  1. WaPo has a pretty good breakdown of what's going down today https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpo...fb043679543220/
  2. How very brave of The Maverick to risk his own life to doom millions of Americans to financial hardship and possibly death.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I don't remember, are you "working class" or no? Because much of this is the same type of rhetoric Bernie was using to mobilize that demographic. It's smart and effective. Harkening back to The New Deal, while simultaneously creating a dig at Trump and his "deals", this is as good and clear a message as you're going to get. What else better competes with MAGA? I haven't heard a better one. And thanks. Appreciate that. I am not, but Bernie was presenting clearer and stronger plans than some technocratic fiddling at the margins, which is what this comes across as to me. From the more hardcore left-wingers I know, they're all basically rolling their eyes at this and think it's just the same centrist dem message as always that nobody really wants to hear. Medicare-for-All and Free College or something along those lines are pretty straight forward messages. "We'll give your bosses a tax break if they institute some retraining programs" isn't exactly a showstopper, and historically it's a bad program anyway. What's this platform's messaging/branding equivalent of MAGA? Maybe they were saying $15 minimum wage in their presser (that wasn't really covered and few will ever watch), but it's not a bullet point in their message, it's not what's made headlines, and it doesn't seem to be what anyone is really taking away from this. And, FWIW, LBJ tried out "better deal" back in the 60's and that message fell flat, which is how they ended up with Great Society. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Honestly, anyone who's curious should check out the unveiling event from today. Schumer et al. did anything but pull punches. I was really impressed by their candor, clarity, and willingness to take a hard line on the issues they need to if they're going to become a party of the working class again. Give it a watch: https://www.facebook.com/NancyPelosi/videos...55809112379384/ oh man having bad flashbacks to "check out the website"
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) Why are they always pulling their punches. Just say - 1. 15 dollar national minimum wage. 2. Single payer healthcare and free tuition for public colleges. The third point they made is fine I guess. It's just nothing really concrete either. A better third point would have been a new foreign policy. this does a decent job of capturing my reaction: http://coreyrobin.com/2017/07/24/the-democ...-pull-the-plug/ tax credits for businesses to train people! wow, what an inspiring platform!
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) To win in Trump era, liberals must first listen to his voters My 3 part op ed series (oped, GOP response, my response back) is out in USA Today. Editors changed some language I don't love, but hey, that's life Wow, congrats on getting a platform that big. e: can't say I agree with your take on the Dem's new branding. It's so boring and bland. It seems focused-grouped to hell and back without any real big-ticket items people will be drawn to and can rally behind.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) I can't understand what could possibly be in his returns that he's so protective over. Either a whole lot of shady/questionably legal financial dealings or it shows he's not nearly as wealthy as he claims which, based on how he's acted in the past, is the most important thing to him.
  7. Modern militaries have a hell of time hitting much less maneuverable planes with anti-aircraft guns that fire hundreds of rounds a minute instead of maybe 1. If they actually have the ballista kill a dragon then just lol. I really don't care about the Cersei/KL plotline at all any more. Euron's character does suck and I'm glad they wiped out the useless sand snakes as well. Pare down all of that filler they weren't really doing anything with anyway.
  8. They're holding the vote for a motion to proceed on some healthcare bill tomorrow, but nobody is sure exactly what they're going to be voting on (AHCA, BCRA, '15 R&R?) as of now, and regardless of whatever bill they hold this vote on, that'll kick off the whole 20 hours of debate that will be the entirety of the public debate for a massive health care bill. Then there will be a flurry of amendments, possibly dozens or hundreds of them, that get brought up for a vote. We really have no idea at all what health care policy will look like by the end of this week.
  9. While Trump obviously has a bunch of personal insanity swirling around him, most of the appointments he's made the policies he's signaled support for are the same stuff we could have expected from a McCain or Romney or Jeb presidency. Trump is doing a lot of damage to institutions and norms, but policy-wise, he's little different from the rest of the GOP.
  10. The $12/year thing is from that insane NYT interview he did, and it's not the first time he's made comments like that. Never mind policy intricacies, he really has no idea what health insurance even is.
  11. He does mean bleached because Hillary's team used BleachBit at some point to wipe her hard drives. He thinks that this free software is very expensive, and he also seems to think it means she literally bleached her emails somehow because he does not seem to grasp figurative language or metaphors in any way. He also seems unaware that if he thinks there should be an investigation into Clinton or "Comey crimes" that he has to power to order one. e: having the country run by a narcissist in the throes of dementia sure is a hell of an experiment
  12. Jared kushner had to revise his clearance form for the 39th time this week to disclose nearly 80 financial assets he forgot. The WSJ has found another billion dollars in debt kushner has that isn't yet included. https://twitter.com/rebeccaballhaus/status/...src=twsrc%5Etfw
  13. Sessions discussed Trump's campaign with Russian ambassador. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/8...src=twsrc%5Etfw
  14. The list of Byrd rule violations for the Senate bill is out. These are provisions that would require 60 votes in enact. https://twitter.com/sarahkliff/status/88851...src=twsrc%5Etfw What jumps out at me right away is that two of the major provisions, eliminating ehb's and block granting Medicaid, are still undecided, but defunding PP requires 60 votes so to pass this bill will require Republicans to vote for federal PP funding.
  15. Senate Intel committee chair Richard Burr, a republican, says Devin Nunes invented the Susan Rice unmasking story. https://twitter.com/allegrakirkland/status/...src=twsrc%5Etfw

  18. Both bannon and preibus hate this guy and have blocked him from getting a wh job multiple times. Compete chaos.
  19. I dunno guys, Made In America week might be even better than Infrastructure Week.
  20. The Russian lawyer who met with Trump Jr has represented the FSB (modern KGB) for years
