  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) That wasn't my point, however, yes, I'd say that's a true statement. Every poll I have seen says this, in one slightly different way or another. "Happy" is of course a subjective terms. But I have seen polls over and over again showing the majority of Americans favor some sort of major health care reform. Those polls come from all over the place. If it wasn't true, someone would have at least come out with a poll using strong methodology to show that - and yet, they haven't. What does that tell you? Really though, my point was the same as its been when discussing this with you. Your method of reasoning on polls is such that you have decided to bury your head in the sand, so that you can believe whatever you want, because you don't have to be bothered with actual data that may show your beliefs to be inaccurate. So a poll that says a majority of Americans favor healthcare reform = people are not happy with their insurance. I would be a seller of that statement. How about someone who is happy with their insurance but wants tort reform so they do not have to subsidize the scum bag lawyers.? Definitely a person unhappy with their insurance. I would be in that category.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) Socially she actually was, fiscally - not so much. But being a fiscal conservative and a social liberal (especially in respect to things like gay marriage) puts her a lot closer to John Galt status than many of the teabaggers that venerate Ayn Rand these days. If I were her, I'd be pissed - but she literally fell on her sword for the party, and I'm guessing that she might not have made an endorsement had Hoffman's reaction been a bit more gracious. Instead, this is what he says. Scozzafava literally ceded the floor to him, all but ensuring the Republicans hold this seat in what is one of the few GOP districts left in the northeast. And he couldn't even say thanks. Owens did, though. Scozzafava was chosen to run under the GOP banner because the GOP bosses in her district thought she was most likely to win. She is the definition of a moderate, endorsed by the Working Families party and by Newt Gingrich. And until yesterday, the largest newspaper in the district. (Like Scozzafava, they moved their endorsement to the Democrat over the weekend.) About two thirds of her voters will probably defect to Owens tomorrow, most pundits think. If that's true, the Republicans just lost another safe seat for the sake of ideological purity, and they did it in a spectacular fashion. I heard 2/3 of her voters were R's and 1/3 were likely D's or I's. So the shift might not be as severe as one would think. And again anyone who votes for a person because of an endorsement from someone else needs to have their head examined.

  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) This is new: Homeowners who buy a new principal residence after living in their current home for at least the last five years can claim up to $6,500. Before, it was just first-timers. That probably is why it costs more. We'll see if this passes. I believe they are attaching this to the unemployment extension bill. So it will pass. Good through the end of March.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) But if a majority of your constituents are for something and you're against it because you or your spouse will benefit from the status quo then I have a problem with that. And you are assuming that was a legit poll. Polls can say what you want them to say.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) Still hard to say on the stimulus money at this point. If by fundamentals you mean employment, and credit position among consumers and businesses, then I agree that things are still very messed up. I think the bounce we've seen in some areas - housing, consumer spending, consumer confidence (though that corrected down recently), GDP - are indicative of things stabilizing. SS2K5 might call that a dead cat bounce, though that may not be the most accurate description here. I'm sticking with what I've said in recent months. The key is employment and housing. If the UE numbers stay near where they are or rise a little more, then I think we'll keep our footing, and see real growth in 2010, though slowly. And while housing will probably fall back a bit off the temporary bump we've seen, as long as it doesn't dip significantly below where it was in August-ish, I think that's an OK sign as well. Those would indicate to me that we're not likely to see a double-dip. My biggest LONG term concern remains that we are spending a ton of tax money in the wrong places. These are not good long term investments. With the Fed done purchasing MBS's mortgage rates should start their climb. This in turn, imo, will crimp the next round of gov't stimulus, i.e., the home buyer credit extension. Why can't they let housing find its own bottom naturally? It is going to anyway, and they can save a lot of people a lot of money if they let the market find equilibrium.
  7. Why should this surprise anyone: http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...jY4YmRiYWUyMjQ=
  8. Also the GDP deflator fell from 1.4 to .8. This articficially props up GDP. Not to mention the juicing provided by the gov't. So take these numbers with a grain of salt.
  9. http://blogs.knoxnews.com/silence/archives...s_oversta.shtml So with three small examples we have cut the govt's bogus jobs saved/created number by 10%. WTG. Keep up the good work. More Stimulus!
  10. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Roung three for GMAC bailout anyone? What a joke. Shut the f***er down already. Tell GMAC the housing mkt has bottomed. I would like to see the results of RESCAP, DITECH, and the annoying commercials ALLY bank. ..Can you say new lows 2010?
  11. Roung three for GMAC bailout anyone? What a joke. Shut the f***er down already.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) The difference is technical only, really it is much worse, because he is putting the bill into a situation where he knows it will pass. At the end of the day, everyone is saying that Lieberman's duty as a Democrat is more important than his job as a Representative, which is insane. If he doesn't believe in a bill he knows he is going to vote against, why should he cast a vote that he knows will lead to its passage? He is voting against the bill because it will kill the insurers in Hartford, no? At least that is what I would think he is thinking.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) It's probably also worth noting that there were more cloture votes on Judges during the Clinton years than during the Bush years. If the Filibuster is treated like it was in the 60's, where you actually had to do something to hold up a bill, then it'd be far more interesting. It's the fact that it can now be applied without doing anything that totally shakes up the system. Ask Estrada how his cloture vote turned out? Oh wait..he didn't get a cloture vote. God forbid the first Supreme Court Hispanic be a Republican pick. Ask Durbin he was the point man on this injustice.
  14. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28788.html Laughing at this, because Schumer was on T.V yesterday saying Reid is the best vote counter there is. Yeah after losing 13 of his own on the Doc fix vote last week, he sure is..
  15. http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/10...f_Congress.html Yeah he is a real peach. Call someone a whore = outstanding member of Congress. GMAFB
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) It is patently absurd to blame Obama or Bush for slowness of getting out flu vaccines. \ I am not. I am blaming the inefficiency of gov't in general.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) LOL, it's the government's fault that this particular virus doesn't grow as quickly in mass production facilities as other flu viruses. How long did they know swine flu was going to hit the U.S.? (-12 months? Seems like a pretty good head start, don't ya think?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) LOL, it's the government's fault that this particular virus doesn't grow as quickly in mass production facilities as other flu viruses. It was in 2004 when the Dems blamed Bush.
  19. Lets hope the flu vaccine boondogle is not a harbinger of things to come, i.e. gov't healthcare. Because so far the response has been pitiful. The administration promised in July that 80-120 million doses would be ready by mid-October. But only 16.5 million doses have become available. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...9102603487.html
  20. Chris Matthews did call the peolple on FOX racists last night. Real professional.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) I dont really see the MSNBC NEWS department being as politically active as Fox News NEWS department, but I do believe their commentators are getting close to Fox News level. I used to watch MSNBC before and through the primary and election season. But during that time the organization, and specifically the commentators, have moved very left and that bothers me. I still say Fox News is more to the right than MSNBC is to the left, but MSNBC isnt far behind. CNN is largely my primary source of cable news coverage because I do think they off the most Fair and Balanced coverage of the big 3. MSNBC is opinion from 4 p.m. until midnight. There is no news. You could probably throw the 3:00 p.m. hoour in there too. Whereas , Fox at least broadcasts news at 5:00 and 6:00 every night.
  22. Can someone explain how the CBO can score an outline of a bill when they have no idea which/how many states will opt in/out of this plan? It is nonsensical.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Actually, that's not really true. Cutting back on state aid would have meant thousands more government layoffs from various states. Which wpould have been a good thing. Bloated state and federal payrolls are a huge problem that will not go away. I still have not heard how these states are going to pay for the cadillac retirement plans they give their workers. Without cutting benefits I think they should mandate no benefits before age 65, at least. When more than 2/3 and sometimes 4/5 of your budget is consumed by payrolls and benefits, action is needed. But we don't want to offend the unions now do we?....
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) It does seem odd that if you search Google for any articles in News with the key words here, the only articles that come up are from blogs and the Wash Times. No actual news sources. I'll reserve judgement until an actual journalist covers the story. Especially since, reading the linked article, you will note the complete lack of any official statement of any kind - just suppostiion from the writer. Holds breath for a record two weeks, waiting for MSM to cover story, finally passes away.
  25. 13 fellow Dems just gave Reid the finger on budget gimmickry. Is that a word? fits the subject. Oh well...
