Was just listening to MLB radio with Jim Bowden and Jeff Joyce. A caller called in and asked if the Red Sox would take Floyd back and Bowden said something to the effect of "not to be mean, but do you really want Floyd starting in Boston"? I can understand that perspective because I believe Floyd is a space cadet, but Bowden made it seem as though Floyd has no value whatsoever on the trade market. I have a difficult time believing you throw out the last 4 years of starts for Floyd and only focus on the last 4, but his value is certainly not at its all-time high right now. If I'm really in on Youkillis, I'm probably going to give them the Feathered Serpent and still wonder if I overpayed...not a huge fan of him considering his injury proneness and his declining defensive skills at third.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:45 PM) I almost hate going to the beach and having to miss the next five weeks. I'm really feeling your pain, Tex

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) My point is Hawk can pop off about the umpires every game the rest of the year, and really all Bud can do is ask him to stop. JR wants him to stop, probably for different reasons than Bud. I suspect JR would think the umpires, although we all know they are above this, may hold a grudge. Bud doesn't want every PBP guy bashing the umpires, and maybe some of it is for umpire safety. I don't know how many MLB games you attend, but they show replays of all controversial plays on boards at every professional sporting event, except one. You will never see a replay of a close call on a board at an MLB park. Well, I disagree in terms of what their rights are, but I probably agree in that they would really, really like to avoid having to actually do anything about it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) Trying crap like that would give them 100 times worse PR than Hawk's rant alledgedly was, and if Hawk and his employers fought it, he does have a contract, Bud would lose. But its much ado about nothing, as both Bud and JR love the Hawk and were never mad at him. In fact, one article I read but can't find said MLB was looking into a token suspension but it was determined Hawk wasn't an employee of the White Sox so they had no authority. So they can't suspend him, but they can fire him. Makes no sense to me. I don't understand the point you're trying to make, Dick. If it's that MLB and Bud and JR love Hawk, I am certain you are right. He's a great ambassador for the White Sox and the Game. He has a long relationship with JR, who happens to have a long relationship with Bud. That everyone wants Hawk to continue is beyond dispute. If the point you are making is that Selig was more concerned about the feelings of his umpires than of MLB looking bad as a result of poor umpiring, than you'll have a very difficult time convincing me of that. But hey, I wasn't there...I don't know.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Hawk is an employee of CSN/WGN, not of the White Sox, not of MLB. Selig cannot fire him. It would be like saying he can fire you from your job. If Selig was so pissed about this and had some authority, Hawk would at least get the weekend suspension BS. He and JR don't want him ripping umpires, and its not because Hawk is necessarily wrong. I'm not sure as to the formalities of his employment. That was the reason I originally stated "If" Hawk is an employee of the White Sox. I was assuming he was, as he travels with the team, has access to team facilities beyond the scope of his employment needs, etc. But you may be right; he may technically just be a member of CSN/WGN/WCIU and/or some kind of an "independent contractor" or something. That being the case, I am sure MLB and its Commissioner have other legal rights. They can also clearly exert certain pressures on JR to end Hawk's employment, and I am also sure they do have certain rights when it comes to their broadcasts. My guess is that simply by having purchased the contract to broadcast the White Sox games, CSN/WGN/WCIU cannot simply make any representations as to the product on the field without being liable for any repercussions. Whatever the options MLB and the Commissioner have, whether they be legal or otherwise, I am sure they can achieve the desired result.

We've won 13 out of our last 16 games. Guess who started all three of those that we lost?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) What's the worst Ryan could have done? He was hitting .175 and had one lucky hit today. I thought he should have left Ohman in. Worst comes to worst, you walk Ryan and you pitch to Ichiro. Jones looked like he was breathing a bit hard out there today, I was surprised he was still bringing it. Apparently he had food poisoning. It's all just easy to criticize in hindsight. I'm not going to complain about the way this Club is being managed right now.

We've now won 13 of the last 15 and turned our season around. We're seeing some great hitting, some good work out of the bullpen, and I for one, am really starting to form an attachment to a few of these fellas. Gordo looks like the player we all thought he could be, De Aza is playing like the leadoff hitter we never thought we'd get, AJ is putting up power numbers the likes of which he has never done before, and Alex and Adam have returned to being productive players again. Just wanted to express my appreciation to the boys for making baseball fun again. Hear, hear!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) Yeah, it's not as much that Quintana would be the 5th starter, but you're putting a lot of faith in Axelrod to step up when one of the starters hits the DL/hits the wall Fair enough...but every team is putting a lot of faith in some random guy in AAA if that happens.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) Bad day for the bullpen. Guys have been overused. The only reason the M's were able to even threaten in certain innings was because we kept giving them leadoff walks. I really didn't like how Robin handled the bullpen today, especially in that 6th inning. He used 3 guys to get like 4 batters out. Truth is, he should have never used Stewart. Hopefully, Danks will be back for the Toronto series and Quintana won't have to start a game. I agree...but Nate Jones was sick, so he didn't want to burn Crain or let Ohman pitch to the righty. In the 6th, it really didn't look like this would be a 12 inning game, either.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) We're not going to challenge for this division if Quintana is the 5th starter. What? THIS division? A lot of divisions have been won with worse pitchers in the 5-slot.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:18 PM) He can shake him off... Not many rookies are going to do that to a veteran catcher

We need Hudson to somehow get on

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:13 PM) Game is still not over...if we can get winning run up to the plate, I feel good about our chances I'm using reverse psychology

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) It's Sale and Stewart/Santiago tomorrow. Reed, Crain and Jones shouldn't be pitching tomorrow. And Sale is coming off a high pitch outing himself, but at least on 5 days. Need him to be efficient.

It was a great run boys...let's start another one tomorrow

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) They really gotta cut this 2nd inning for the closer bulls***. He threw like 8 pitches in the first.

Now that one was a bad pitch

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) Ugh, another bad pitch. Should have gone with the change-up. Fathom, sometimes they just gets hits

De Aza being so deep really puts pressure on Viciedo and Ramirez on those plays
