  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) There's one aspect that people are forgetting...money. Either money right now or in the future. Equal talent is definitely an aspect of every trade...but we have to think about the money that comes off the books or the Sox won't have to pay. Just keep in mind that there are many factors that go into a trade, not just talent for talent. Any way you cut it, the Garcia trade was a salery dump. We were trying to get cheap young talent; i think we could have gotten more.
  2. I completely agree. Garcia could blow out his arm this year and Gio could win 20 games but i call that luck, not KW being a prophet. Baseball is too random to only judge a trade based on how it works out in the end. I personally judge a trade on the value that KW got for someone...and i think he could have done better witg garcia. If you consistantly get value in a trade, your chances of "winning" the trade in the end are better.
  3. "Offensively, there's not much of a drop-off (if any) from Joe Crede to Fields right now." i think that statement is outrageous. this is no rip on Fields, but there is no way in hell he comes into the majors hitting .283 with 30hrs and 94 RBI. not even close. this may have been discussed before, can't remember.
  4. I'd say at or damn close to 260. Its his second full year, time shine. I think he'll do it to. He averaged near that in the second half, right?
  5. I can't decide if Kenny Williams' ever present smirk of "i know what i'm doing, screw you" is irritating or comforting.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) .300avg 30 HR 20 steals & a gold glove award. I'm just going to be crazy and hope that today and today only I have a special ability of predicting the future. I'd like to amend your prediction: Brian Anderson will also cure cancer and negotiate a long-term peace agreament forthe Middle East; on his offdays.
  7. I'll admit, i just about jumped off a bridge when they dealt McCarthy, (still think its stupid to trade young talent to get young talent) but i feel alright with what we have right now.
  8. From the front office finanacial standpoint this offseason was pretty amazing. Reinsdorf has to be pretty happy. They saved themselves alot of money going forward. We will have a very cheap pitching staff for the next 6-7 years if any of these prospects pan out. From a fan standpoint i could care less about finances. I dont see Jerry buying me hotdogs. That being said, there werent any players in free agency i wish they had gone after AND i think we will still be competetive in the central. Should be a fun year.
  9. I just hope he gets off to a solid start. Otherwise Ozzie will start dicking around with his playing time and then his confidence/rythym is shot.
  10. Warm thoughts: Laying in the left field bleachers for 5.5 hours during that 19 inning game against Boston last year (it was about 97 degrees that day).
  11. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) way to really gay up this thread there newbie. ^^^ sorry, we're in the 5th hour of a Scrubs marathon, you know how it is. Yeah...."like waves crashing against the shore" was a bit overboard. It is f-ing cold and i miss baseball/summer.
  12. i love knowing that there is a game almost every night. its the relentless calming rhythm of summer....like waves crashing on the shore.
  13. I think Ozzie is untouchable for the next few years. I hope however, that he learned some lessons from last year. For example, his desire to let our starting pitchers pitch themselves to a win often let them pitch themselves to a loss. (i personally believe that ozzie's succes in the 2005 playoffs getting 4 consecutive complete games from our startes hurt us bad in 2006) I anticipate that he will have less patience with our starters this year, especially with the apparent upgrades in our bullpen.
  14. I for one am shocked at this poll result. Ha.
  15. I really see the problem with buehrle's first pitch as mainly a lack of creativity from pierzinski's pitch calling; with a slight problem of buehrle htting his spots. I see the same problem with lack of creativity from pierzinki when vazquez implodes in the 5th inning. The batters just seem to see the pattern and make the sox pitchers pay.
  16. "Juan Uribe obviously doesn't have this problem." For the life of me, I will never understand why an opposing pitcher would ever throw a strike to Juan Uribe, first pitch or otherwise. His at-bats are comical. I'm convinced that 80% of his hits come on pitches where the pitcher was either wildly inaccurate and accidently threw a strike or the catcher was too lazy to read the scouting report on him (ie. dont throw him a stike; he swings wildly at anything).
  17. Its an interesting topic. The first pitch is such a crucial aspect of an at-bat, often determining who has the advantage for the rest of the at-bat. Alot of batters like to take the first pitch to get "settled in", expecially the first at bat of the game. I think Buehrle has taken advantage of this fact through his career; however at this point the gig is up, EVERYONE knows buehrle pipes the first pitch. In order to have success moving on he will need to adapt and keep the batter guessing, especially on the first pitch.
