QUOTE (Cubano @ Nov 2, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) They were product of the aluminum bat era and a lesser international quality competition except the USA college teams and San Juan Senators game. The new guys have played with wooden bats only and against better competition. Not saying old guys were bad... Yeah you are right about the aluminum bat "el tubo". I remember the senators game i watched on tv. Javy Lopez hit a homer to win. I remember giving a friend of mine crab, he pitched for the puertorican national team and kinderlain hit a homer off of him, and we teased him that the bad still hasn't landed. Lol
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 1, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) How many games did everyone else cost us just from playing like s*** constantly? His baserunning errors seem like louder mistakes to you, but the fact of the matter is the dude hit better than almost everyone, stole a lot of bases at a solid success rate, and actually played better defense even after his errors than the other inept players that were beside him. How many games did Viciedo/Flowers/Beckham/Keppinger/Phegley/etc. cost us from just getting f***ing out like EVERY time they came to the plate? You don't have to use sabermetrics to come to this conclusion, just look at what happened. I don't know why 4-5 stupid baserunning plays in the midst of a solid season makes him worse than the near constant failure that plagued almost everyone else on the roster. I agree with you on the rest too. Just in case you wondered...
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 1, 2013 -> 02:33 AM) I'm tired of reminding people that De Aza was one of our top 2 or 3 best position players last year. You can't say, "The Sox need to sign more than just Abreu" and then also say, "#1 priority should be getting rid of De Aza." Those two are mutually exclusive. If you want to win next year, then the #1 priority should be getting rid of Beckham, Keppinger, Flowers, Phegley, Viciedo, Gillaspie, or Dunn becuase every single one of those were demonstrably worse than De Aza last year. Really??? How many games did this dufus cost us with bad defense, bad baserunning and overall being stupid? He's Carlos Lee part Deux. Tell me what was CLee's WAR in a sox uni? And I recall vividly how 95% on this board wanted him gone... Think outside the sabermetrics box sometimes....
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) What's that supposed to mean?
  5. If cheap I would take a flyer
  6. You can still be active and trade some people too. Getting rid of DeAza should be priority #1

These players are good, but I always wondered what the Cuban team I remember could have done in the ML. Lourdes Gourriel, Orestes Kinderlain and El Niño linares were something.
  8. Isn't this the same they say each year? Quiet does not cut it. This team needs more than abreu
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Right out of the draft??? That doesn't happen. Even Bryce Harper spent 122 games in the minors before making the jump....Best case scenario would be at the midway point of 2015. I didn't phrase my words correctly. I was thinking as you said, maybe half a season or so. Thanks for the correction
  10. Wow can't say I'm not impressed with sox right now. I just hope he doesn't take forever to pan out. With the3rd pick in the draft you should get a ml ready player and impact player. Just hope the sox don't blow it.
  11. Sorry my grammar sucked on that last post...
  12. Those were all good scenarios, and I enjoyed reading them keep it up guys! I wouldn't be against McCann but I would hope he stayed healthy all year. If didn't have Dunn I would say let him catch and DH some so he doesn't get hurt. I agree on beckham and Viciedo just needs to realize he doesn't have to swing to break the seams off the ball, just stay quick and short and the ball will travel. But I really want a start over a change in philosophy from drafting and types of players they sign and draft get a certain attitude going, a brand whitesox baseball, that will eventually save money. I know 95% of the people here don't want that and that's cool, but I think in the long run it will keep us competitive for a long time. That said Lexi, Dunn, de aza, flowers don't fit the mould.
  13. Cause Harold is symbolic at best. He's here because of the former player BS
  14. Thank God the Ramon Troncoso era is over
  15. Whatever! 200 innings for Jose, nice round number
  16. Too bad for Quintana
  17. Let him pitch the seventh. 200 innings for Quintana
  18. And Carlos Lee was bad.....
  19. Ohhhh Alejandro....
  20. Hawk seems sooo depressed
  21. What makes Cuba different? Don't we already got 2 free swingers that are from Cuba? I'm just saying that's the typical aggressive type. Hey if the sox get the guy great, but with Latin players it's difficult to call
  22. You said it yourself, the cuban league... Different type of baseball
  23. Do we really want another free swinging Latino player?
  24. Robin was Kenny's hire not Hahn
