QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) Would you be willing to jettison Beckham to bring up Micah? No. I'd jettison Bonafacio. But let me make something clear. If LaRoche made Beckham's salary next year, I wouldn't be too concerned about eating it.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) If we add then KW is really in charge. If we sell then Hahn really does have input I don't think that's necessarily the case. The team is determining things at this stage. Not KW or Hahn.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) The alternative is you get what little salary relief you can or just bite the bullet . At least then you have an open roster spot and a chance to upgrade the lineup. He's been bad against lefties for years . If the Sox are serious about contending they don't have space for a 1st baseman who can't provide anything except an occasional HR and defense at a position that is not of importance. Who would you give his PAs to?

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) He also just said that they are "7 or 8 games, something like that" out of the Wild Card race. It is pretty scary that somebody making a living reporting on sports doesn't know that they will be 5 games out after the Twins most likely lose today. Big difference between 8 games and 5 games. And it's our entire sports media. The Chicago media, for as long as I remember, is basically allowed to be ignorant because that's the perception of much of the people in Chicago.

I think it's safe to say Shark will be here for at least one more start.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) Sorry bout that last post. It's such a weird team it always does bizarre stuff. That's why I thought they'd probably go to Boston and reverse this great sweep and get swept. I mean if this lead holds up, Cleveland just pulled a Sox this series. Got swept unexplicably. With the pitching we have, we have the capability to win basically any series. The problem is, with the offense we have, we have the capability to lose every game.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) Still 5 days until the deadline, lots can happen. If they go and sweep Boston and Twins keep losing, then selling might be a tough call. I don't think we need to even focus on Minnesota. They key should be whether this team starts to play well enough where it can run off wins in bunches like we thought it could when we drafted Rodon and traded for Shark. If they do, the Twins aren't going to matter...it'll end up coming down to 3-4 teams battling it out over the final weeks.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) I don't want to downplay this possible sweep, but you know this weird team will go to Boston and just get owned. Prolly lose all 4. Please trade, Hahn, trade. Greg, I enjoy your posts. But posts like these where you're just pulling s*** out of your ass really diminish your credibility.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) Like Fathom said, it is critical salary relief. He's not worth Francouer money now. Get rid of him. You're not going to get much salary relief Greg. Everyone is seeing the same guy as we are right now.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) What do we have to gain ? Even bouncing back means Robin continues playing him against lefties when he shouldn't. He won't walk anymore because he can't hit anything now. He's late on everything . When he pulls it it's into a shift. Only thing that might help slightly is a HR once a week and I can't see that kind of bounce back coming. Well he's been quite a solid run producer for the last several years. I'm seeing the same thing as you, and I'd cut bait if there was any kind of upside to doing so. But there just isn't. There is no real alternative. There is no significant salary relief to be had. We need to put him in the best position to succeed and get him out of this funk.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) It would be nice to free up some of his contract for next year What are we going to free up, like $2 million? No one is going to take on that contract right now. You'd have to eat quite a bit of it or flat out DFA him.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) Why would you move him for anything less? Because we can get something for him which will be more impactful for our future than if we keep him.
-
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Since we're all GMs here, I'd move Avi to DH and bring up a RF (Shuck there maybe). Give LaRoche to some team that I trade Shark to. Alexei is playing much better. I'd move him too. I think we've got more to gain by LaRoche somehow bouncing back from this than we do by dumping him.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) I'm not worried about the Royals and Cueto. I dont think they'll be able to resign him. We've got a long way to go before we need to worry about the Royals anyways. I just hope we can get something out of this s*** season, and that's something that adds to our future. As much as I enjoy winning, I have a feeling if we sweep this series we won't move Jeff unless we're blown away.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) He didn't even have close to his best stuff. Goes to show you how important locating his pitches is for him. His changeup was pretty great today. Just imagine if he gets the slider and the changeup going with command.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) That's got to be it for Rodon...love seeing him not walk anyone Yeah, that's better to me than all the strikeouts.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Sorry Tex but there are a lot of catchers who can excel handling our pitchers. Just because our pitchers pitch well doesn't mean it's primarily Flowers or even 50% Flowers. The Sox just have good pitchers. Look at Soto's pitch framing this year. It's good mainly because he catchers our pitchers. Guys like Sale and Samardzija and Q just don't walk a lot of guys and a lot of that is based on their reputations with umps . Pitch framing is one of those stats that needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt. I'm sure he calls a good gaame but that is not unique to him and his other defensive abilities aren't that good. I'm not making the argument myself. Just mentioning what I think the organization's opinion is based on what Hawk has said.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) I wasnt talking about the manager. Right now it's Rick Hahn's fault that he's still the starting catcher. Well you mentioned the guy on the bench should play more. Not much we can do with the catching situation from a organizational standpoint for this year at this point.
-
When do you pull him?
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) That's fine but statistically he's one of the worst catchers in baseball in terms of WAR. We have a catcher behind him who is actually middle of the pack. I think that would qualify as much better option. Our manager cannot even be bothered to look at the statistics of our relievers - he still just goes with the traditional handedness matchups. You expect him to utilize WAR?
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) You guys want to make good money? On the prop bets on Bovada you can bet on how an AB will end. Just bet the max $1,000 every time that LaRoche will K. You'll pay your house off in no time flat. I actually used to bet on Thome to K quite a bit towards the end of his career.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) Oh we've accepted it. We just dont know why he keeps getting resigned and starting. They obviously value his catching ability. Hawk, who is basically our fly on the wall, has mentioned several times how Flowers has excelled at handling our starters, which is his "primary responsibility." We just need to accept that and deal with his offensive inadequacies. It isn't something that is going to change until a much better option becomes apparent.
-
Not sure why some of you get so frustrated by Flowers. I get much more frustrated by the failures of the guys that actually have the ability to be productive. Flowers is what he is, and the more quickly you accept that, the lower your blood pressure will remain.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) If EJ went today it almost certainly meant that Samardzija could not be traded before his next start. They're at least thinking about it. I don't know if I agree with your first statement. There is always someone they could throw in there. What's the worst that could happen? They lose the game? But yes, I agree it appears they are at least planning for the possibility. Who knows, maybe it's a little bit of gamesmanship on their part.
