Given that many people lashed out a Dick Lugar for his similar comments right after 9/11, I can't imagine what the French public will say about Chirac. Moreover, I'm shocked that they're on the same page.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) In our society, given how it has developed, it's probably considered inappropriate, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The fact that it happens doesn't make it appropriate behavior. No matter where you go in this world, fifteen-year-olds are NOT ready to deal with the consequences of sex. They do not have the maturity or financial means to deal with an unexpected pregnancy (condoms don't always work). Most fifteen-year-olds aren't even able to deal with the emotional damage of a breakup after intimate sex ("I thought he loved me!"). Hell, I wouldn't even trust that they'd know how to use a condom correctly... or that they'd even bother to use them in the first place.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) In other words, Kennedy is being a blowhard. I'd looove to see Kennedy sit before a committee of hostile Senators and answer questions about Chappaquiddick.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Sex is inappropriate? When you're a freaking 15-year-old, it is.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) I would love one, since there is no god.. If there is please show me proof.. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Yes, my word selection does come out as being an ass, but its not the case. On this topic I try to enlighten people who have been blinded by the truth as I was.. If believing in God keeps me from being like you, it's clearly worth being "wrong."

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) The outrage! This is nothing but a license for teens to have sex. Working to stop inappropriate behavior is the way to stop the spread of HIV. Giving condoms to 15-year-olds who shouldn't be having sex anyway isn't.
-
I'm sure that this will do wonders in preventing the spread of HIV. Link

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) Brit Hume has a Sunday commentary show on Fox News btw. And since we're including weekends you can throw in John Kasich, Charles Krauthammer on there as well. Notice that all of these people you're bringing up are on the same network. No question that Fox is VERY right-leaning. Outside of the two conservatives at MSNBC, though, I don't see many at CNN (Dobbs really isn't), ABC, NBC, CBS, or PBS. Reagan got canned already??? LOL! That must've been recently... I saw him on MSNBC just over a month ago. Then I guess Brit Hume and Sheperd Smith aren't pundits either. Speaking of left-leaning anchors, I'll throw Jon Stewart in there, despite the fact that his show is more entertainment than news (the same is true for certain segments of Olbermann's show as well). QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) Bill Moyers and Dan Rather were NOT on cable either. And neither are still on the air today. I didn't realize that the media was restricted to cable. But if we're going to talk about cable, we can throw in ultra-liberal MTV and their "news."
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:47 AM) Conservative Pundits on Cable News with their own shows: Bill O'Reilly Sean Hannity Brit Hume Lou Dobbs Joe Scarborough Tucker Carlson Brit Hume doesn't do commentary in the same way as the others, so I'd take him off the list. Dobbs is a stretch. Fixed If we include the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Houston Chronicle, and the other liberal newspapers in major markets, the balance is definitely tilted to the left.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:48 AM) Chris Matthews carries water for whoever can help him. He's not a liberal or conservative. He's just an opportunist. And bats*** crazy to boot. Matthews worked for liberals for most of his career, including Carter and Tip O'Neill. While he's far from a tool of the left, his commentary on "Hardball" is still very much left of center overall. And I agree that he's a nut.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) Bill Moyers doesn't work for PBS anymore. He retired last year. Good riddance. I think one might even consider MSNBC more "Fair And Balanced" than Fox right now, after hiring Tucker Carlson. He and Scarbrough offset the overtly-liberal Matthews and Olbermann.
-
It's painfully obvious that most of the major television outlets and newspapers report with a liberal slant... just as it is that Fox News isn't "Fair And Balanced." What's even more disturbing is that PBS pays Bill Moyers to spew liberal commentary with taxpayer dollars.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Man, do I have a bad rep around here or what? I certainly DO NOT claim to be better than anyone else here, but I do pose the challenge to any objective parties to go through this thread and tell me where I was out of line? I mean, you write "the car is red" and the response you get is "oh, so blue cars suck?" and you can only politely point out the error in the logic so many times before it just pisses you off. How about we just forget about this misunderstanding before people get more pissed off at each other? My apologies if I offended anybody, as that wasn't my intent.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) W&O also didn't claim that he wasn't trying to be better than anyone else either. Those are some awful condesending posts for someone who isn't trying to be holier than thou. Its a delicious irony to say the least. If you read back through the thread, you'll see that W&O was the first to fire off a condescending post. You'll have to forgive me for being defensive.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Yeah, I can see how you aren't claiming to be better than anyone, Mercy! Of course, you forgot about the post that started it... QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) You're missing the point, again, and you've moved into posting rebuttals that make no sense whatsoever. Have fun with that, and please pass the pro-religion baton to someone capable of debating this without the aforementioned b.s. You're not Juggernaut's relative by chance, are you? :rolly

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) This f***ing holier-than-thou liberal bashing bulls*** you and a couple others keep pulling is getting f***ing old. Yeah, I'm a real bastard for trying to argue that divine justice is an effective deterrent of immoral behavior. Damn me! Nobody's claiming to be holier than anybody. :headshake

Typical response from an anti-religious liberal whose brain in only capable of formulating ad hominem attacks. Have a nice day...

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) 1) And I never said you did. Are you that hypocritical, or just that excited to be in an argument? That's funny... you're the one who began arguing with me on the divine justice topic. Talk about hypocritical... :headshake

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) Divorce is not a crime, I wasn't talking about crime. I was talking about immoral/unethical behavior. Go back and read my post. I never said that corporate crime has definitely increased over the past 20 years. And talk about speculation... :rolly
-
QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Apparently you missed this fact in the countless other threads in which this myth has been exposed--- In this country, EVERY MAJOR VIOLENT CRIME STATISTIC IS IN DECLINE. If you have a better benchmark for measuring the "morality" of a nation, I'd like to hear about it. Funny how you single out violent crime. What about divorce and marital infidelity? Has corporate crime declined over the past 20 years? :rolly
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) If this country continues to turn it's back on God, we will go down the s***ter. Given the abundance of immoral/unethical behavior in our country already, I'd hate to see how much further downhill it goes when nobody fears divine justice.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Central and South America(and much of Africa for that matter) are populated primarily by uneducated, unsophisticated people that would believe in anything someone with a sandwich and sentiments of hope tells them to believe in. The only figures that matter are those taken from mostly developed countries. So, because they're uneducated, they're unintelligent and can't think for themselves? Got it. :headshake

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Not for much longer: The only Western Christian country which has a church attendance higher than that of the U.S. is Ireland. More than 90% of adults went to church during the 1960's. A poll by Irish Marketing Surveys released in 1999-DEC, found that only half of the population of the Irish Republic currently attended church weekly. (This is a reduction from about 63% in 1998). 10% went once a month; 5% went on holy days; 13% never went to church at all. A spokesperson for the Archbishop of Dublin blamed the recent reduction on a series of sex scandals by priests in the Roman Catholic church. Does that survey discount all of Central and South America, which is pretty much all Catholic?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I dont see Ireland waning due to the fact that the religion is still the identity of the Irish today. Poland as well.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Unfortunately? You want a Godless America? No wonder the liberals are dragging this country right down the s***ter. Taking politics out of the equation, what's "unfortunate" about going to church? Are reflection and prayer negative things?
