QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) LOL, you DO know they have miked him up several games this year right? To me a guy who gets up repeatedly after getting crushed over and over earns respect on the football field. The players dont care what the media says about his "faces". I don't think anyone lacks respect for Cutler's toughness. But other players seem to generally like Rodgers. This is not the case with Cutler. Not saying it is a good or a bad thing...just my observations.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) Based on? How they carry themselves in football games? Rodgers is the same as Favre was...he talks to opposing players during the game and after it. Cutler just doesn't seem to give a s*** what anyone thinks of him, even players on his own team.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) Our players are way too nice when they sack QB's. I saw Peppers yesterday sack Rodgers, wrap him up, take him down and then pat him on the back and exchange some friendly words. WTF is that s***? When other teams sack our QB, they go for his head or his legs, there's almost none of this "wrapping up then friendly banter" type ish you see out of our guys. Just weak sauce. If ever there was a time to find some meanness in you, its in a Bears/Packers game This is because opposing players respect Rodgers, while they do not respect Jay Cutler.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) What would people wear for an interview conducted over Skype (university professor position)? I'll probably do shirt and tie, would people do more/less than that? Wear one of those t-shirts that looks like a tuxedo. And nothing else. Honestly, I would probably do business casual. Wearing a tie just to be on video seems a bit odd to me, but then again, so does the whole notion of an interview over Skype.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 12:49 PM) Realistically, that is an insane standard. First what other aspects of life do we have anything like that for? Would it stand up to constitutional muster? Second, if we applied that to other aspects of life... Someone robs a bank and kills a bankguard after stealing your car for a getaway tool, you go to jail for murder and bank robbery? Someone steals your identity and defrauds a bank by running up a large number of charges, bank either charges you with fraud, or makes you pay for the charges? I don't mean to derail the conversation at all, but this made me laugh. I have used the phrase "pass muster" with my boss a few times when referring to regulatory scrutiny. He now thinks the phrase is "pass the mustard." I don't have the heart to correct him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) I'm with you. I wouldn't trust Dickey to perform for three years at this current level. Well he doesn't have to perform at his current level to be worth it... -
You've got to just give her some space...all this s*** will work itself out if you allow it to.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) I think part of the problem was that they all looked really bad in realtime. In every case the DB went to the ground and it seemed like Alshon had his hands out. Maybe that's just a matter of him having his body/hands in the wrong position, but it seemed every time like he was begging to get called for it. I still think the only answer is to allow some of the big penalties (Pass interference, personal fouls) to be challenged. Peppers' hit fits that description too. He's a big ass dude, that's one of the reasons we drafted him. That being said, I disagree. I didn't think they looked bad in real time.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) To be honest, I've seen it all year. All the talk of the replacement refs, if the microscope was on these guys, people would be saying the same thing. The refs really have a hard time in this league and to be frank, they've been pretty bad all year (its been pretty noticeable). I am very excited about Alshon/Marshall. Alshon has really good body control and hands. He uses his physicality and I think if the Bears can get Knox back (plus try to pick up a speed guy) they should be decent at wideout (no need to dump Earl). Big thing is going to be improving the oline, getting a better offensive mind, and of course finding a TE. I realize Finley is an inegma who drops stuff but he's a darn good athlete and would be a major upgrade. I watch an awful lot of football and I haven't seen the refs scrutinize a wideout for contact or pushing off like that all year. You maybe see one of those called, but not three.
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) You didn't think any of those offensive pass interference calls on Jeffery were penalties? What about the one where he grabbed shields by the face mask and threw him down and they called illegal contact? That was the first play of the drive you referenced that "one took a TD away from us." The bears still scored 3 on that drive. I saw 3 terrible calls in that game. 2 in favor of Green Bay and 1 in favor of Chicago. Did I miss something? By the spirit of the rule, yes, I thought some of those could be called. By the way they have been calling that rule for the last 5 years, no, I did not think any of them should have been called.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) Heck, even look at what he's doing with Foles. Foles isn't any good. Reid has made any QB he had better, imo. He had McNabb look decent his last year in Philly before he completely fell apart in Washington. Ditto for the guy on the Cards (whose name is escaping me at the moment) who is terrible. Getting Reid would be a freaking awesome. I think Foles actually is fairly good. But I agree in re his offensive mind. Agree with the earlier poster though who said he will end up in San Diego.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) Bad call? Yes. But the Bears did not lose the game on that one play. They were clearly outplayed and if it wasn't for terrible decisions on the part of McCarthy that game is a blow out - putting Crosby out there twice for 40+ yard attempts when he can barely make a PAT right now (the second one being on 4th and 1 situation), awful punt return trick play when leading by 11 points n the 4th quarter, and giving the ball to grant late in a game when he's been sitting at home half the season watching games on tv all while with Alex green was running the ball well all game There were 5-6 terrible calls. One took a td away from us. Another gave a td to them. Another two took a drive away from us at the end of the game. Another extended one of theirs and allowed them to take another 1:47 off the clock. This was one of the poorer officiated games you will see in the NFL.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) I think that if all the teams wound up 10-6, the Skins and Cowboys and Giants and Vikings would wind up having tiebreaker advantages over the Bears. Basically, the Bears need to wind up with more wins than them. We hold the tiebreaker on the Cowboys because we beat them head-to-head. Vikings would have to beat GB to reach 10 wins, but stranger things have happened. Have to dig in more to the Giants and Skins schedules, but I think they will end up having better conf records than us.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) I'm glad he's taking responsibility. So what do the Bears need to happen to make the playoffs. Clearly they need to win 2 in a row, but what else needs to happen? Not sure, but I think they'll get in if they win 10 games...and seeding isn't that big of a concern this year, IMO. But we suck anyway.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) I don't like either of those ideas. Mcdaniels won't work anyway (unless Bears plan on dumping Cutler). Chip Kelly, love him in college, but just don't think his schtick will work in the pro's. If Angelo were around, I'd say we'd probably hire Saban. Funny thing is, how do we know that McDaniels was wrong about Cutler now? As for Kelly, I know I am in the minority, but he's a guy I would be willing to take a gamble on.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Sometimes you need your QB to step up and make a play, or to have a game where he doesn't make the big mistake(s). Jay Cutler has shown no ability to do those when he's facing a tough challenge. I just don't think he has it to carry the team. You can still win with a QB like that, but you have to build around him and try to turn him into a manager. Basically, stop letting Cutler make the big mistake. I don't even know if I would go that far. I think he should be Matt Schaub good though...and I wouldn't call him a "manager." He's just not on that first tier of guys that seem capable of getting a win no matter who you put out there around them.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Andy Reid is going to end up in San Diego. He just built his house there and wants to be closer with his family if/when let go by Philly. Also, the same issues that plague Lovie are the same ones that plague Andy. No offensive lineman and the leaders on defense are old. I don't know what changes with another coach. You still need an offensive line, you still need to get younger on defense. Plain and simple. I have yet to see a valid reason as to why Lovie should be fired. At least Andy has a bit of a clue as to how an offense should be run, but yeah, none of these retreads does anything for me. I am ready to bring in someone innovative with fresh ideas. I'd like us to interview Chip Kelly...s***, I'd even consider talking to Josh McDaniels...
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) The calls today were brutal but this is it. Lovie needs to go. We need a fresh start. And Cutler, you have proven you are what you are. You blame others but at the end of the day you get frazzled, make mistakes, and think you are better then everyone else. The act is old and tired. Yes you are talented and I'll give you one more year, but if you don't get it done...you are done as a Bear in my mind. Yeah, this sums it up pretty well in my mind...I like Jay but when the heat gets turned up a bit, he turns into a little b****. That being the case, Mike Tice has got to go, and as much as I love Lovie's defense, I think he needs to be a casualty as well. Time to bring a new sheriff to town and see what else works.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) I don't get it. I think he had about one bad play (the one where he looked the wrong way). Otherwise he played physical and made some nice grabs. Unfortunately the refs called some offensive PI's that rarely get called. Yeah, I actually loved what I saw from Jeffrey today.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Interesting, in what capacity? (if you can reveal any more details). Not sure yet...I was at my best friend's wedding in the Chi this weekend and ran into an old friend that I have worked for in the past. She recently has taken over recruitment for the university and was asking a lot of questions about what it would take for her to bring me on over there. We're looking at potential fits now. Probably something where I am analyzing data and research to help guide future decision-making for certain programs...most of my skills are in those areas.

Anyone work in administration for a university? Recently had some interesting discussions with a recruiter at a prominent university about potentially joining one...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) Yeah, but I'm trading that off against reliability. I'm that iffy on Rios. We all were last year, deservedly so. I'm gonna hope he finally has his head on straight and just keeps it rolling next year. Fair enough.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) If the team had the DH spot available I might well take Soriano. Rios gets 2 more years with this hitting coach to probe my doubts wrong, because we all know he has all star talent. You don't see any value in the flexibility though?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) Has Soriano ever had anything as bad as Rios's 2011? Who do you think would be the odds-on favorite to perform best over the next several years, Soriano or Rios?

Happy Birthday, Sir. Enjoy your day!
