QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) It hit the actual issues. It ignored the changes attempted in an effort to sell this as being nothing because the Dems did it. No, it didn't hit any of the arguments I was making which were that the email wasn't racist, anti-Semitic, or stereotyping. This is like someone getting slapped and you call it a rape. I point out that it's not rape and you then say it's a murder. I point out that it's not murder and then you say it's torture. I point out that it's not torture and you tell me that I support the slap. What? And now you're telling me that *I* was attempting changes? What? You're so anti-D that you've lost touch with reality.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) And there you go. Thank you. Are any of those things incorrect? Thank you.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Of course that is how you see it. Dems always fall in line. This is no different. Your post not only evaded all the actual issues of the discussion, you lied about my position on it to insult me. That's a flail.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:29 AM) The ones where you justified everything that was said and done? Yeah, mostly I rolled my eyes at your making excuses for the DNC and moved on. No, the ones where I pointed out how you kept changing your argument from one nonsensical thing to another. It's racist! There's no element of race involved. It's anti-semetic! The email portrayed Judaism as a positive thing to voters. It's stereotyping! No one is being stereotyped. I criticized the email, and you've magically spun that into support simply because I reject your absurd claims that you refuse to even attempt to support.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 05:27 PM) So its better that the DNC did it secretly in emails behind the scenes. I see. They didn't do it at all. They considered it. You seem to have avoided all the main points of my post.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 04:45 AM) In reasonse to Wikileaks, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been removed from speaking at the convention. Sad! Removed from job would be better. I mean, look, everyone knew Hillary was the establishment's pick but all you really had to do was not make it really obvious or shady looking.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 05:00 AM) lol, OK, stereotyping entire groups of people for political gain is more technically correct, but apparently OK now because the Dems are doing it. You keep changing your argument and you still haven't stumbled on a good one. Who is being stereotyped here? What's the stereotype? Where did you get the impression it was okay? I said this email was scummy. It's s***ty that many Christians don't like atheists and it's s***ty that political people would consider taking advantage of that fact. But why you think that is similar to demonizing snd scapegoating groups with made up stories and statistics to make people hate them is beyond me. The closest parallel to Trump this could possibly have would be when Trump kept suggesting Obama might be a Muslim, except he actually did that repeatedly and did so completely disingenuously while these people just considered this lame tactic and actually think Bernie is an atheist (which is probably true too).
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) lol, so trying to throw red meat to take advantage of perceived racism, isn't racism. Am I missing something? Did atheism become a race?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) So they want to get this out in the public eye for why again? The email says why and I said it twice. Some Christian voters wouldn't vote for Bernie if he were an atheist. I'd still like to know how you parsed anti-Semitism or racism out of any of this.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) Even if you want to read that as trying to frame him as an atheist, which I don't get from the Jesus comments later on, they are taking a page straight from the Donald Trump playbook of playing off of differences and trying to use that against anyone who is different. They are quite literally on record trying to get him on record as saying he isn't a Christian, and that he is either Jewish or Atheist. Why else would they need to do that? The party of inclusion for the win. The email has nothing to do with him not being a Chritian, so I don't know how that's "literally" there. It's explicitly about him being Jewish or an atheist as being an atheist would cause him to lose some Christian voters. This email is mildly offensive to atheists (though we are well aware that we're political poison and they never actually did the plan), but not even remotely comparable to demonizing certain groups like Trump does, nor does it have anything to do with race as you initially claimed.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) And Hillary could get up on stage, pull a puppy out from under her podium, say to the crowd "f*** puppies" and punt it 40 yards and all the media(and her supporters) would do is spend the next few days saying the puppy deserved it. No, she couldn't and no, they wouldn't.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) A political party taking advantage of racism is exactly what put Donald Trump on the ballot. This would be the DNC utilizing the Trump playbook. There's no racism involved in this story. You're really struggling to Both Sides this.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) For the party painting Donald Trump as a racist, the Democrats sure have some Jewish skeletons in their closet now. Hypocrites. Fall into line, or we will even attack on an anti-semite basis. I don't think you even read the story. The email in question wasn't anti-semetic at all. The writer proposed that they question if he was religious at all because some voters in upcoming primaries of religious states would sour on an atheist. Most Jews vote Democrat. They're not going to attack Bernie for being Jewish. That's ridiculous. It's a scummy email from an anti-atheist perspective if anything.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) Yeah but to Lost's point, those people don't come out when the candidate isn't conservative enough, just like the young don't come out for liberals unless there's a special reason (change you can believe in!) I don't think that's true. If you look at the 18-29 turnout per election, there are huge swings (and they're all but useless in midterm elections). That isn't present in the reliable Republican groups. Even if they don't like Trump, they'll favor his SCOTUS picks and any chance to overturn Roe and Obergefell.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) That's just it. Republicans aren't showing up this election. There are a lot of them looking elsewhere. They may be looking, but that doesn't mean they won't ultimately vote for Trump. Republican voting blocks (particularly senior citizens and Evangelicals) are pretty reliable.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 06:08 PM) Sure. And who are those Sanders voters going to vote for if they don't get their way? Given how many of them are young people, they're probably going to vote for sitting at home.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Also, one thing I will give him credit for, the dude spoke (yelled) for 1.5 hours and never took a drink! That was amazing. I'd be dying after 15 minutes. He has best vocal chords. The best.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Jesus Christ you guys are sad. Trump has made some creepy ass comments about Ivanka in the past, but that awkward waist/hip patting doesn't seem like anything.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) If you have a D next to your name, it's a standard wave. If you have a R next to your name, it's a Nazi salute. That wasn't a standard wave. It looked like a brainfart where she forgot whether she wanted to be waving or pointing. Or she was trolling.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:19 AM) Democrats fall into line. Republicans fall on to principle. Are you referring to Cruz and Kasich? Can't be the establishment Trump supporters. Just curious: which specific principles do you think Democrats have discarded this election cycle, and which ones do you think Republicans are adhering to (obviously not small government, free trade, interventionism, or family values)? Edit: I do think most of the Republicans/conservatives on this board are principled - which is why they've been so disappointed with the primary and its outcome.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 02:39 AM) How do arrive at that interpretation from these words? And I quote "half of teachers are virtually illiterate." http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/virtually http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/illiterate You arrive at it because not everything is to be taken literally, especially when it comes to insults. "Another walk? This pitcher couldn't hit the broad side of a barn!" doesn't indicate that you actually think the guy is THAT inaccurate. Rauner is bashing the union, saying they'll resist evaluation because they suck - Half the managers can't even manage, half the teachers can't even read!
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) I can't imagine that's the case but if so that's such a distorted and uninformed perspective. So teachers with a college diploma and license are unable to read and write? That doesn't even make sense. You're taking it too literally - he's just saying they suck at what they do.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) I mean, that's kind of a good point actually... we nominated a permanently sunburnt racist with no political experience whatsoever as a nominee for President, so yeah, maybe we shouldn't be going around the world telling people how to govern themselves. That's different from telling countries to stop murdering people though. You went a little extreme there with your example. I mean, that was the example Trump gave. Some of our police officers have been killed by crazies, therefore we can't criticize other countries even about huge, broad things like democratic violations.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) I 100% agree with this! How can we lecture other people about how they act when we have the problems we have? It's completely disingenuous. That doesn't mean democracy and freedom aren't great things and we should be pushing that around the world, but how do we have the standing to lecture with the s*** going on in our own backyard? Good point. We really can't criticize other countries for anything given that Donald Trump is a major party nominee here. More seriously though, what s*** are you referring to? "Hey Turkey, stop trending towards dictatorship and purging massive numbers of suspected opponents from government and academia." "Shut up America, you had some a-hole shoot 5 cops." "Good point, nm"

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) What do you mean both sides? Some guy wrote a stupid headline calling Trump "Putin" due to various pro-Putin comments. This is basically the same thing as a crazy person who literally believes that Hillary Clinton holds some reverence for an evil devil monster.
