 3 vs Arkansas St, 3 vs Vandy and 3 vs Florida in a 4 week stretch. He was getting his stats against the weaker teams he faced.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Marginal player probably isn't the right way to describe it. There are some who see serious star potential and others who see a nice talent with no position. It isn't like your average "not sure if this guy is good enough" anyone saying serious star potential is just caught up in the moment.
  23. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) The not being able to play in the NFL wouldn't be an issue. The gay thing obviously would, but it wouldn't drop a guy to being undrafted. That's what I meant. He sounds like a marginal NFL player at best from reading articles. The media sideshow will probably go away by midseason but is he good enough for a team to deal with the circus during training camp/preseason when an organization is trying to figure out its football team?
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) And that was a huge reason he was put on the team. Some incredible moves in that shootout. That Kovalchuk soft wrister...oh my. To pull that move with that pressure was amazing. Reminded me of the Zidane PK goal vs Italy in the Wold Cup Final in 2006.
  25. Have fun slaying hot Olympic girls tonight Oshie.
