  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) this is some what interesting...... http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/1/23/1081...ns-undetermined what i also found very interesting is a snippet near the end of talks of a NL dh...... These were my thoughts, exactly.
  2. I want the last 10 minutes of my life back...jeesh, what a big bag of s*** this thread is.
  3. Speaking of underrated areas of the country...the Reno, NV area is pretty solid. You've got 4 season weather, tons of outdoor activities, proximity to some great culture in San Francisco, reasonably affordable, and Lake Tahoe right on your doorstep. Southern Nevada is really underrated in my opinion as well. I went to Phoenix a few weeks ago for work and it was like...Vegas without all the fun
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) My wife and went to Mama's on an evening it was pouring in Maui,we were staying in Wailea. Just as we were finishing dinner, the roof right above us sprung a leak, and got us all wet. They comped us the meal which was pretty nice. Never made it to Mama's, but ate at Morimoto's a few times and it was outstanding.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) It is the MOST underrated state in the country. Flagstaff is awesome. Sedona is the most breathtaking city in the county in my opinion. Lots of nature, the Grand Caynon, etc. Pffft. Let's not get crazy.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) Oh boy, I feel the heat from this burn First step in my plan would be to get rid of Gar. Whether Paxson reassumed his role as GM or they hire a new one, it's pretty clear that Gar is a very divisive force in the front office. ziiinnnnnnnnnggggggg!
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) The discussion is frequently made that the earth goes through normal heating and cooling cycles. Some will still insist that there isn't a problem because it can occur naturally. I'm not saying I agree but much of the arguing revolves around is there truly a problem, regardless of the data. Understood. There can't be global warming because look at all those snowstorms hitting the east coast right now!
  8. Who cares? I agree with Matt. It was very warm no matter how you cut it. That is problematic. How about we figure out how to do something to solve the problem rather than waste energy arguing about whether it was the worst or the second worst?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) Opt-outs are ruining baseball. Guys are going to be jumping from team to team so often now. Or just bending the same team over year after year.
  10. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:15 PM) 3 years $70M opt-out after 1 year Breaking news...
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) Oh my god, this place is going to explode. Nah...if this had happened yesterday or the day before, maybe...not now.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) You seem like a great guy and all, but he's got a point. Most of your posts are nearly impossible to decipher, and the ones that are decipherable are usually little one liners or agreeing with someone. And I often wonder by reading your posts if you even watch any baseball or just post about it. Guessing we're not in the minority on the board either. Again, you seem like a great guy and all and I am sure we'd get along wonderfully over a beer watching a Sox game, but your posts often just muddy the water. You seem like a great guy and all but what a loser you are...
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:57 PM) Fowler probably waiting to see how many teams want him after big 3 sign Think the Cubs are still kicking the tires?
  14. Well, if he's really 3/$40, and Cespedes is 5/$125, and we are unwilling to go more than 3 years, I really find it odd that we haven't signed Fowler yet.
  15. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) There have been some reports out there as well about some executives feel like 2015 was a true outlier season for Cespedes and your classic free agent push, and given his career numbers I seem to agree with that. Free agency is always not the optimal route to go, but I feel like with Cespedes, you will absolutely be paying for past performances and not anything close to what he is actually going to give you. Fowler has been a fairly consistent 2 WAR player the last 5 years and should cost as you said, nearly 70 million dollars less than Cespedes, who I'm just not sold on. Just personal preference, and I know I'm in the minority. I will also be excited if Cespedes does join the Sox, but I think it's playing with fire. So you suspect Fowler is going to pull in something in the neighborhood of 3/$50?
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 06:23 PM) We only have so much information to go off of, so lets use the facts we have. 1. It was reported today by national outlets that the White Sox were one of the finalists for Cespedes 2. It has been very much established over the last year or so that Bob Nightengale is a mouthpiece for the White Sox in so many ways, and has a direct line with someone very high up in the front office. 3. Nothing has been reported by members of the Sox traveling press core that there have been any negotiations or any serious talks between the White Sox and Cespedes. Meaning, the Sox beat reporters for the most part get there information from the team or someone close to the club, and in some ways serve a certain master. If things are getting close, there is no advantage for the White Sox to leak that out there and get people excited. 4. Where you have to make a bit of a leap is guessing why this report came out now. My best guess would be talks started back up, and have now hit a snag. The Sox want to put pressure on things and make a statement(whether or not you think that's the right strategy is another argument) that they are staying firm on 3 years. If you are the White Sox and have that information, are you giving it to Scott Merkin or Dan Hayes, or are you going to go national with someone like Nightengale, to achieve a bigger reach? Right. This is posturing on the part of the Sox. And I wouldn't be surprised if Fathom's second question is also answered in the affirmative. Suddenly, the Sox will be negotiating with Fowler.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) Who has said they would go 4? I thought it was Rosenthal?
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 35s35 seconds ago The #Whitesox still have interest in Yoenis Cespedes, but have not changed stance: Nothing more than 3 years lmao Wow. Some heavy duty posturing going on here.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) At this point? Cespedes was the one I wanted least of the big three, but: I'd go up to 5/125. He's a four win upgrade over Avi and I believe in this team as a mid-80's winner with that upgrade. Interesting.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) ihaveafeelingsomethingisgoingtohappentodayTalk.com What would you pay Cespedes if it was up to you?
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Sox beat writers nearly silent today. Both Merkin and Hayes spread new SoxFest info. Hayes had one exchange with a fan about something not related to the Sox. Merkin said "No." That's it. I don't believe I have ever cared what any Sox beat writer had to say, even after a transaction was official.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) I thought dramatic was great word choice. Brian, when you say options, do you mean opt outs or club/mutual/player option years?
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) Allowing Ventura another year as manager is enough to get me to question ownership/management. Also waiting for Hahn to start producing a quality team. I can see the direction Hahn is taking. He's incredibly patient, and that is driving a lot of fans nuts. Better he be in his job than many of us. Breathe, people. As for Ventura, can't argue with that.
