Yet another "racial" confrontation with police, this time in
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I'm not saying you're 100% sure you're going to use it, but that you don't pull it out around people as a threat if the situation doesn't warrant shooting them. I think it was warranted. Maybe extreme for the circumstance, but i'm not going to second guess the guy in the heat of the moment sitting at my computer screen watching a video from afar. Cops have every right to defend themselves from people. People shouldn't be stupid towards cops and they won't get shot. Plain and simple. I dunno why we as society act all surprised in these situations. You don't the right to be free from response when you go up and threaten someone, cop or no cop.

Yet another "racial" confrontation with police, this time in
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) Regardless of what they were really trying to do, the argument in her civil case will be that they were her friends and trying to protect her from a "out of control" policeman they felt might harm their 15 year old friend who just happened to be wearing a bikini...whether people like it or not, the image of a guy weighing twice as much using that much force and twisting her arm and throwing her back down to the ground isn't going to win him much sympathy. The other thing here is the officers responding had no way of identifying what teens exactly were causing the problem...because by all reports the majority had been invited, and the problem started where other kids came over the fence when they heard the confrontation with the white woman and the girl who organized the event. This wasn't a case of an "all white" party where a bunch of black teens just came and took it over...the majority of the kids who were there at the b-day party were invited...and it seems the main problem arose when the parents took exception to the behavior of some of the kids. Not only did the police officer observe bad judgment, but surely there was a more polite way to address the partygoers than the tact she took which is to attack them directly with verbal taunts/insults. Adults should know better than to start a fight or confrontation with kids. She should have gotten someone in a more official capacity involved before she took matters into her own hands. Based on his own explanation, he showed up and a bunch of people ran away. I think it's fair to assume people that run away are doing something bad and don't want to get caught. Again, if people act civilly to cops, this s*** doesn't happen. When you act stupidly, stupid things happen to you.

Also, at the end he's calmly explaining why he did what he did with the two black kids on the sidewalk. The cops showed up and they all scattered. They became part of the "mob" that they were trying to break up/stop. Of course they're going to assume you did something wrong when you try to run away. That's just stupid.

Yet another "racial" confrontation with police, this time in
Just got around to viewing this. IMO the cop was overzealous in a typical napoleon-complex, authoritative dick cop way. People were running from him (has to be the explanation for the barrel role and the subsequent orders to the black kids on the sidewalk). And with the girls he was trying to get them to leave and they wouldn't and then they kept running their mouths. Is that worthy of being forced to the ground? No, but he's a dick cop who let his emotions get to him. He's to blame for riling things up, but when people respond stupidly to cops, they should expect potentially stupid/extreme reactions. The cop should absolutely be fined and suspended but termination seems extreme. As does any civil suit. That was a bunch of nothing and she didn't appear to be hurt at all. Regarding the gun situation, those kids were coming up from behind him quickly and screaming. All he was doing was trying to cuff someone who wasn't following his orders and then a crowd starts to gather and scream around him. He was outnumbered, regardless of the cops in the area, and I have zero qualms with him pulling out his gun. You'll notice he never aimed it at them but always kept it down to the ground. Balta, i'm not aware of any police protocol that requires a cop to be 100% certain he's going to use his weapon before he can take it out of the holster. It shouldn't be used as a show of force in most situations, but you can clearly tell the guy felt in danger because of his body language. He has that right. If you're stupid enough to charge a cop, you're stupid enough to get shot. Why don't people think that's a logical way for both parties to act? This is, once again, the media trying to capitalize on a white cop/black victim story when in reality it's a cop going a bit too far with a non-compliant person.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:32 AM) Now the Warriors can't even claim to have a defensive scheme that worked, however it's spun. They couldn't speed up the game with their smaller lineup because Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov was pounding them for points inside and Tristan Thompson was grabbing 14 rebounds. And the Warriors failed to turn the game into a shooting contest. Klay Thompson went off for 34 points, but his 14 field goals represented 42 percent of the team's total. Stephen Curry was off for most of the night, shooting 5 for 23 from the field and 2 for 15 from 3-point range. The Warriors' ball movement disappeared. They average more than 300 passes per game; they had slightly more than 200 passes in Game 2, even with the extra five minutes. In eight quarters of regulation the Warriors have held the lead for only 26 minutes and 51 seconds. And this was at Oracle Arena, where the Warriors were better than anyone else in any other building this season. www.espn.com/adande Curry had 17 points against all other defenders in half court defensive sets. 0 against Dellavedova. 0/5 from 3 (0/8) overall with 4 turnovers against MD. 4/10 (2/7) from 3 and 1 turnover for the rest, 17 points. At one point in the 3rd Dellavedova went to the bench and Curry immediately hit a three. It was all during a little montage with JVG and Jackson reviewing all of Dellavedova's good defensive plays. As soon as the 3 went in, the camera panned to Dellavedova who screamed something like "that's because i'm on the bench!" Crazy opinion alert: maybe the Warriors and the West generally were significantly overrated this year? If GS was such a great team, how is Lebron + scrubs keeping this close? Other than rebounding, the Cavs are pretty bad at everything else.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) Don't confuse the Faceless Men with the Sons of the Harpy, way different groups (Faceless Man is what Arya is trying to become), just an fyi. And why wouldn't one sneak attack be a bad choice? See if one can get by while people's attention are on the pit? If that failed, which took an epic spear throw by Jorah, then they bum rush them which is what they did. They easily would've had Dany if it wasn't for Drogon. Ha, oops, my bad. Obviously meant Sons of the Harpy. Too many names to keep track of I guess. Sneaking around was fine to start, i'm talking about when they had Dany and crew surrounded down on the arena floor. They had them covered from every angle and outnumbered them 4-1 or 5-1 it seemed. A major rush and there's no way of defending that. But instead a couple of randoms decided to go at it solo and were killed off. Obviously it was done to build some suspense before Drogon appears, but still, pretty dumb decision on their part.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) Yea, I thought Ramsay would have a more sinister attack in mind than setting some tents and horses on fire The gladiator scene was awesome though. Except the part where everyone was in peril and Dany flies away while Mermont, Daario, and Tyrion just watch. The attackers just decided to stop trying I guess Even worse, before Drogon shows up the Faceless Men decided to attack solo, despite having the group surrounded and outnumbered. Clearly the best strategy. They also must have run out of CGI money. Holy crap was that whole scene terrible looking. I mean the stadium/crowd was fine, and some of drogon on his own was fine, but her flying was so bad. 80's tech bad.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) Yes there was a basketball reason. I posted about the problem with Thibs for years on this board. This wasnt "a few months ago", years ago I said that Thibs was a taskmaster coach and coaches like that rarely win the entire thing. Here are the posts: Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:19 PM I like Thibs, but I sometimes wonder if hes more Doug Collins than Phil Jackson. post Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:58 PM Doug Collins may have won 1, but I dont know if he would have won 6. Thats the point, task master coaches wear on guys and while they often can get more out of less to begin with, they can also eventually wear on people and that sometimes results in getting less out of more. And my statement was "sometimes I wonder" not exactly extremely critical. ----------------------------------- The bottom line is not once in Thibs career did he overachieve in the playoffs. Blame injuries, blame whatever, but after 5 years of underachieving when it counted, something had to give. The Cleveland series was a repeat of the first Bulls-Heat series. Bulls win game 1, the other team makes adjustments, the Bulls dont. They overachieved when they beat the Nets. I think you gotta give him that. They won without Rose, without Deng and with Noah suffering badly.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) You are creating a premise that is how these laws were designed to work. You are stating this is why the laws were proposed. We all know that laws do not prevent a crime. If we used that criteria we wouldn't have any laws. Again, I ask. Name one law in the history of laws that prevented crimes from being committed? The reason we have laws is to determine the punishment. In the end, that is all they do. But this is wrong. Does a law prevent ALL crime of a certain type? No. But it's moronic to say that laws don't prevent ANY crime of a certain type. People curb their behavior because X action is illegal and because of the potential for punishment. This is a bedrock to our system. We don't pass laws just to create a punishment. That's obviously a part of it, but we use laws to, in theory, curb behavior. We don't pass DUI laws just to have a penalty in place. We pass the law in hopes that people won't drive drunk and kill people. No law is ever passed on the theory that "well, i don't care if people do X, but if they do, I want a punishment in place." It's always "I want to stop X, so we're going to implement law Y with punishment Z." It's ALWAYS about preventing/changing people's behavior.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) That didnt bother me as much as Jon Snow and his friend watching thousands of walkers pour over the cliff and land, and get up. and THEN deciding to run. But the Walker fight with Snow was just badass, almost as badass as the Walker going out on the dock and raising the dead while he stared at Snow paddling away What got me was a combination of the two: thousands of white walkers running towards them, they finally run, arrive at the dock, hop on the boat and then NO ONE PADDLES AWAY. Still, amazing episode. Maybe the best in the series.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) 25 year old kid who grew up on my street was shot and killed in a mugging gone wrong in Lakeview after drinking at Wrigleyville bars. I will not go to those bars. If you are young and drunk in those areas (Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Boystown) around close you are nothing more than a target. I am at work with one of the kid's best friend's and he doesn't even know yet. I don't have the heart to tell him. http://www.cwbchicago.com/2015/05/neighbor...ot-dead-on.html Over a f***ing phone.

If Hoiberg is going to be a yes man, I hope the Bulls higher ups have GarPax on notice that if the results are the same, it isn't the coach. Yeah, it's relying on a glass figurine as your superstar.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) Again, how do you judge if a law is making a difference? It's a damn simple question that you keep avoiding. The only thing you say is well criminals broke the law. Well again, criminals break laws all the time, it doesn't mean the laws aren't working. You're only point is criminals break laws. So unless you can finally explain how you come to the conclusion that the laws aren't working, I'll assume you don't want to answer the question. I gave you the answer: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3168610 You're ignoring the reason these laws are being proposed (prevention of mass shootings) and that we're not talking about all laws generally, we're talking about specific laws that are add-on's to other existing laws.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) Meh. What Reinsdorf said is true though. People want transparency from owners but then don't like it when they get it. Of course the decision wasn't made when they said it was. What are they supposed to say? We were going to fire Tom no matter what? This has been in motion for the last year and a half. Anyone that was blindsided by this hasn't been paying attention. I'm not saying you, Dick, I just mean in general. Lots of stunned people yesterday and it doesn't really make any sense. Everyone is taking the statements as going after Thibs, but to me it all just screamed justification. All season long people have been reporting that Thibs would be fired regardless of how many games they won and that doing so would be a terribly dumb move. I think the Bulls had to give a reason for the firing, otherwise they wouldn't get their say in for the record. I don't see any personal digs, I see a lot of truth - Thibs is a stubborn SOB and when management and the players want something else, and the coach refuses to budge, that's not a "team" mentality/culture. Throw in a lot of the little disagreements and fights that a lot of employees/employers have, and that was enough for him to get fired.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) He went on a very public and loud tirade against the front office, supposedly on Thibs behalf if you believe the Bulls front office, during a broadcast earlier this year. Yeah I remember that. He did it on a national broadcast and also on the Zach Lowe podcast. It was clear trumpeting on Thibs' behalf. Reinsdorf was pissed about it too and that probably sealed his fate. Again though, add in the fact that the Bulls have only progressed so far, and i'm not sure why anyone is that upset about it. He was a great regular season coach and a great defensive coach. And he should get credit for the development of late 1st round talent. But he took them from point C to B and we need someone that goes from B to A. If the players were getting tired of him, which several apparently said so in their exit interviews, then a change has to be made.
