  2. Trump calling up pelosi and Schumer to say he'd sign DACA, will work with Schumer to permanently eliminate debt ceiling What a world
  3. gotta read the whole thing to get the full impact, but e: this is also the point I was trying to make in the trump thread a couple of weeks ago, but TNC's a better communicator than me:
  4. The Oregon wildfires choking the Columbia River Gorge are pretty bad. We hiked back along Eagle Creek, where the fires starts, just last summer. Beautiful area that's going to be completely changed now. Half of Montana's burning down, too, including Glacier NP. They lost the historic Sperry Chalet last week, and now the Lake McDonald lodge is being threatened.
  5. First photos of Barbuda. Don't think that single fatality is going to hold https://twitter.com/WeatherSarov/status/905...src=twsrc%5Etfw
  6. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) wow Well, so they revised that initial comment down from 1,000 to 1 fatality. Still estimating near-total destruction, though.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Hoping for a miracle here. PR can't take devastation, and at least that the worst of the winds dissipate quickly as it hits land.
  8. The island of Barbuda, which is part of Antigua, hadn't had any contact since the storm hit overnight. The PM of Antigua flew over this afternoon and just recently gave a press conference via radio. Estimated damages are that 90% of the buildings are gone. Estimated fatalities are over 1000. The island's population is only 1600.
  9. No, because Democrats are more than willing to provide the votes to increase the limit. If there wasn't the HFC Suicide Caucus in the House, Republicans wouldn't even need their votes. e: debt ceiling should still be abolished though
  10. Might hit some of the Caribbean islands, but it's projected to push up and east into the Atlantic. Irma's projections keep shifting back and forth over Florida. It might push east too and just drench Florida rather than completely wrecking it.
  11. Jose coming in right behind Irma
  12. Yeah, apparently Trump met with Schumer and Pelosi? And now Republicans in Congress are super pissed about it. https://twitter.com/JakeSherman/status/905475282676670469

  15. FEMA is down to it's last billion, having spent half of its annual budget just since Thursday.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) He claimed an individual judge was biased. You said that he said Mexican judges were unqualified. That's not what was said and it is a complete mischaracterization. A biased judge is not qualified. He claimed an American judge was biased because of his Mexican heritage. If Mexican heritage potentially makes a judge biased, that would mean we should be suspicious of bias in all judges with Mexican heritage.
  17. He claimed that a judge wasn't qualified to preside over his case due to his Mexican heritage. I don't really care if you want to nitpick my chosen phrasing as the main point there was Trump's history of anti-immigrant rhetoric, which Trump himself admitted in the back and forth over Curiel.
  18. NOAA's 5-day radar forecast, ends just as Irma would start to make landfall in FL. https://twitter.com/RyanMaue/status/905078934194278405
  19. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) There is absolutely nothing racist or anti-immigrant about securing our southern border by building a wall. At all. It's something we desperately need to do, and for amnesty to work needs to happen in conjunction. It's a national security issue most importantly, I don't see how you could be reasonably against it. The wall is dumb as hell, pointless, an economic waste and an ecological disaster, but regardless you sort of ignored the whole bulk of the post there. Trump's had plenty of anti-immigrant rhetoric for years now and very recently supported a plan to reduce legal immigration by 50%. His administration's message on ending DACA focused on "American jobs" and did not urge Congress to offer a pathway to citizenship at all. Where is the evidence for the idea that Trump wants DACA recipients to gain legal status? How does that square with what his administration's done so far regarding immigration?
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Did he really say that? That'd be insane. Link? Trump claimed Curiel was biased against him because he is Mexican (Curiel was born in Indiana). http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/president-t...ory?id=46916250
