The problem is that it's the 4 year old picking fights with the 10 year old. And when the 10 year old goes "too far" you punish him, not for responding, but for going "too far" with it. And this despite the fact that the 4 year old is the real s***head and started the whole thing. I don't recall some of the past conflicts, but does Israel ever start/provoke the conflict? Seems to me these last few conflicts we've had post-2000 were all responses to some unprovoked attack/kidnapping.

Terrorist group/governing body A bombs country B. Country B says "oh no you didn't" and defends itself. Country B is in the wrong. How do smart people come to this moronic conclusion?

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) I have nothing against Paul George, it's just not THAT big of a deal. If he had torn his ACL, there wouldn't be nearly so much fretting about it despite it being a more serious injury. They're acting like the dude died. This happens to soccer players all the time. PG will be fine and unless they want to go Rose level with the recovery, he should be back before the season ends. And yes, it will be a bad thing if this kills international basketball. It drives interest around the world and a game like last night was a lot of fun to watch. Of the four major sports, basketball is by far the least likely for players to get season ending injuries. That's why Paul George is the first guy to have an injury of real note while playing for Team USA I think the reaction is based on the gruesome nature of the injury. That and a broken leg is really rare whereas knee tears happen every year.

This is, by the way, why guys like Anthony take that guaranteed 5th year.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) Career Pssh, no. It's a broken leg. Fractures recover in 4-5 months, then the question is what's the rehab time. I'm sure he'll take the year to be safe.

Yeah that's the tibia. May be better than the ankle for a bball player actually.

Wonder how this affects USA basketball going forward. More guys (or franchises) opt out for fear of injury?

Really unfortunate. And such a freak thing. An inch shorter or longer on that landing and he's probably fine.

Golfing Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Anyone see the Real Sports piece on golf on HBO? It was pretty interesting. Courses are closing, kids are playing less and less. The run they had with Tiger is gone. The common complaints were too expensive, takes too long and too hard to play. They talked to the CEO of Taylormade and they are trying a lot of new things, like foot golf, which seemed horrible to me, like kicking a soccer ball until you get it in a huge hole, or the one I found interesting, 15 inch wide cups. Bryant Gumbel played with the guy and said it was fun, but didn't consider it real golf. The CEO said that goal was to make it fun. To get people on the course. I guess it shaves about an hour off a round. Jack Nicklaus thought any ideas to get people on the courses were great. Curtis Strange was the opposite. I'm torn. More people means more golfers which means prices don't need to keep creeping up. But more people means longer rounds.

Parker re-ups for 3 years, 43 million. With Pop in the fold for another 5 years, I guess there's no rebuild in San Antonio.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) I know I've said it before but I don't think I've ever seen "good" kyrie. I've seen him get hot from 3 and then ice cold in the same game. I've never really known how his reputation got so good to be a 2 time all-star even in the East. Obviously if Irving is your #3 best player you are in damn good shape but more just referencing how his reputation has never seemed to match for me. Started with college and he's been hyped up ever since.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) You know what...all I know is this. When it comes to work, Derrick puts it in. He's never complained verbally once and his teammates have always had his back. I can't wait till he's back wearing a Bulls uniform and leaving it all on the court and am cheering hard for him and the boys to put up a championship banner this year and that it is the first of many. He might be an idiot who lets his brother control him but he's a good kid. Not one coach that has ever been around him has had anything but glowing things to say about the kid and that says a lot!!! Totally agree. I'm excited for the season to start. I actually just got an email from a season ticket agent. Still debating if I want to drop $3500 on two 300 level seats.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Cowley's article was s***. He was one (apparently) original quotation from Rose about being surprised about a rift being there. Then he speculates about whether something went on during the Melo recruitment by repeating rumors, speculates about BJ Armstrong, and speculates about whether Rose has done something about his people. Then he quotes Derrick out of context saying he's going for a new start. He quotes anonymous sources. He doesn't just speculate. I guess if you want you can claim he made them up. That's certainly what JR has done, but again we know JR is also partially bulls***ting since Rose admitted to having knowledge of a rift despite not being personally involved. And again looking at the situation as a whole and reading all of the various reports that have come out over the years, I think everything in Cowley's article, while perhaps speculation, is still 100% reasonable and believable.

2014-2015 NBA thread
To me everything he said is 100% believable though. I'm sure the Bulls ARE tired of Reggie, but have always maintained a great relationship with Rose. I'm sure they were, privately, pissed about Rose not wanting to help recruit Anthony. And i'm sure there is a beef between Paxson and BJ since Paxson basically removed BJ from the organization. Cowley is Marriotti 2.0, but I don't think there's really much of an issue with his article here.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) I have a bunch. I am long off the tee usually around 300 with really terrible long irons so I score by wedge play both in the fairway and just around the green. You know, we should have a Soxtalk open for charity one of these years. Pssh. I'm lucky to hit it 240-250. I've never been able to drive the ball long. Luckily i'm pretty good with my 4-6 irons and I have a pretty good short game.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) Is this recent or is this dating back to last season or something? Or is this over the "recruiting" nonsense? Or is this related to him participating in the team USA stuff? I general history of the relationship, with some insight into the Anthony recruitment. If you believe Cowley, Rose basically had no interest in Anthony coming here, but he loved the idea of Gasol coming here. Here's the article: http://www.suntimes.com/28980523-579/derri...orf-reacts.html

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Okay, and how many of the teams in the finals the past decade have tanked? It's not as good of a strategy as you believe. It's not, and it's not a problem that needs to be rectified either. I think this is all overblown nonsense personally.
