  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) We just bought the wife a used CRV from 08 with only 28k miles on it. We got pretty much a full warranty, plus it is loaded. The new one of the same thing would have cost about 10k more. Yeah, this is a great example of buying a slightly used car versus the newest model year. With the quality and technology in cars these days, it really isn't as worrisome to buy a used car as it might have been in the past. I must say, it's always kind of fun for me to be in the market for a car. I enjoy doing all the research, from comparing the models, reading the expert reviews as well as the consumer reviews, searching for the best combination of options, etc. I admit, I did not enjoy this process when I first began looking for cars before the internet really exploded, but I do enjoy it now. I still really love Audi as a manufacturer, but my conscience is tugging at me a bit to consider these new electric vehicles, thanks to Sqwert recommending I watch that damned Collapse documentary
  2. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I would search around for a great deal on a used car, I found a completely spotless, fully loaded '08 Grand Prix (leather, ground effects, etc.) for a little over $12,000. The sticker cost of the vehicle from earlier that year was about $31,000. 2 years later, the car has had no issues and I have loved it. I purchased it from the Community group which looked like they priced all of their used cars to sell quick. This is what I did with my last car. Paid about $20k for it with 34k miles on it and everything very close to mint condition. Have owned it for 4.5 years now and it is worth about $10-12k still, so I am really happy with that. Unfortunately there is this stupid timing belt issue.
  3. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) I have never owned a new car in my life until three weeks ago and I never thought I would either for the depreciation issues noted. But for the base model Prius II I was looking at, there was only a $2K difference between a new 2010 and a 2008 or 2009. That fact, along with the fact that the financing was better on the new car, the fuel efficiency was slightly better, and it came with two years of maintenance and roadside assistance convinced me that new was the way to go this time around. I absolutely am loving the new vehicle — especially the 500+ miles I'm getting out of a tank of gas. I've owned one new car, a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Wrangler Saharas, in the past at least, and at the time I was in the market (1998), had always held their value well. I wanted a black one with a black hardtop, which seemed to be a difficult combination to find. There just wasn't much of an advantage to buying a used model since I would only be saving a few thousand dollars and would be inheriting an off-road capable vehicle without really knowing how it had been treated. So I went new that time. There are definitely some instances where one has to consider a new vehicle. But it appears that most of the time, unless spending the extra money is just simply not a concern for you, going used is the way to go.
  4. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) Philly for sure. Vicks been incredible this season, but the Bears defense has actually had good success against athletic QBs this season. It's the pocket QBs that kill them for whatever reason. Plus, Sean Payton is just really good at his job. I think the Saints' defense is far and away better than Philly's at this point too.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) F*** it. Let's make history. Go Seahawks! Congrats buddy.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) Wouldn't include Thompson and Cash. Especially since we'd be giving up a second round pick as well to sign Soriano.
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Let's say you can find a team (Oakland?) that will take Teahen's $4.75M in 2011 in full if you throw in Thompson and are willing to eat at least $3.5M of the $5.5M owed to him in 2012. Assuming you could then afford to sign Soriano to something like 2/$18M ($6M in 2011, $10M in 2012, $10M TO w/ $2M buyout in 2013) would you do it? Because I would. Nope. I don't want to trade Thompson in a package for a reliever, even if it is Soriano, especially since we are eating money already.
  8. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) No-brainer. Used is the way to go. Let someone else pay for the depreciation. And thanks to the internet, doing research on the history of a used car using VIN# is better than ever before, making the process safer. This way you can enjoy an awesome car like the S5 which you probably wouldn't be able to afford if new. Even though your monthly payment may be high, your total cost of ownership at the end might not be too bad depending on how much you drive. You could sell the car in a couple years and pay off the loan (and maybe then some). Yeah, it seems like unless there is some huge improvement in the new model year as opposed to a model that is 1-3 years old, that I should just go for the used car. Have to do some research on the warranties though to see what the cost of ownership will be in that 4th and 5th year in a used vehicle versus a new one.
  9. I'm actually fine with things. Would have preferred to win, but this is ok. It will humble that offense a bit and hopefully make them focus hard over the break. As long as we didn't suffer any significant injuries, this shouldn't hurt us too badly, other than of course alllowing GB in the playoffs.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) Martz's playcalling was garbage today. I thought he already learned that lesson? What he can and can't do? The O-line didn't just suddenly start being better. All of that was an illusion and I thought it was obvious even to casual fans. Yeah, hard to argue with that. He finally figured it out on that last drive. And once we started beating their blitz, they backed out of it. The only thing I can think of is he didn't want to show too much on film of how we would adjust to the blitz, until he absolutely had to to keep Jay alive.
  11. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) If Cutler plays like today the Bears are not getting by the Saints. johnny knox should be the 5th option. He really seems scared of the weather. Nice beard though. Well, better this happen now than in two weeks.
  12. Yay Houston. Now I need St Louis to bring home a big parlay score.
  13. Oh well. Good effort guys. I have a feeling we might meet this team again in the NFC Championship game.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) To win the game and put the Packers down? Yes With the way this game is going, I wouldn't want to be tied with them fighting for their playoff lives...I don't want them to resort to something dirty.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) If this offense can get a TD on this drive it's still very much a game. But it's not looking good. Even then, do you want to be in that situation? I'd go for two if we scored a td somehow.
  16. I want to see someone other than Jay Cutler under center now.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) I'm not even mad at Cutler and the line. Martz is a freaking idiot. He is, but Jay is just afraid now.
  18. Ok, get Jay out. He isn't playing anymore, he's just trying to stay alive.
  19. Ok, if I am Lovie, I say go for the ball on defense. Try to force a turnover and take plenty of risks. If you get a turnover, great, if you give up a big play, and an eventual td, fine. And if that happens, you yank the starters.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) From what I've seen in 2 games this year, the only major difference between either team is the secondary. Their offense is better than ours, but our ST is far superior to theirs. We have a tendancy to self-destruct, but they are bad in close games. Pretty close overall.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) Addendum: Thank God Trent Edwards is still in the league and playing QB for Jacksonville. It's amazing though how Jacksonville has been able to run the ball with absolutely no passing game whatsoever. The Jags have 193 yards rushing with only 44 yards passing. That just doesn't happen in the NFL.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) If the Bears are clearly better than the Packers, don't you guys want them in the playoffs? I don't think anyone believes that.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) Might as well pull the starters now. We've come this far...I wouldn't pull them down a td.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) What a HORRIFIC offensive series. Two in a row.
