  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:14 PM) And that's a slogan in there for how it sounds to the public, not an actual estimate of the likelihood of failure. Technically there has to be some margin for error since 2 centimeters would make no difference, if that's how it was considered. Yeah, NASA stuff is low factor-of-safety because they spend a huge amount of time validating everything so that they can keep the weight down, but it still isn't zero.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Errol Spence is back in the tournament, the result of his fight was overturned. When your sport has had multiple results overturned in the same Olympics, there is something seriously wrong with your judging. The announcers for the other match that was overturned were even saying as the results were announced that this is why the sport is considered a joke.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) You completely misconstrued what I said. Gay rights aren't what's trivial, the entire argument is. Because it shouldn't matter. At all. *People* should have the same rights as everyone else regardless of their sexual orientation. That's what I said, and that's what I meant. It's trivial that the subject even exists. I do not care about a persons sexual orientation whatsoever. I have so many more important concerns in my life that caring about another persons sexual origination just seems...well...trivial. But it does exist because a sizeable portion of our population doesn't believe that they should have the same rights. It shouldn't matter, but it does, and its something people have to fight for. You could have said the same thing in the 60's, that's is trivially clear that blacks should have the same rights as whites. That doesn't mean that they didn't have to fight for them.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) I'm sure this has been brought up in 42 pages but Greg I assume you go to the church of Ozzie? :lolhitting :lolhitting
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:46 PM) Then why would you say that the news just keeps bashing priests? Perhaps you're not following the story as closely as others. It's not only that he has that opinion but he's also donating millions of dollars to organizations fighting equal rights here in the US. These same organizations are trying to make homosexuality illegal in other countries. bmags posted a great article a little further back in this thread. I suggest you read it. I really do wish that the media reports were more clear on this. This isn't because he said something offense, it's because he donates millions of dollars to political lobbying groups that fight to keep gays from having equal rights.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) My specific question to you then is...if you believe this is a positive thing for your church (and you seem to genuinely do so)...what have you done this week to show that the hate dumped at CFA does not stand for you? What has your church done? I get pastors on my news at night supporting CFA. Has yours gone on the news and opposed this kind of hate? Called it out? Has your congregation stepped forwards and publicly showed that they don't speak for you? If not, then no matter how welcoming your congregation is...you're still letting the people in the line at CFA speak for you. Because they are getting out and doing all those things to express their intolerance. I don't know if I buy this, this is the same line of thought that lets people tar every Muslim in the world with the acts of extremists.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) Great post. If you believe in God and believe in community worship, church is a good place to be on Sunday. If you believe in God and you look around for a month, you will find a church that is awesome for you. All you have to do really is believe in God and you'll find the right church. I consider church pretty much the highlight of my week because I consider it uplifting to be with a community of strangers who for one measly hour are doing something uplifting and good. Like I said, my priest is very accommodating to all groups, welcoming straights, gays, poor, wealthy, all colors, treating them all the same. You can get a quasi-religious experience with something like Unitarian Universalists. There are absolutely positive aspects to religion, community-building being one of the most apparent.
  8. Saw an interesting combination of bumper stickers yesterday: Abortion stops a beating heart Sometimes war IS the answer!
  9. I'm sure they'll get plenty of donations to their legal fund, too.

What sort of processing software do you use, Y2HH?

How do you post photos from dropbox? Mine never work. edit: great shots
  14. I wish I worked for NASA. Why this big crazy Rube Goldberg landing instead of the airbags they've used before?
  15. Can't even watch replays of what aired on NBC last night without a cable subscription log-in. Ridiculous.

I got the SB400 last December. Works great, though I haven't used it a bunch. I can't imagine a hobby photographer needing anything more than that.
  17. Not really, not when they're arguing that the rules of the game need to be changed to favor the rich less.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:32 AM) People try to make a bigger deal out of this than it actually is. Everyone in Washington is some degree of rich, so nobody really cares about that. It's not some secret that Romney is rich, just like it's not a secret that Kerry was rich...yes, maybe richer than others, but there isn't a voter out there that doesn't realize Obama has a ton of money, too. The DNC's main message appears to be economic inequality and unfairness. Running against a very, very wealthy ex-financial CEO who paid a very low tax rate in the one year he's released his returns makes that all the easier to sell.
  19. Agreedo. Politics-as-practiced-by-modern-Republicans as opposed to the Democrats' typical milquetoast crap.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:19 AM) Though by definition it isn't "Republican politics". Republican-style. edit: it's shady and not really an intellectual debate of policies, but it's politics.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) He literally has zero reason to shut up. Yes, his words were unfairly personal, but the only way there's a downside for him is if Mitt Romney releases a decade of tax returns to prove him wrong, which Mitt clearly can't do. It's a swift boat move, but we've proven that's total fair game. People do know why Reid would bring "Mitt Romney's Father" into this right? It's not fair when Democrats play Republican politics
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) When you get Jon Stewart telling you to shut up, you know you've gone too far... This is what Stewart had to say about Reid: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/02/j...amp;ir=Politics Stewart's "bothsidesdoitism" gets annoying sometimes.
  23. He reiterated the charge after Romney unironically told him to "put up or shut up"
